Richard Thornhill went to a local Gamestation to pick up two secondhand copies of Grand Theft Auto for his 12 year old son and his 16 year old daughter. Unfortunately, instead of taking the game home for his son to enjoy, he was forced to take it to a nearby police station after he found four tablets of ecstasy stashed in the game's manual.

Not again! - Image 1

"When I opened the box up, the cling film wrap fell out. I could not believe it," he said. "I have two children and my son plays Xbox all the time. He could easily have opened the box and found them." He later received an apology from the store, but he still feels that stricter checking is in order. "It was a pre-used game, but that should not make a difference," he said. "My wife is beside herself over this because she keeps thinking about what could have happened and so do I."

In response to the matter, Gamestation promptly said, "We have rigorous procedures for accepting pre-owned titles and checking them before they are put back on sale. We have launched an immediate investigation and we will work closely with police to find out what happened in this instance."

Poor GTA is gonna get eyed again for this one, drug-related this time.

sure;y the people who work at Gamestation would have checked the manual, meaning that one of the staff probably hid it in there then forgot which game he hid it in.

Nothing to do with GTA.

Because they care about their kids.

I assume you'd do the same if you had kids, if I'm wrong - You're a horrible person and doesn't deserve kids.

The boy was 12 so he shouldn't of been buying it for him any way as the game is an over 18... I bet it was Jack Thompson who put them in their!

kids go around shooting up schools because they are easily influenced by video games
we are fighting to keep our games as they were intended
and you get arseholes like this buying GTA4 for his 12 year old son.

Drop dead you dumb idiot, if you had a half a brain you'd be dangerous. YOU should be locked up, that would be great. If all the idiots like you were locked up, games would never be edited and everyone would be able to play them.

 » Uhh.

That's wrong that the company didn't bother to check the manual... but... does anyone else think that maybe the parents think too little of their children's intelligence? Honestly... did they expect the scenario to play out like:

Kid, opens game, finds E, smiles and claims "Yay free GTA candy!" and pops em, later found humping the couch and whining for water. ????

On top of that, whats he doing buying an 18 rated game for a 12 year old?

old enough to kill but not to love.. what kind of world is this lol

Yep, people are stupid. How are you supposed to know the cops wouldn't F*CK you hard for having those? Yes boys and girls, cops would do that.

   Re: JoycieC - 2009-04-10
» He cares... just not enough...

Obviously he cares about his kids (Not enough though because he bought the game), in terms of drug use, and if you would rather keep them, than go hand them in somewhere properly and file a complaint then you really aren't fit to be a parent now or later on in life.

   Re: Musev - 2009-04-11
 » ..

@JoycieC

Oh shut up you idiot, you honest believe taking them to the police makes you a good parent? all it does is show how brianwashed you are by the system that you cant deal with minor problems like this one.
whats wrong with just chucking them down the toilet.

and you dont honestly believe that its wrong for 12 year old to play gta?

over protection is as bad as not caring at all. If you cant see that then its you that shouldnt have kids

that includes following all the middle class crap
like "games are bad for kids"

LOL this made my night. if the box was on the shelf then gamestation shouldn't be fully held responsible. if it was behind the counter then oh yeah ppl should be fired.

Again this is a proof that parents still didn't get the whole idea of game ratings. Ectasy is bad, but buying a Mature-rated game for a 12y old kid is ok? ( Not saying this is the same, drugs are of course much worse, but you know what I mean.)

Re: Aces In The Palm - 2009-04-09
» drugs, you say it like there all in one basket

so panadol is bad
tylenol
imodium

i do take illicit drugs
never tried heroin (never want to) and LSD freaked me out (its not for everyone).
but drugs are bad
do you drink?
do you smoke?
both drugs
i smoke marijuana
i pop e's every now and then
even take speed (not ice) if i feel like an all nighter
i get sick of people telling everyone that they're on a higher horse because they get legally f***ed up
alcohol numbs the brain...and is legal....why?
there is no reason at all that marijuana shouldnt be legal other than the difficulty in putting a tax on it. believe it or not, the only reason i can see that it is illegal is because its hard to tax
alcohol ...taxed
cigarettes ....taxed
see a trend
even e's would be safe if it were legal
because pharms would be making them, not backyard chemists.
where would organised drug crime go
only thing they could push is heroin and coke. which makes it easier for law enforcers to get to the real problem drugs and leave the recreational drugs alone.

i cant see why the gov still spends so many enforcing an obsolete law

Ace had some decent points.

Re: Aces In The Palm - 2009-04-09
» why dont you do me a favour

drink 12 beers and go for a drive
then next day smoke 12 bongs and go for a drive
which impeded your ability to drive more
alcohol right?
i rest my case

As for drugs - that's it they are drugs - legal or illegal -
legal drugs side effects are sometimes worse than what you taking them for. We are deviating from the real topic.

I think 12 year olds SHOULD be able to play M rated games only if they are responable enough to understand that its just a game. Theses days, parents are buying there kids M rated games without there understanding of what they may do to kids.

 » idiots..

When will people realize that its not the video game that's the problem for kids, they have been rated, based on maturity and age and you as a parent should see the difference between your child being mature enough to handle it, your child not being mature enough to handle it and if your child is just a plain little psycho who you know is going to go postal at the library after playing a game like Grand Theft Auto..its easy for parents to blame video games because they choose not to accept the responsibility..ITS NOT THE VIDEO GAMES FAULT...its your fault for being a bad parent, not being involved enough in your kids life..i say this as a father of two a 12 year old and an 8 year old..my 12 year old plays all the games I do, and I let him because hes mature enough to handle it, we'll literally see who can kill the most people in the least amount of time, and why do i do this with him? Because my son isn't going to go shoot people or steal cars because he did it Killzone 2 or GTA-IV hes not an idiot, he's mature enough to the point that he knows the difference between game and reality.

As for Jack Thompson..seriously..just die already, your an idiot who is hated by pretty much everyone who isn't a parent of a kid who went psycho somewhere or knows their kid would do it..
