Steve IrwinSteve Irwin, who was known for his exploits as the "Crocodile Hunter," has just passed away at the age of 44, due to an accident while filming a new documentary. The accident occurred in Lowe Isles Reef, near Port Douglas, Australia. According to reports, a stingray barb punctured his chest during their shoot, killing him instantly.

Known for his bravado in exploring the animal kingdom and making zoology (crocodiles in particular) popular and Aussie English (specifically "Crikey") fashionable, Steve Irwin has been doing wildlife shows for more than ten years.

Syndication through the Discovery Channel helped to increase his popularity and influence in matters of wildlife. Irwin also took his fame to the big screen, with a comedic movie based on his exploits as the crocodile hunter. He's also been critical of wildlife hunts in Australia, citing them as having a negative impact on tourism, in addition to being bad for the animals.

Irwin is survived by his wife Terri, and their kids Bindi Sue and Bob. Rest in peace, brave hunter. You will be missed.

When the News broke out here in Australia, the nation went silent.. quite incredible that a man can have such status for what he did...

As devastating as the news is, he died doing what he loved. God Bless him and his family.

R.I.P. Steve 'CRIKEY' Irwin.

 » Why?

Man, my family and I always watched his shows and loved the fact that he so in control with animals, we never expected him to go like this. As soon as I heard the news of his death I dint believe it. My brother was on XBOX LIVE and I was barely waking up and my bro told me that some kid told him that Steve Irwin was dead... I didnt believe him till I saw it on the net and on the news. You think someone so great will never die and yet they do and it hurts. Damn, I will miss him and so will the rest of my family.

Steve Irwin had the balls to do what he wanted and died doing it which is one of the most inspiring things in my life. He lives on!

"Crikey"... T_T R.I.P.

Steve was stung by the stingray barb in the heart, by a 2.5m wide stingray then tried to pull it out himself but only made it worst then he died of bloodloss, champion. RIP.

 » wow

I never knew he actually tried to pull out the barb himself...man, what a tough guy to be able to do something like that. I truly hope South Park doesn't end up doing another episode about him...only this time being about his death. That would really be of bad taste. He was so full of energy and always amazed me with how brave he was. I hope his family will be okay.

He didn't just "pass away". He was stabbed in the heart. He didn't die instantly. He was able to pull it out of his chest before he died. Old people with cancer "pass away". Steve Irwin was stabbed in the heart.

 » Damn

This is the wrong person to go especialy like that.
What are the odds of a stingray attaking?
I feel really sorry for his wife and kids, my mom was even crying about it.
She likes him allot, cus he does so much for nature and wildlife. Being kinda nature freak it hits her hard.
Like the rest of the world.

This was the wrong man to die...

» To lazy to sign in but there is some info that is wrong

Steve did get stabbed in the chest by a stingray and it stuck in his heart but he didn't kill him right away. According to Fox News he pulled the stingray out of his chest then passed out. Later in a ambulance he died. Sadly infront of his wife and kids.
