PS Home - Image 1That's the question being asked by folks at IGN, and it's the same one we're definitely interested in asking you guys. According to a technical FAQ on Sony's upcoming Home service, Sony's thinking about taking some aspects of Home outside of the PS3, perhaps with some of it hitting PSPs as well.

Here's the question asked in the technical FAQ:

Q: Is Home a PS3 specific service? Will users be able to access Home through other devices?

Initially Home will only be accessible via that PlayStation 3, although over time our intention is to enable users to interface certain Home features and services via other networked devices such as PlayStation Portable (PSP) and mobile phones.

Here's our question to you. How much of Home interests you? What functions do you want to be made accessible through your PSP? What Home related functions would you see yourself accessing in the future through the PSP. Let us know.

too much for the psp to handle? I mean i know it wouldn't be the whole service being ported over to psp, but the amazing thing about "Home" is that is such a huuuuuge virtual space. Imo that wouldn't work in any way if they somehow stripped it down for mobiles & psp.

I guess they could let you edit your avatar on the go? lol

i think home is the stupidest thing. its for every one who is too lazy or too fat to go out and actually talk to "real" friends. And as for starting multiplayer games- Its way too much work! i just want to see a text menu and get to the killin instead of messin around in a stupid virtual world full of 300 lbs child predators.

 » ...

You have no idea what you are talking about.

They arent forcing you to use Home, its optional, if you dont want to use it, you can pop in a game and play from the game interface or start games from Home.

If Home is a stupid idea, then that means Xbox Live, IMs, Videos, Mini games, Achievements, Chat rooms, etc, everything that Home combines into one service, is a stupid idea, correct?

No. Those are not stupid ideas. Just Home.

"Home is for sissies who want to play with dollhouses"

So why do sony bashers say "PSN Sucks" then when Home is realeased ou say stuff like this... Backtracking on your words. If ou've played NBA 2K5, WWE Smackdoown, NBA07; you get where I'm going. Didn't they ALL have a CUSTOMIZABLE space for your crib. Now think about it, why trick out a house when no one else will really see it?

"i think home is the stupidest thing. its for every one who is too lazy or too fat to go out and actually talk to "real" friends"

You're a f'ing loser for that baised statement that people that like hom can't get "Real Friends". Now let me show you how dumb that sounds.

I'm on myspace (myspace.com/blazekingnj) and i live in Trenton, NJ. You do know where New Jersey is? I have "virtual" friends there who are mostly from Trenton because WE ARE ACTUAL FRIENDS DORK!!!! I see these people and contact friends who have moved away.

Baised statements like home is for people who have no social life are stupid. Talking about being on Home all day and not having a social life is kinda redundant because that sound like what a 360 fanboy would say. All consoles have a power button (and I love the PS3's) which turns the console off where you can walk out of the door nd go to work, school, chill with your "real friends" and beat their ass in hoops.

so please fanboy: stop trying to bash home sying we don't have lives as you don't KNOW ANY OF US PERSONALLY and you don't know how tall I am and how bad of a temper I have. You don't know who has what on here by just these words. Wait a minute, your posting comments on here so lets assume YOU have no social life. I could beat your ass in "real" life tho.

"i just want to see a text menu and get to the killin instead of messin around in a stupid virtual world full of 300 lbs child predators."

So you're trying to tell me Home only has this problem? hmmmm......wait. Aren't you on a computer???? The whole world of child predators travel where ever there's an internet connection. XBL isn't safe either that's why they sold mics that scrambled your voice.

Did I shoot this guy down enough?????

 » home sounds fun

hey you probably use some kind of IM (like MSN, AIM etc.) sot... consider home as a fancy fancy IM... and a place where you can easily show of your gaming stuff (trophys, etc)

Well for the PSP it would be fun. A lobby, accesing your "home", maybe 2D trophies (so guys at sony or other corps don't have to rerender the 3D trophies for the PSP engine). That would be all.

If there will be a home for psp. It would be fun to have a custom plugin for it, to acces un-official home servers, where you can show of your homebrew trophys XD

i think home is great! second guy ^^^^ from me, you should just leave, everyone has friends, this is just a virtual world. if this were to come to psp tho, the app for connecting to it sounds like it would take too much flash tho. it would be amazing if they could bring it to the psp, and if they dont at least try, then screw them!!

   by OneWingedAngelVII (Unregistered) - 2007-03-10
 » hmm...

HOME is an interesting experiment. But most useful if you have a lot of friends who also have PS3.

Would be cool if Sony also made a MMO(RPG). More like a game. I can't see how I would use more that a couple of hours one HOME! There is no REAL challenge in the game! I'll probably just spend all my time in the game-lobby, playing bowling.

I hope Sony would make it more "gamish" in the future, and come with a lot of exciting updates and patches.

Home is an amazing idea for PSP, just do it, if people don't want to use it then they don't have to, I can garuntee that at least half of the people who own PSPs will use this.

   Re: liar (Unregistered) - 2007-03-10
» your missing the vision part..

Home is for our ever expanding multi-media lives..brilliant. That's why the PS3 itself is so expandable and flexible and was future-proofed while already another poor 360 imitation is on it's way in less than 2 years.

Absolutely brilliant.

Games have always been just a "part" of peoples multi-media experience and now they can be intertwined as well...brilliant.

Don't need to use it though you can just play games if that's what all you want..nothing taken away.

And it's FREE...DOM...INATION of the console world..

You can buy a 360 or Wii ..but why bother now.

What a knockout blow. All those developers stampeding to the opportunity and leaving the other consoles high and dry. Ouch and double ouch.

Clearly you don't realize Sony's full name is Sony Computer Entertainment Inc., not Sony Console Gaming Inc. The mission statement of the PS3 was to make an entertainment system that would be, literally, in the middle of their living room.

it's not so much as a recall but a hardware update.
the nandflash is made by samsung and there were talks of sony upping the memory. Why would they want to put 8GB nandflash in a PSP???? HOME would be pefect since it's already incorporated in there. Why not have it while your on lunch break at the job???

Am I the only one who has a job? I hope not....

Re: Dont let them upgrade the memory (Unregistered) - 2007-03-10

The reason they would probably be giving it bigger memory is most likely for firmware updates so sony can add more security patches and features

A virtual message board which has a list of games you own. Selecting one will then tell you if it's multiplayer and if anyone is online. That would be sweet.

I doubt PSP can handle a virtual world, so it would probably have to be standard text-based. Sony can still make it look great and very usable.

It should have your buddy list with options to add new friends, see who's online, doing what, etc. Another list showing games you own, with expandable option to display which friends are currently playing.

Different spaces are like chatrooms/lobbies, your homespace is private. You can go to the main lobby and talk openly or initiate private or 'group' chat.

Gamer information should be provided in a simple profile, which can be viewed by selecting any individual in the spaces.

The Hall of Fame should be simple, a side/vertical scrolling list of icons of all the games/trophies you've achieved. Clicking on it should display more details, and so on. You should be able to select anyone and view their Hall of Fame.

Other spaces, like gaming and home theatre will have to be more complicated but it can be done. PSP can handle streaming videos, playing sports, arcade, etc.

" I doubt PSP can handle a virtual world, so it would probably have to be standard text-based. Sony can still make it look great and very usable."

Uh it's a 3d world how many PSP games have a 3d world? plenty it's more than capable of 3d rendering. It would be dumbed down but still look pretty.

Anyway all you folk who say it's a dumb idea. No it isn't check out the amount of people who use myspace and second life, sony are hooking into quite a lucrative market.

   Re: Dodo - 2007-03-10
 » ..

Rendering 3D world and doing it over the internet in real-time isn't the same thing. I have "doubts" if PSP can handle that. I'd love to be proven wrong, because a virtual PSP community would own. Even pixelated avatars (see Habbo) would be awesome.
   by YSNP (Unregistered) - 2007-03-10
» Perhaps it shouldn't get Home itself..

But maybe the functions of Home that use the PSP inside home, could use your actual PSP via remote play. Think of it, you wouldn't even have to use the PSP inside home... just move furniture and the like with your PSP.
And I don't mean stream graphics, I just mean show the menu and the controls. If you went to place furniture, you'd still be looking at your TV screen. Just using the PSP to do it.

» im sick of these xbox bashers. just jelouse.

u guys are *****ing retarded, hmm, i wonder why do u think they are updating the san*****s for the psp. 8 gig, gee let me think maby to help run home, and for the people who think home is gay, that is ur opinon, u probly dont have enuff money to buy one, so instead u bought a xbox, i have nothing against the systems, and its stupid to compare the consles, i have ps2 and i love it, i have psp and i love it, and a ps3, all different graphics, i have a xbox 360, different graphics, over all its up to the person on what they want, do they want xbox games or ps3 games, xbox has great graphics, but would i pay 200 bucks for a used one at the pawn shop, maby for my kid nephue, its kiddy stuff, even if that, the odds of the xbox overheating and blowing up is kinda great. same with the ps3, but hell thats why u buy a freaking warrenty. so if ur jelouse of the ps3 then just save up and buy u one, the ps3 is well worth it, and simple to use, xbox on the other hand, when i first tryed it, we couldnt even get the damn game to come one becuase the interface is too damn mixed up with bull *****. u cant say that ps3 raps is the only one that raps ur for ur money, so does microsoft, when i first got the first xbox, it required me to by a remote adaptor to play dvd's on . thats a gip, and i will always hold them acountable for that. xbox may have fun games now, but wait untill gta is only avaluble on ps3, then what u gana do, the chances of it being on xbox might not be that good, or u guys may have more games with more graphics in it right now, but there is just so much a hd dvd can do. blue-ray can make it possible to have a whole world connected to gether, interacting with eachother, and robing the damn joints. we are talking alot of gigs on one disc, 25 gb on one, 50 gb on a dule. u do that in comparison with the old ps2 games or xbox, thats a big dfference, hd dvd does not have as much gb space for developers to add more features. ps3 will have the same amount of graphics with more featers in the game, xbox will be like that shenmue game that had killer graphics when it was released on dream cast, but very limited, u cant have great graphics and extra features if u do not have a lot of space, so my money is on ps3/blueray. just the fact that more is better. blue ray is ahead of its time probly buy a few decades, the more uncompressed and the more pixles and components of a great intertainment setup, hd-dvd, is going to be opsolete just becuase the fact blueray uses a blue laser that can right more data on to a single disc, hd-dvd is great but blueray will rise and have better uncompressed quality.

the whole point is better quality in video games, sony seems to be suporting that, so why dont u suport sony to bring more realistic games.
