Kid with Gift - Image 1The ESRB does an okay job of assigning the appropriate age range to a game, but since there are so few "E" rated games worth playing, confused parental minds may need a bit of help choosing the right game that's both interesting and Kid-friendly.

Enter, Parents.com, who put together their picks for the five best videogames for kids and a provided a brief explanation for their choices:

We Ski- Wii (Ages 5+)

We Ski does an admirable job mimicking the arm movements (pull the nunchuck and remote toward your body to tuck poles and increase speed) and balance techniques you actually use on the slopes. Plus, it supports up to four players with a split-screen multiplayer mode.

Kung Fu Panda- Wii, Nintendo DS, Xbox 360, PS3, PS2 (Ages 6-12)

A fighting game without violence, if you can believe it. Detailed graphics aptly reproduce the fanciful world that was so beautifully rendered in the film. And the Jack Black imitator is pretty spot on, too.

LEGO Indiana Jones: The Original Adventures- Wii, DS, PS2, PS3, Xbox 360 (Ages 10+)

Once you've racked your brain figuring out the decently challenging puzzles, you're rewarded with humorous asides from the movies, like a cocky Dr. Jones reaching back for his fedora, nearly being crushed by a giant stone door in the process.

Guitar Hero on Tour- DS (Ages 10+)

The appeal is definitely in part the novelty of a shrunken-down Guitar Hero you can pull out of your pocket. The hand-sized strap-on Guitar Grip controller slips right into the DS console, enabling you engage in the same challenging rock-alongs as the original.

NCAA Football 2009- Xbox 360, PS3, PS2, Wii, PSP (Ages 7+)

In addition to some very cool additions to game play, '09 has also made some nice tweaks to the Dynasty mode, including an ability to enter a dynasty online and compete with up to 12 other players for the same pool of prospective students for over 60 seasons.

 » Wow...

Either they didn't put much thought to it or they were paid by gaming companies to choose specififc games cuz most of those suck. I would reccomend a better list:

1. Super Mario Galaxy (wii)
2. Little Big Planet (ps3)
3. Viva Pinata 2 (xbox360)
4. Rock Band 2 (wii, ps3, xbox360)
5. Mario Kart (DS)

 » Target Audience

Gotta remember the target audience here. I've played Lego Indy - not a bad game, but I think I preferred Lego Star Wars overall. I can see Wii Ski being appealing to people with younger kids. I can't comment about Kung Fu Panda - may have to check it out just as a kid-oriented title.

I'd generally agree with Mario Kart (Wii or DS in this case). I've heard good things about Little Big Planet, but not enough to shell out that much cash on a new console. :) Rock Band - cool game, but may not be appropriate for most younger kids due to the lyrics. Definitely a hit with older kids and teens.

I'll admit to being a little disappointed in the list - was hoping for more or a larger list with more details on why I'd want the games.

 » No LBP = a joke

LittleBigPlanet - the most wonderful game for kids (and adults still young at heart) ever released gets bumped by these duds?

It doesn't get more E for Everyone (and excellent) than that. What a sad joke...

 » Plus 200%

You're absolutely right-on. I don't think I've EVER seen a more kid-friendly game than LBP. It is an absolute humongous pile of BS that they did not even list this game in the Top 5 list. ....And yet they list Guitar Hero On Tour (apparently, Rock Band or Rock Band 2 are somehow less "kid-friendly"), which contains Rock-n-roll songs with lyrics which are (obviously) at some point about "sex, drugs, and rock n roll". STUPID, STUPID list.... bought and paid for by Lucasfilm, EA, Nintendo, etc.

 » Lego Indie for sure.

My 4yo son has spent many many many hours playing lego indie. Slightly better than the other lego ones for kids to play.

 » Yeah.. LOL

ROFL @ NCAA FOOTBALL 2009, and the rest of the games. Those games aren't Kid Friendly, they're just crappy ones. LBP, Loco Roco are by far the best so far and don't forget Mario and some other Nintendo games. They're cool too!
