Good night, sweet prince. - Image 1First it was Microsoft relenting to the demands of the bereaved many and making the necessary adjustments to its policy regarding fixing consoles with the Red Ring of Death. Then it was Robbie Bach selling off US$6.8 million worth of shares at the height of the Red Ring frenzy.

Now, another stunning development - Peter Moore, Corporate Vice President of the Xbox 360/Internet Entertainment business division of Microsoft, has just been confirmed to have resigned from his position, with former Electronic Arts Inc. President Don Mattrick to take his place. This was the shocker that Microsoft itself announced through a press release.

So what made him go? Before we start pointing fingers at a particular crimson ring of light, it's not the reason at all - or so the announcement says. No, Peter Moore's resigning for personal reasons, deciding to move his family back to the Bay Area.

It seems that he's also secured another opportunity in the video games industry - what opportunity, we don't have any info as of yet.

What about Microsoft? Well, they're certainly sad that he's leaving but they don't seem to be that worried that one of their very staunch supporters - namely, the guy who got a Halo tattoo on his arm - left, as they're looking forward to Don Mattrick's experience and management savvy. Robbie Bach and his thoughts on the matter, verbatim:

Peter has contributed enormously to the games business since joining Microsoft in 2003 and we are sad to see him go...While Peter will certainly be missed, we are delighted to have one of the industry's most talented and passionate veterans on board to lead the business.

While we're certainly relieved that Microsoft's already found a replacement for ol' Peter, we also can't help but wonder how the Xbox 360 will fare without him. Time will only tell. Updates as we get them.

he couldn't find anything to tattoo on his arm for E3...

should have gone with Beautiful Katamari.

kidding aside... Peter Moore was actually a good spokesman for Microsoft, i must admit that he sometimes ticked me off and with good reason... some statements he's made mades sense and for a PS3 supporter it gets to you.

so the same thing with Ken... Good Luck Peter Moore.

 » oh

and one more thing Peter...

as soon as you and your family gets settled in the Bay Area don't forget to get a PS3... lots of good games coming soon and you also get 5 Blu Ray movies for free!!! don't put it too close to your 360 though, you don't want to be having problems with Microsoft's customer service.

and while ur doing your stuff in EA do somethng with NBA Live ok???

i'll see you in Home.

well maybe not for you, but there are quite a few games that interest me, and they will start coming out month after month, starting august.

And personally, I would still get a sistem that had no games but didn't broke out either.

 » Lolz

You PS3 fanboys take anything you can get to make the 360 look bad don't you? Even if it doesn't really get the job done, because you have so little to use. Haze looks sub-par, face it. Stop using it to bash the 360, because 1. the 360 is getting it in early 08, along with UT and 2. it doesn't even look like it'll be any good, nowhere near half the games coming out for 360

And you know it's going to be Halo > Killzone, just like last time. Also, Halo > Haze

LOL were not trying to make xbox360 look bad they did it all on its own with its faulty systems.

Don't believe it, but what ever. As long as its ea SPORTS, then I'm good. But cmon, he was acting like an xbox fanatic, and acted as if resigning was the last thing on hes mind.

Which brings me to this, He was going to be fired due to the overwhelming failure of the 360. So he was giving the option of resigning or being fired, and like any sensible person, choose to resign.

ken kutaragi created the PS1 and PS2..... and well....the PS3. PS1 and PS2 become the highest selling game consoles ever......He resigns and everyone talks shiet about him?

Peter Moore was behind the xbox for what...4 years. and everyone cheers him? wtf is that? i know the 360 is doing well right now....but what accomplishments did peter moore do so far?.... keep the PC and Windows alive for a few more years?

face it....Apple, Inc. is catching up with the Mac and has their Ipod dominating.

Sony HAD the console industry last generation. and who knows about this generation.

some top exec sells $6.8M of shares of MSFT??! (No...dont bring SNE stock into this....SNE is slumping...but has been up overall since PS3 launch)

reporting $1billion dollars for product maintainance does not look to great on paper and financial statements.

and i know a HUGE Majority of people here hate EA Sports. Everyone talked shiet about EA when Madden 07 was the #1 game for the PS3. (Maybe cuz it was #1 for PS3) now what do you have to say?

haaa

Do people not realise that one person, even a VP, within a company doesn't do ***** all ?

Really, losing one person, of any stature does not make a difference, there is always someone to take there place and do their job for him.

Peter Moore was just a face/voice......and I will humour you and say "360 does not need PEter moore" Just like PS3 doesn't need Ken K....and like MS doesn't need Bill Gates anymore.....the cogs will keep spinning, don't worry.....

   Re: qw (Unregistered) - 2007-07-17
 » Exactly

Anyone, even the founder of a company, is expendable and replaceable. The only loss that could make a difference would be Nintendo losing Shigeru. Sony can lose Phil Harrison, MS can lose Bill Gates, Apple can lose Steve Jobs, Nintendo can lose Reggie, and none of them would be affected in any adverse way

DO you have any idea what MS will be like when they lose Bill gates the founder of MS and the one who made it what it is today. Obviously no with that ignorant statement. IF MS loses the man who made billions with the PC industry will have a bigger impact that if Sony loses Phil or when they lost Ken.

They had someone under Ken for like 10 years or so who knows just as much as he, with newer ideas. Who is going to replace Bill Gates Think about how your post is idiotic.

Peter Moore is expendable yes, so is Phil but not The president of a company you retard.

   Re: t_baggin_u (Unregistered) - 2007-07-18
 » Peter Moore

I like playing video games but I can say that I've ever heard of Peter Moore. Apparently he must have had a pretty big w.ang because everyone in here seems to wanna suck on it. I'm a fan boy by the way. I'm a fan boy of fan boys. I love seeing you guys suck off big corporations. It makes my happy! "QUICK! Somebody sell me your product so I can defend your entire existence until I die, regardless of weather you give a crap about me or not!"

   Re: qw (Unregistered) - 2007-07-18
 » Hilarious

Bill Gates has already essentially chosen his successors Stealth. But nice try. By 2008 Gates will no longer hold a day-to-day job at MS, and he is already making the transition, with most tasks he used to do now being handled by Ray Ozzie, Craig Mundie and Steve Ballmer. They made the change back in 06, and nothing has been different or bad for MS since then (the warranty change expected to cost them one billion or more is pretty bad, but that stems from a mistake they made when designing the 360, and it was designed when Gates had full control)

It's always worth a shot to make yourself feel better and seem intelligent by telling others to "think about how their post is idiotic", but it really sucks when you fail doesn't it?

Like I said, Gates is replaceable, whether you want to believe it or not. There are plenty of people more than capable of handling what he used to handle. He has essentially already been replaced, what more do you want?

Sorry but you have to open you´re eyes... maybe you can tell me that you´re xbox is okay... and you can be happy with 3 years warranty ( because you will have to use it) but thats just you!!! see the other post and the sources of them and see that 6 out of 10 360 overheat and then red rings of death!!!

So... who looks retard now?

Re: You're the retard now. (Unregistered) - 2007-07-17
 » Sad...

Do not try to call somebody else a retard, when you don't even understand the basics of English. "Whos retard now?" Thats just sad.

Anyways, the way you bash Microsoft, you act like it was all your plan and that you work for Sony so it will somehow profit you. Do you work for Sony? I doubt it. You couldn't possibly work for them with your intelligence level. It's sad that you're so happy about the failures of a company that doesn't really change your life in any way. YOU need to open YOUR eyes. Sony has their flaws too. No console is perfect. Just buy the ones you want, and enjoy the games. I have a 360 and I love it. I also recently bought a PS3, and while I like it, I don't like it nearly as much as my 360 but I'm a gamer and I want to be able to play as many games as I can. You just need to respect other peoples preferences. Stop being a fanboy and play your damn games.

   Re: Stealth (Unregistered) - 2007-07-17
» to You're the retard now

While i agree with some of your post, what flaws does Sony ps3 have.
Let me list one: Price, the only problem really. You may not be intelligent to understand what Sony is doing, but i know full well what they are doing from researching. It seems the price cut was to get rid of the unsold 60GB systems. Then bring in the 80Gb after the 60 is gone and sell it for 499 as well. Than sometime in 08 lower it again.

They have games coming out now. The Xbox has so many flaws it over shadows anything in gaming history. 33% failure rate is high enough but when MS admits all of there 11.5 million systems are flawed and now this, it shows you how bad MS is right now.

So b4 you bash Anonibuts recheck your history, by the way his statement was fine. Better than yours. And he said this " So... who looks retard now? Not "Whos retard now. You make it worse. The only thing i would do is put ed after retard but its perfectly fine.

   Re: Anonibuts (Unregistered) - 2007-07-18
 » Ha

To .You´re the retard now. Ok so i don´t speak english as my native language ( Spanish is ) But anyway you did understand me.

I know that crap about... ooh if you like a console you like..then buy it... thats bullcrap. It doesn´t matter what games you like if the console dies when you play. Like buying a 52 plasma to watch the super bowl.... then it overheat in the middle of the game... what trust will i have in that company? so you have 3 years warranty... fuc kit!!! i buyed the tv for the superbowl.... (oh, put halo or a 3 month suscription to live instead of superbowl). Another example... if you buy a toster... and it just keeps breaking and breaking...and then they say they changed youre toster but it keeps
