Here's the first shot of Sony's upcoming camera attachment for the PSP. This shot was taken by journalists at this years E3 gaming expo in LA. To me, it looks just like a smaller EyeToy, but it does fit in well with the PSP's styling, and should look something like this when it comes out in September.

It looks like it will eat up the PSP's battery life too. Most UMD games can get 4 hours out of the PSP whilst on the lowest brightness setting, but I'm willing to bet that this peripheral will half that.

"Most UMD games can get 4 hours out of the PSP whilst on the lowest brightness setting"

I don't think so buddy. Did you buy your PSP at a junkyard? I mean common, 4 hours?? more like 8 especially at the lowest brightness setting.

My advice to you; get a new psp. You know, one actually made by sony.

Are you stupid as hell? No way can you get 8 hours out of the stock battery on low brightness with a UMD. 4 is probably with a not-so-often spinning game aswell.

 » XD 8 hours, hehe

Thats the worst Joke I've ever heard. It doesn't get 8 hours just sat there on the lowest brightness setting. Never mind while it plays a UMD.

I still don't see how this is going to be put into games though. I can see why people will want to use it as a Camera, but whats it going to do for games? Check how much your smiling?

I can get around 12 with the screen off, stock battery at full charge, playing music at 3/4 volume.

"Most UMD games can get 4 hours out of the PSP whilst on the lowest brightness setting"

More like 8 hours on lowet brightness, and that's an average. I get about 10 hours on Lumines.

Why is there always someone compalining about something (realising that he is now complaining) Why can't you just talk about the camera add on?

Camera add on could be good, but hopefully they will listen to some of the suggestions here. I doubt it'll be high res though, probably 640x480 (0.3megapixel) but they might make it lower so that it fills the PSP screen.

» Don't you get it guys

Of course you won't be able to play the same games you play on your PS2 with the PSP Eyetoy. One thing is for sure the DS has Touchscreen with a stylus, the PSP has a camera that will sense your finger without even touching or even worst scratching your PSP. Nice comeback $ony.

no one has a "special" psp.

playing games that use umd too much, you will have between 3 and 4 hours with max brightness and sound.

even if you set the brightness to the lowers, sound in the headphones and a game that doesnt read the umd much (any puzzle?), you will have 5 hours at most.

playing music is normally more than 5 hours if you are on phones, since the screen gets turned off, but use the speakers and itll be less again.

so i'd say the average would be about 4 hours.

 » i got a question

i remember an article way back when that said that sony is going to come out with a new battery that lasts 2 times as long as the other, we use now a lithium ion battery and they said that it is a methanal ion battery. so what ever happened to this so called battery or is it just bull? i mean its only practical to come out with another battery so that developers can use the full power of the psp.

Well they released a new battery, but that only gave an extra 200mAh. I've been waiting for this promised extended life battery aswell, but it's a no show :(
