I think the advent of a long awaited and quite frankly long overdue ability to deliver a downloadable service for the PSP will help us out a great deal... Hopefully we'll have it out there by the fall. |

that's just bad. No really, I don't give a *****. Who cares? Just keep getting stuck with some ***** digital rights management - the download service would suck anyway. So screw you $ony.

Are you high? Don't get me wrong, I completely support UMD as a distribution medium, but that doesn't mean I think of it as flawless. There's plenty of flaws to be found with it. Here's a quick list in case you need one:
- Cases around the discs have been known to come apart.
- The discs themselves are fragile compared to other media options.
- UMD's require an optical drive to read them, putting a larger power drain on the system, which in turn reduces battery life of the system.
- I like having movies available on UMD, but all too often, the movies offered are too expensive. Usually they cost more than their DVD counterpart and frequently have less content included.
- Without standalone players available for UMD audio/video discs, you lose a lot of the versatility you get with a DVD video which you can play nearly anywhere, including the PSP (requires a little work, but can be done, though it's not entirely legal in most places). The new slim PSP will help this issue somewhat with the video out inclusion, but it's not a perfect solution.
they were refereing to the quality of the video in a UMD movie, which is near-flawless for a screen that size. Read next time.
let me address and debunk all of your points
- The cases rarely break, it's as common as breaking a cd/dvd. Only one game of mine has had it's cover broken, but that's cause my friend stepped on it. Just take care of your stuff and they wont break.
-see above
-The same is true for all optical drives, it's an understandable payoff for greater storage.
-That is why Sony wants to create a downloadable service. Sony has learned from it's mistake of leaving it up to publishers to control it's own movies, they should have regulated it better, however i don't see how that is even a flaw of the medium.
-UMD+PSP period. A majority of people don't even know how pass videos from thier PSPs to thier computer, and being able to do that with a DVD is less likely. The video out on the slim is an excellet idea for watching on a large screen.
Finally, like UncertainGod said, they were talking about the quality of video, but your points were wrong anyway...
they aren't holding it back because of drm, it's cause they're waiting for home and the slim.
they break all the time the little see thru top ussually callapses in ar the whole tops falls apart there just pieces of junk
The only reason they're holding it back is to coincide with the release of Home for the PS3. Not for some DRM crap.
DRM...translated, too many hacking douche bags stealing games! Yay! ...You guys realised Sony wouldn't hate (any may even support) homebrew if it didn't go hand-in-hand with outright theft on some people's part, right?
this is why the PSP is so far behind the DS. Way to go Sony! You had plenty of time to check this out.
Sony should just cut it's losses and realize that no matter what they do, someone WILL hack whatever protection they've put up and share it with the world. I love how these companies spend thousands, millions of dollars trying to implement anti-piracy technology that's cracked by some kid or young adult for free with only a few hours (or possibly days) of work. It'd probably be a better business decision on their part just to let it go.
Why would Sony or any company want to give their services for free or without protection. That is the point of the company, to make money from their product!
thepsphackers.freeforums.org
We have to wait to firmware 4.00 for this i think!!!!
hope that m33 team will hack 100% psp store so we can get everything without paying a penny!!!
im counting on you M33!!! =)
I dont care about the ps store - ***** drm and other rootkit *****.
http://www.theage.com.au/ffximage/2006/10/03/antidrm_wideweb__470x347,0.jpg
cause then sony will take it away... its cheap-a$$ douche bags like u that are the cause of this delay!!!!
I'd rather they spent the time to get it right than rush it. The PSP is an awesome piece of hardware, and although its taken a while to really show itself off, it has plenty of life left in it, and far more potential than the primitive DS (whcih I also own, but rarely touch).
Snake, you don't actually think you could download anything from there without paying a penny? Impossible. And you support Team M33? That's just pathetic man... I will never use Team M33 firmwares, and those guys will soon get a burnout since they release new ***** all the time. I trust Team WildC*rd! Atleast their firmwares are reliable.
both firmwares are equally as reliable. tried and tested them both. until i bricked my psp yesterday.
and nobody will try to crack the drm for this because all the decent developers (m33 and wildcard) are against piracy. plus each individual file will be drm protected not the program.
How does cracking the DRM piracy? Just because it doesn't have DRM doesn't mean you pirated it. I own everything that I have taken the DRM out of. I paid for the music, software, video, or game and I want to enjoy it on my own terms, not the people that made it terms.
music (use ares) and movies (rent, then copy on hardrive), but i don't mind paying 5-15$ for some downloadable games... then again i need all the money i can get for my ps3 so i dunno...
almost-flawless UMD media???
SCREW THEM!
thats why I pirate games
they are faster
free
and saves battery life
some of them are SO bad that I even have to erase the ISO :(
so, there are could games that you cant pirate, others that arent worth pirating them...
Shut the F.U.C.K up you deadbeat piece of S.H.I.T
there are 3 reasons why i use iso's:
1. Much faster loading and i hate that nise that the umd motor makes
2. I can test some games that i might have bought otherwise and then decide they are garbage (like sonic heroes)
3. I will spend the money that i would have spend on my psp to buy ps3 games (so in a sense sony still benefits)
However, when dl games become officially available, i lose my 1st reason, so i will probably start purchasing more games...
no one is gonna pay for drm anyway so donīt waste your time look at the music industri then using drm no one buy then the remove it people star to pay for it so stay away from drm
No one will pay for DRM?? That is quite possibly the most baseless comment I have ever seen on QJ.
What is the BIGGEST paid music download store in the world? Funny that, the answer is iTunes and they use....... DRM (and incidently only a 128Kbit quality filetype).
DRM is no different to a store locking its doors at night, it stops the general joe blow from just walking in and taking stuff for him and his friends. The hardcore thief will find a way into that locked store still just like a hardcore hacker will break the DRM on any protected system.
Everyone puts DRM down but how many of you have actually researched it and understand the need for it and how many of you are being whiney little sheep trying to yell anarchy from the rooftops and curse the corporate fat pig.
Just be careful for if we rid ourselves of these big corporates you all hate so much, who will provide the very systems you love to play with? You can't have both.
Yo guy, check out the current situation with iTunes before you open your mouth.
They are offering DRM-free music now as well as many other sites.
You need to work on your analogies and that wee little bit of corporate brainwashing.
They're offing it NOW, huh? Well ***** me, because they were just failing beyond belief before that....you totally owned his point, as it's only recent that itunes took off. Total win for you.
Wow, another delay because of DRM...
This must Sony's way of saying: "Please, use iTunes instead (you potential criminal)"
I don't even have an iPod but at least they're getting the picture and removing DRM like Universal and EFI.
I for one will not be using the store with DRM implemented, and I challenge everyone to do the same.
This is getting really really old.
Tell me, what percentage of the music industry is providing DRM free music to iTunes?
I have done extensive research on this, more so than most people would have.
So in your opinion all content should be provided so that one person can download it and then give it to everyone for free? Is that how it works when you buy a TV or a Car? Do all your mates get one for free because you paid for one?
I think you need to look a little deeper into this.
I bet they don't want what happened to custom firmware to happen to the psp store... but they can't stop us!!! I bet it would be cracked a day after it comes out...
can someone please explain how to intall Battery 1NFO

How can you compare a car to a file you moron?
Besides the big people hate DRM is because it allows them to use the content in one place.
So now lets say for example i payed for a DRM'd song of off iTunes for my iPod, should i then pay for the song again (from some legal site that uses none DRM'd music) if i want to put it into a CD compilation to play at a party i'm having or should i get the original iTunes song cracked so theres no DRM just so i can use the music legally?
Basically no i don't really like piracy but i do like fair use.
this sentence:
Besides the big people hate DRM is because it allows them to use the content in one place.
should have been:
Besides the big reason people hate DRM is because it allows them to use the content in one place.
But uh, the PSN (which this is an extension of) has DRM and allows you to DL your content to up to 5 PS3's as long as they has your account. I've tested this as I first got a 20 gb model, then upgraded (I can't game online without wifi in my house), and reclaiming blastfactor, which I bought on the old one, was a snap. That and the PS1 games offered on the PSN can be synched to ANY PSP, as long as they're all synched from the same profile (IE only one person's games, you can't "borrow" others). So yeah, you're argument isn't true, as you most likely will be able to use thing on more than one PSP, you'd just have to synch them to the same PSN account, so your buddy can't "borrow" games from you.
You wouldn't need to pay for the song again, you put a blank CD in your PC, then in iTunes, create a playlist for the album and click the "Burn" button up the top right.
"if i want to put it into a CD compilation to play at a party"
As above, create a bloody playlist and click burn. Have you even used iTunes? Do you even pay for music or are you just winging it here and hoping you are not making false comments.
"the big reason people hate DRM is because it allows them to use the content in one place."
Most DRM allows a certain amount of platform transfer. I said it to the last person and now I say it to you, It sounds like you really need to do some research.
And finally:
"How can you compare a car to a file you moron?"
How can I compare a car to a file? Quite easy. The company put the work into making the car, the company put the effort into marketing the car, the company put the time into promoting the car and now they are trying to turn a profit by selling the car.
You think that because it is a digital asset it doesn't cost money to produce, market, promote?
Comments like "Its just a computer file" are designed to make us feel better about the fact that it is plain and simply theft.
You may call me a moron but I assure you, I know more about this topic than most people will ever.
