PlayStation 3 rumor blitz: in-game XMB arrival, PSN accomplishments - Image 1

Digital photographs of what appears to be how the in-game XMB will probably work, as well as (gasp!) gamer accomplishments on Incognito Entertainment's Warhawk surfaced over the PlayStation Network @ Home forums yesterday. And though the anonymous tipster did say that the photos were edited, he did point out that the changes were done to conceal the reflection on the screen which undoubtedly revealed his face.

In-game XMB with PSN accomplishments - Image 1He also made sure to capture several angles and zoom levels of the shot, perhaps in an effort to boost the photographs' authenticity. See one of them on the right. The photos show that gamer accomplishments will roll into a player's message box on the Xross Media Bar. It will be completely accessible while playing a game.

The tipper, calling himself sonyguy32, explains that the white cottony artifacts you see on some pictures are actually the clouds in Warhawk, so the XMB will be partially translucent when the in-game mode is activated.

However, speculations as to when the new features will arrive were effectively shot down by long-time media vets. Though people expect the gaming giant to release it this week, media personalities explain that if Sony will make an announcement, it won't be at GDC. They say its because it's a "developer conference" and will have nothing to do about "hardware or firmware."

But because Sony can make the announcement outside of GDC - though coincidentally within the same time GDC is going on - we'll be keeping tabs on this rumor. Head on over to the via link below to view more shots taken and do so while they're still available.

 » 1st, and...

I love these features, but I'm still not so sure on these photos until we get the official word from Sony whether pictures like these are legit or not. I hope that we get in-game xmb. Achievements would always be nice to have right alongside in-game xmb in whatever firmware update it will be included with.

is exactly how I invision in-game XMB & Home accomplishments, but if its fake I really dont care. I already know that Home and in-game XMB are coming VERY soon so I'm at the point that I kind of like these rumor kind of things.

 » idk...

I looked at the other photos, and the tv these pictures are taken from is an old tube tv, and the reflections on the screen looks like they're from in some kid's basement. I really doubt they have any old tube tvs at GDC.

 » its not at GDC

theres not going to be anything like that at GDC sony already said.

 » FAKE FAKE FAKE FAKE

Fake.

If you look in the picture, one of the setting is spelled "Players met", in the real version of the XMB it's formatted "Players Met" with a capital "M".

I know that sounds like a small thing, but it's a huge flaw in the sense of consistancy.

As general rule... if a photo comes from a new user on an obscure forum... it's gonna be fake.

 » Wow.

Busted! I didn't really notice that until you said something. Even though these pics are fake, take heed to this:

PSN Accomplishments were spoken of a long time ago, and were pretty much confirmed too. We already know that's coming.

The in-game XMB was mentioned in a post from a SCEA employee a good while ago on the official PlayStation Blog. Very high chance we'll see that.

 » Agreed...

It could very easily be that he's just taken a photo of a photo-manipulation picture in the image viewer.

 » it looks very real

I shopped it and made it alot better to see what exactly is on sonyguy22's tv. Take a look for yourself. It was the best I could do: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v701/SooperGooman/warhawk.jpg

 » Yes, but again...

It's not that hard, if you're good with Photoshop, to pull something off like that. It may just be a screen shot with a slightly transparent overlay of the menu, for example. The typo does seem like something of a giveaway.

 » FAKE

Most important of all and I'm suprised this hasn't been spotted by you guys already there is NO PSN Icon.

   Re: Eclipze_ - 2008-02-21
 » theres not

going to be a PSN icon in in-game XMB I think..

   Re: Mentality - 2008-02-21
 » I think

All the links would be there, but selecting settings in certain areas would initiate a "you cannot access this feature in game, do you want to exit?" Like in chat when you try to access certain features on the XMB. If not putting certain links in because they won't be used why would the GAME Icon be there? you wouldnt need to check or delete saves in game, and by the placement of the icons there and positions it looks like the whole load of icons is there. InGame XMB is coming, but that image is faked, I'm sure of it. If it was from someone inside sony the pictures would be significantly better, and it can't be someone on the outside, I mean come on how would they get they're hands on it?

   Re: Eclipze_ - 2008-02-21
 » In resistance

when you pull up the friends menu it dosnt have the chat option up at all, theres no point in putting somthing that wont even be of use (I dont think you'll be looking at the PSstore or account management while in a game --_--). And for the GAME Icon being there I think you'll be able to quit your game from there and probably reassign your controllers and stuff, maybe even switch games while in one already. Ah but I already know the pic is fake though, but I think it will be pretty similar to how its shown right there.

 » Also...

... I'd be very surprised if Sony stuck the Accomplishments under 'Friends'. To me, it would make more sense under 'PlayStation Network'.

 » Hello

When the guy was questioned, he made one last post reading "why would I leak photos at work =P. Enough posts for me today. Goodbye" and made a blunt exit, he was a new member on the forum and only had three posts, he aint made any new posts in the forum since. Hes a fake and the pictures are fake.

Even if he was from sony, how would he be playing warhawk with the new patch and be using the new firmware? Why are ALL the pictures the same but from different angles? shouldnt the accomplishment icon have dissapeared after about 5 or 6 seconds? its takes at least a minute to take the ammount of pictures he took and it wouldnt have stayed on that long, not only that but why is the accomplishment showing in the so called ingame xmb when it would show in the game and dissappear when you access the ingame xmb, even if id did react the way shown it wouldnt show up for that long.

 » Hot damn.

Can't argue with those points.
