Pelican eats pigeon alive. WHAT THE?!?!

What the - OMG, OMG, poke my eyes out! Turn away, kids!!! (BBC/C. McNaughton)


Please forgive our profane outbursts as we retell this tale so odd, you'd swear it's for the birds. Or just simply swear, period. For we cannot help but feel what we feel after hearing this story.

The BBC said it best: families and tourists strolling through London's St. James park were left shocked, SHOCKED I tell you! when a pelican suddenly scooped a pigeon up in its cavernous beak, then swallowed it whole. Holy s**t!

As photographer Cathal McNaughton, who also took the picture, described it (and we paraphrase): the pigeon was minding its own business when the pelican suddenly scooped it up. There was a bit of a struggle for 20 minutes, until the big bird managed to swallow the pigeon head first. And that pigeon was kicking and flapping the entire way down.

Did you have to mention that factoid, Mr. McNaughton? I'm gonna have nightmares tonight! ****!

This is not normal, noted a spokesperson for the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB). The normal diet of a pelican is fish. Pigeons aren't even in its high-end menu. I say again, Whiskey-Tango-Foxtrot?!

Maybe pigs will never fly - but it's now a dog-eat-dog bird-eat-bird world. OMG. How can we even begin to explain this? (How am I even going to sleep tonight? Aaaah! The sight is burned into my eyes!!!)
