Project4 v1.6180 released - Image 1Auraomega has triumphed. We're making a note here: huge success! Project4 is now out of beta and releasing on time! It's now available to the public, calling itself Project4 v1.6180.

If you're late to the Project4 party, allow Auraomega himself to explain what the shell is all about:

Project4 is currently the only true XMB replacement for the Sony PSP. It completely replaces Sony's XMB, and works directly and independently from the NAND flash. Contrary to the common shell for the PSP, Project4 physically removes the S-XMB from loading, and replaces it with code specifically designed to work all from flash without ever needing a memory card.

The shell has a couple of extras, such as a calendar, calculator, and stopwatch, which might be buggy at this time but will be improved upon in future versions of the shell. For now, think of them as placeholder applications.

Furthermore, Project4 has been made more user-friendly. The configuration file is easier to read, shortcut buttons are now enabled, and there's now some plugin support for files. More information on each of these additions can be found in the linked forum page which details the changes we've outlined here, as well as in the extensive readme file included in the file.

Lastly, Auraomega is once again taking in donations to help subsidize the cost of buying a new computer, as his current computer is on the road to conking out completely. If you like what he's made, feel free to visit the sourced link below and donate to his computer fund.

Once again, thanks to Auraomega for the email, and stay safe on your hiking trip!

UPDATE:

You may want to hold on downloading Project4, folks. In addition to the comments that were left on the site, we just received a tip from Lgndryhr saying that the shell causes bricks for some users as it isn't able to load p4ml.prx. Furthermore, it outputs the following when trying to install:

Error code: 0x80010002
In function: loadplugins
In file: main.c
Action: pspSdkLoadstartModule

Description:
error Loading p4ml.prx

The current theory behind this is that you need a theme prior to installing Project4, so you'll want to go into the Project4 forums and pick up a compatible theme before installing it. That being said, we advise those without a means of unbricking their units to refrain from downloading or installing this shell until we get more information.

UPDATE 2:

DrBaronVonEvilSatan has offered a workaround for the bricking issues concerning the missing p4ml.prx. The theme below includes a copy of p4ml.prx, so just download it and put p4ml.prx in flash1:/P4 along with the theme before installing Project4.

 » BEWARE!

did a full install on my slim running 3.95-GEN2
and got bricked..
recovery menu works, so you can experiment..
just wanted to inform you..

   Re: isti - 2008-06-23
 » LOL

this pack doesn't include a theme..
so if you install it, you'll get a brick for sure, unless you dig a them out of it's forum..
I just can't wait newbies like me starting crying here..
because the pack you're hosting leads to 100% bricks.. because of lack of theme..

   Re: isti - 2008-06-23
 » congrats..

not even the recovery works from recovery menu..
now I'll have to pandorize.. :S

» Some advice before hand would have been nice

Every release of this has come with a warning about potential bricks since it messes with the flash, why is it that qj doesn't bother adding them?

Oh yeah, that's right, it's because we have people adding articles solely to add them without bothering to do their research first.

 » no

maybe the people installing this shoudl do there own research by now

your a pure noob if you simply download something without totally checking it out

and the majority of people here know what tempering with the flash can do

and for the newbies they should research everything people installing or using anything

also i dont know why people are still making shells

you can totally change the appearance of the offical xmb now into a very sleek menu

people should be focusing on the ability to add icons to the xmb to cover for the extras in shells, not making shells

   Re: nihouma - 2008-06-24
 » Not a shell

The article is erroneously named, as Project4 isn't a shell for the XMB like irshell, but rather a complete and total replacement for it.

» I'm not what you would call an early adopter!

Adopt late ... very late ... only grab the previous version ... and only if no one had issues.

Don't get me wrong.
I love you early adopters!

 » A good tip

If you have bricked your psp, you
can go into GAME if you have a card reader
and change the folder name to "RECOVERY"
then go to your recovery menu, and select
the run eboot or w/e from recovery.zip, and
it will boot up project 4, then just do uninstall,

also, from experience, the self- destruct button
formats everything in your psp's flashes

 » 3.95 GEN

Hi
I have CFW 3.95 GEN and installed Project4, but when i boot it says the same error [p4ml.prx]
so i copied the file [EBOOT.PBP] from [Project4] into [/PSP/GAME/BOOT] and booted from it (due to the boot bug in 3.95 i've used [AutoBootFixer v1.0])
after booting into [Project4 installation] i've uninstalled [Project4]
and when i started my PSP (expecting XMB to be loaded) i got a blank screen!
How can i restore the normal XMB?
