Final Fantasy 7: Advent Children - Aeris - Image 1

Hopefuls have yet another statement to cling on to so that their dreams of a Final Fantasy VII remake might happen. While I myself have given up on that pipe dream long ago, I've always followed the "if it'll happen, it'll happen" school of philosophy. But report on this I shall, nonetheless.

Veteran Square Enix character designer Tetsuya Nomura has revealed to Dengeki magazine that they're prepping quite a doozy of an announcement right alongside the release of the Final Fantasy 7: Advent Children Complete movie.

According to translations, FF7ACC is pretty much done now and they're just about to announce the Japanese release date for that movie. And when they eventually do, they'll be dropping one Jenova Mother of a bomb. All sources point towards the upcoming DKΣ3713 event, or maybe even sooner, during E3.

French webbie Final Fantasy World has translated the original Japanese into French with the following quote [English translation follows]:

Au final, le film devrait gagner en longueur et en densité. La date de sortie japonaise a été décidée, mais il va falloir attendre (sûrement jusqu'à l'événement DKΣ3713, début août) pour qu'elle soit dévoilée. Nomura note également qu'une grosse annonce devrait accompagner celle de la date de sortie, sans donner plus de détails.

The Japanese release date [for FF7ACC] has been decided, but it will have to wait (probably to the event DKΣ3713 in early August) so that it is unveiled. Nomura also notes that a big announcement that should accompany the release date, without giving more details.

As you can see, not much is known about what they'll be revealing, not even whether or not it's FF7-related to begin with - at this point it could be anything. FF7 remake aside, it could be of or relating to the FF7 canon. That includes Dirge of Cerberus, Crisis Core, Before Crisis, and Advent Children. Maybe a new game altogether? Heck, it might even be about Dissidia: Final Fantasy.

For those who are keeping tabs: yes, my 100% bunk character roster wish list for Dissidia still remains just that - 100% bunk. LOL. Fat chance of that happening. Poo.

FFVII is great. some of the spinoffs are good too (ex. crisis core). but really, i agree. STOP MAKING FREAKING FF7 MOVIE/GAMES!

enough of FF7, it's like they're making it impossible to have peace in that world. deepground probably already killed half the worlds population trying to bring out omega.

 » You CAN'T crush a large fanbase.

You CAN enjoy another good game. Be sensible, there's no profit or fun in your ways of things mister remake hater.

   Re: trigger - 2008-07-11
 » well.

if you don't want a remake and if they actually do release one, then just don't buy it. simple as that.

if you're scared that a remake will ruin your experience of the original, then don't play the remake and continue living a remake-less life. geez. that way you get to live peacefully without the firsthand knowledge of how possibly bad the remake could be. yeah, your friends might talk about how bad (or good) it is, but like i said, not playing the remake allows you to stay inside your own sanctuary of the original experience.

meanwhile, those who have been clamoring for a remake will eventually buy it. who knows. they may or may not like it. if they don't like it, then that's their problem. you can give them the whole I TOLD YOU SO speech. but if they enjoyed it, then good for them, right?

they in turn might give you the whole I TOLD YOU SO speech too (i could so picture it now "haha i told you a remake would be a good idea!"), but at that point, will it matter? you'll still be faced with the choice. "this friend of mine says the remake is good. maybe i'll consider it. maybe not."

in the end, you'll still be making the choice of whether to get the remake (IF a remake will ever be released) or not.

"FFVII is great. some of the spinoffs are good too (ex. crisis core). but really, i agree. STOP MAKING FREAKING FF7 MOVIE/GAMES!"

if you said this prior to the release of crisis core and square enix actually listened to you, then the whole world will be robbed off of another good game. what's to say that the next spinoff (IF EVER there will be one) will be bad? what if it's just as equally good as crisis core? maybe even better?

yeah i understand that continuing a franchise tends to drop the ball - and there's always that risk. i for one like the idea of "quitting while you're ahead." it does make sense. but what if they actually make it work?

see, if people quit while they're ahead, we'll only ever see one Rocky movie. we'll only see one GTA game. one harry potter book. just the pilot episode of battlestar galactica and only the pilot episode. and to reiterate what i said earlier, if square enix quit ff7 after the ps1 game, we would have NO CRISIS CORE TODAY.

from a financial standpoint, based on japanese hardware sales (which got a substantial spike after the release of crisis core).... HAVING NO CRISIS CORE WOULD MEAN LESS PSP SALES.

and having less psp sales? what will that lead to? other third party devs not wanting to develop for the PSP anymore? and if no one wants to develop for the PSP anymore, what would happen hmmm? no more games? price cuts? a shortened lifespan of the PSP?

it may sound like an extreme argument based on a hypothetical non-release of crisis core, but really. sometimes there are butterfly effects.

all because someone said he wanted the remakes and spinoffs to stop.

mind job ain't it?

What was this article about? I am terribly confused. This doesn't relate at all with a FFVII remake, or am I missing something?

well, the title never said anything about a remake, just BIG FF7 ANNOUNCEMENT SOON
as to what this article was about, it was about a big announcement that is to accompany the release of AC complete

FFS why can't they just let the 7 monika die now?

They made a good game, Square seems adamant that they cannot make another game as good as 7. And whilst true that's no excuse to continue cranking out story sequels to their best game.

Idea: Make a game better than 7. Afresh.

And I love FF7 too. I bought a PSP and jock off memory card *just* so I could play it (didn't want PS2, didn't want to play on my PC natively or via emulator). I haven't felt the need to play much else since.

 » meh.

FF7 should just stay where it was. The story was done. Now, it's just a bunch of spin-offs and movies telling us stuff that they pulled out of their asses for fanservice. It's great that so many people love FF7, but wow, SE needs to focus on their OTHER games and franchises before they start thinking about remakes and all of that. I'd rather have FF13 than a 7 remake.

   by Noobicious - 2008-07-11
 » well..

I'm sure people (including me) who say NO FF7 REMAKE will still buy the game if they ever do remake it. I think it's unnecessary, because people can play the original. I know people who won't play the original because they think the graphics sucks and don't realize it's the story that makes it so amazing, and plus those were the best graphics ever back in the day.
And also, all these FF7 games are making me think that their world will never know any peace and the characters will always be fighting. Who knows, maybe 500 years later Red XIII was actually running up that cliff to confront someone, but they just showed a ruined Midgar first.

With any Final Fantasy news as long as the word "Multi-platform" is nowhere in the article. I keep having a terrible feeling about Final Fantasy 7 remakes, especially with the DS getting remakes of old Final Fantasy games for the DS/GBA. Seriously, if the DS got a remake of 7 I'd flip *****.

I still hope that the Final Fantasy series other than XI goes nowhere near the 360.

 » hmmm yeah

final fantasy 7 remake should not be made do to the fact its allready BEN made back in the late 90's.. makes no sense and a waste of time, effort and money that they could be using to develope a NEW sqeenix ff project or a new project in general.
in my opinion, they havnt failed with any ff so far (all 12 and including the spinoffs as well).
but as far as remakes? na,killing an ALLREADY MADE AWSOME game is wut squeenix DOESN'T need for their reputation as GREAT rpg dev's.
plus, squeenix needs to come up with new fresh idea's for once.... all they do is mix match rpg elements like gameplay, story, hype, ect ect ect... while thats all gravy to a certain point, they need another flavor of ideas to dev a NEW type of game.
thats about it 4 me... oh and just as a side note: if they DO make a ff7 remake,i will definently buy it for the fact ima HUGE ff7 fan. just think they shouldnt. :)

 » DAMN'IT

My view on FF7 has changed the last years, at first it was a good game (not special to me but for many people it is) but it sucked compared to FF8, but because FF7 was the first Playstation game (so roughly the first FF that reached a big audience) many people said FF7 was better (why? Good story, bad graphics, good gameplay) while FF8 (good story, good graphics, good gameplay) was better IMO, so why won't they make a FF8 spinoff or a FF9 remake/spinoff, IMO every FF must be equal to the others in the mind of the producer. I am a 'FF8 fan' (not THAT much) but I bought Crisis Core and I loved it. Why would a FF7-fan refuse to buy a (good) FF9 spinoff? Please square-enix say bye, bye to FF7 and move on!
QUIT PRODUCING THOSE FF7 GAMES, FF7 ISN'T BETTER THAN THE OTHERS! period.

 » FFVII Remake

If they do remake FFVII I hope they make it exactly the same but with improved graphics and things in more appropriate proportions such as the world map and character size. Great voice acting would be a plus as well. FFVII was perfect as a Playstation 1 game and can be just as perfect as a Playstation 3 game if the gameplay and interface is the same as the original but with possible analog and rumble support. I hope they do a remake before I die.

ff7 has been done to death. they need to remake ff6 in a BIG way, instead of just porting it to GBA.

» ff7 was my fav game ever but...

I dont need a remake. I'm not saying a remake would be bad, just that I have completed FF7 sooo many times that I really don't see much point in playing it again in better graphics. Yes it would be a great game, especially for people who never played the original, but I'd prefer to see something I haven't seen before, maybe getting to play through the game as a different character such as the turks or maybe playing as sephiroth when he was young.
