PS3, PSP - Image 1

Despite predicting that the PS2 will not have as much influence in the market in 2009 like it used to, Wedbush Morgan analyst Michael Pachter still believes in the PlayStation power, saying that the brand will account for 31% of all the games sold worldwide in 2009.

Continuing their current push for internal development efforts, the PlayStation brand will still not secure significant third party exclusivity. Regardless, Pachter believes that the PS3 will be the top seller, picking up the slack for its older brother, the PS2, that will no longer be putting up significant numbers.

In Wedbush's annual Interactive Industry report, Pachter cited the huge 2007 to 2008 jump in software sales for the PS3 to be an indicator. From 29.6 million units sold in 2007, PS3 software sales ballooned to 62.4 million in 2008. Although the PSP also experienced a sales increase during the period, Pachter believes that it will be the PS3's time to shine this year.

» I find it difficult to believe that there are people...

who have waited this long to buy a PS3. I have all 3 systems HBC Wii, 360 Elite and 60GB PS3. My favorite systems are my DA CFW PSP, HBC Wii & DSi because it's nice to have full control over the media and hardware for once but my PS3 gets the most use because of the Jave PS3 Media Server. I have no idea what I'd do without it!!! Multiplatform owners FTW!!!

 » Whoops

I meant "Java PS3 Media Server". I also forgot to mention my Acekard 2i for DSi:)

Well jee, maybe if I was a rich bastard like you, I'd have a nice PS3... The only "current gen" thing I own is a PSP. Bite me.

Thanks Skygunner I cared so much about what consoles you own, and now you told me, thanks for enlightening me.

Some people will have waited this long because maybe they maybe weren't interested in the product on release (Because maybe they had sense to wait for the price to come down) or couldn't afford it and lets face it recession (Though companies like Sony are fairly resistant to it) will effect people buying a luxury item.

Btw, no one cares about your consoles.

im with slackbabbath here, a ps3 would be great, but money is a serious issue, so don't make narrow minded assumptions please.

Sometimes I'd like believe that I'm some kind of modern day Robin Hood. You are welcome:) All I was saying in layman's terms was that I'm up to date on the current gen and that the PS3 does EVERYTHING that a console is expected to do especially with the Java PS3 Media Server:) Idiots

You know what man, im not going to flame you on that post. You basically just posted and said you enjoy your console, and I dont see anything wrong with that. But it isnt hard to believe people havn't bought one yet, because the economy is down, and people are having to watch what they spend money on. So buying a PS3 is the least of many peoples concerns right now.... and yeah, I love using my PS3 as a media server as well. It really makes you feel like you get your moneys worth when it has as many features as it has.

 » i hope

i really hope ps3 will shine! its just a great system so much better than the 360. 360 was out longer and each time a 360 is sent to be fixed it counts as a resale. if those numbers didn't count ps3 would be on top for sales for the next gen consoles. even though right now it's really close to 360.

ps3 ftw!!!

 » I'm not saying anyone

has to brag about what consoles they own, or if they have well paid jobs or not, just don't come down on folk that save their hard earned cash into buying what they want to buy!

besides, it keeps people in your local electronics stores in jobs!
