PSP Phat? Who cares?! That's 15 hours of gaming you see before you! - Image 1

PSP battery pack woes, begone! Given that you have around US$ 100 lying around to buy this baby off the shelves, that is. From the Blue Raven accessory labs, we have the PSP 15hr Extended Battery. Just as the name of the product implies, it promises and allows gamers (and to quote the press release) "to enjoy playing "on the go" with up to 15 hours of play time between charges."

At first glance, my impression of the third-party accessory seems a bit bulky. It'll make your PSP look, well, phat (in the DS-phat sense). But is this really going to matter? At the end of the day, it's up to the PSP owner if he or she will be willing to compromise phatness with extended game-ness. It's your choice, really. But for what it's worth, here are more details and pics:
  • up to 7 times the battery life of a standard PSP battery
  • mounts directly on the PSP game player seamlessly
  • supports the standard PSP charger and fully charge in as little as 5 hours
  • utilizes Lithium-Polymer technology
  • rated at 4500 mAh capacity

Yea...i remember those batterys they tend to explode and leak alot more than the other batterys...like that one 3rd party battery that f**ked up the psp on here

i dont mind it being huge, but in general i stay back from 3rd part batteries!

i cant wait to play 15 hours of games on my new brick. my wrists will *****!ng break just holding that thing.... just buy an upgraded regular size battery pack, or better yet buy 2 of them... its the same thing. get a car charger and a wall charger... i mean is this huge battery even feasible... replace all that battery space with an 40 gig Ipod hard drive, then i will tote that thing around.

I bet they will bring Car battery for the psp T_T

Bigger battery will suk even more...

Why dont make tiny battery to last that long huh ?

bunch of smart @sses

   Re: ... (Unregistered) - 2007-04-30
 » only 15 hours?

Four a battery that size, I'd expect it to get double! The regular battery gets about six hours or so on my PSP, and I have two of them...much more practical to switch batteries that a much smaller than basically carry two psps around. If I'm going to play 15hrs worth of PSP...I'm usually not going to play that all at one time and I can recharge in between playing ;) This is not practical

"up to 7 times the battery life of a standard PSP battery"

"to enjoy playing "on the go" with up to 15 hours of play time between charges."

sorry but my psp batter definately lasts 7 good hours at least and according to those numbers something doesn't add up.

personally i think third party batteries are something to stay the hell away from. And especially since something doesn't sound right about this.

Guys, I'd say stick with sony merchandise on this one.

   Re: ugh (Unregistered) - 2007-04-30
 » ugh

it adds up as far as battery time... on a standard psp battery i think you get like 4-5 hours of GAME time and like 8 hours of *****ing around time. so 15 divided by lets say 5 (for easy math) equals 3 times. Which falls into the spectrum of "UP TO 7 TIMES". They just use word play and numbers to trick you... technically speaking this battery can last up to 35932 times the life of a standard PSP battery.... see what i mean? these *****s used "up to" to scam you, kinda like $99.99. Its not 99 dollars its a hundred minus a *****ing penny.

But Gene you are correct, I would not touch this thing with tommy lee's *****

   Re: ... (Unregistered) - 2007-05-01
 » WRONG

"Up to" does not mean "less than". Up to 7 times means that it will last for a maximum of 7 times the length of a regular PSP battery - which means that it CAN reach 7 times.

If it meant what you are trying to say, then it would be the most widely used advertising trick.

   Re: DJ (Unregistered) - 2007-05-01
 » ....

7 times means that its 7 times MORE than a standard battery. Still, im gonna avoid this until i hear a report that its dangerous or safe.

wouldn't that cause like hand injury?

It's 15 hours until it destroys your psp.

just buy 7 regular batteries and then u can have 15 hours without making your psp obese.

When I read your comment I just had to laugh a bit about the "PSP Obese" because its true, that thing is HUGE! lol

 » Who would buy this?

Just spend the $100 on two 2200mAh batteries and a charger. Then you won't have this monstrosity hanging off the back of your PSP.

   by sinjinn (Unregistered) - 2007-05-01
 » well...

its good to have the choice. hopefully the price on this thing will drop since noone will buy it.

if you go on a long journey its good have soemthing liek this because it can last you a week and u dotn have to worry about it.

also.. i think it will last 7 times as much , other wise they wouldnt advertise it that way. if you rip your umd's to iso's you get a lot more play time out of it. i would guess you'd get 25 houirs out of this battery that way and it would cramp your hands while your playing.

» Whose idea of math is this?

Since when does 1800 mAh x 7 = 4500 mAh.

The capacity of that gargantuan battery is not even 3 times as much.

Advertisers must believe that we are all ignorant, stupid, or both. Buy 3 regular batteries for just about the same amount of money and you will have 5200 mAh worth of power and you will not have to put your PSP on a stand to alleviate your forearm fatigue.

P.S. BTW, I think the new official PSP batteries are now 2400 mAh. If this is true you would have the same capacity as that paperweight with only 2 original batteries.

Just curious.. how on earth do you get the UMD disc out?

   Re: DJ (Unregistered) - 2007-05-01
 » Oh yeah...

i havent realized that. Great question. I think there is a latch that allows it to open the umd door, but i think you will end up taking out the battery.

 » Stupid Ne Gros!

I bet some stupid Ne Gro stole some money and created this piece of shi T ad and product.

This Ne Gro can't even add. 1800 mah (the standard PSP battery pack) multiplied by 7 is much much much more than that battery's 4500 mah rating. This Ne Gro cannot add.

Another this Ne Gro failed at was that this battery is pretty unsafe. Lypo (Lithium Polymer) batteries are not as safe as Lithium Ion batteris. This type of batter, the lypo, can cause fires much more frequently. That's why many technological companies don't use this type of battery as a standard for their products. However, this Ne Gro is so stupid, even for a Ne Gro, that he did not think this through when deciding to advertise and make this products.

Now that I think about it, no Ne Gro ever thinks! It would be quite a miracle if on ever did.

Dude, WTF is your problem. Did you get beat up too many times? Did someone steal your lunch money? Back off on the statements about someone's color. I am not black but your ignorant, racist, and plain stupid views disgust me thoroughly. Find a quiet place and go die slowly would you. The world does not need your type of person to be a part of it.
   by DJ (Unregistered) - 2007-05-01
 » btw....

this will be usefull eventually. Eventually Sony will release another power hungry add-on accessory that will drain the battery quicker than a GPS or possibly a Chotto Shot. You see, this will be perfect, (that is if it doesnt use the usb area) in the future.

They said 7 times longer than a psp batery they never said the psp one was fully charged it coud of been 1/2 charged so they coud say it lasts 658 times longer get it?

p.s. why is every one so aggressive?

 » ???

4500mAh is 2.5 times the capacity of the normal PSP battery.
So "up to 7 times the battery life of a standard PSP battery" is hugely misleading.

Saw the same thing by Mr.Battery in january.
But couldn't find any sales of it.

 » Got one

I picked one of these up off of eBay a couple of months ago (No, I didn't pay $100). It is big but it makes the unit more comfortable to hold (the finish is rubberized). Haven't had any melt-downs with the li-po either. I used to swap between two standard Sony 1800 mAh cells but this outlasts the combined play-time. Btw racist guy - you suck!
