Basilisk II - Image 1Sanguinus and his friend recently updated ChaosKnight's Basilisk II files, improving its ability to work on the PSP, as well as adding some additional files for people to use in conjunction with the application.

Basilisk II is a Mac open source emulator which will essentially run Mac OS7 on your PSP. Sanguinus also added that he and his friend "put together a freeware tool we found on the internet for editing DSK files. Also, we have made a DSK file with a game of checkers on it and a game of chess also a JPEG viewer."

Here are some additional notes for you to think about. Sanguinus notes that if you want to install it, just extract the files into your game folder and run the application. Enjoy!

  • It is surprisingly quick.
  • Some window moving things cause it to hang, such as scrolling the horizontal scrollbar.
  • Shutdown causes it to hang, so just use Home button to quit.
  • Installing Quicktime is virtually impossible. I spent several hours trying without success as after it was installed it caused it to hang after booting.

you need to set your game folder kernel to 1.5 so that it's running from PSP/GAME rather than PSP/GAME150

» I'm not too much of a MAC OSX Fanboy

I don't rely on MAC OS but I can say that it's tested and
works on my end but to what more, novelty sake?

I don't know to much on how to utilize the importance of it's
existance on the PSP so I will need others to explain this
one to me.

What do we need MAC OS on PSP for?

Don't get me wrong, getting a full blown OS on the PSP is
great but a MAC OS at that? Is that all we can get by way
of good funtional OS's for the PSP?

Well, I am always up for being completely wrong on things
and in hopes that others can show me the guiding light.

If this is a good thing, show me what can be done with
with it, then I may better understand the nature of the
thing.

In no way do I intend to step on MACfans feet.

Show me what I'm missing out on..

"Show me what I'm missing out on.."

Don't worry about it. Just ignore this, look somewhere else. Because obviously this isn't something that your brain can handle.

Sanguinus, great job!! I will try this as soon as possible.

I've always wanted to use this, but the versions I found never had any programs (and I didn't know how to get any programs :P), so this will be really useful for me, because now I can do homework on a games console.

Yep, I'm getting it too. My firmware version is 3.10 OE-A

   Re: Joe (Unregistered) - 2007-03-11
» Explanation: How to get it to run.

If you have firmware 3.10 OE-A you have to go to the recovery menu and change the GAME folder to 1.5 kernel instead of 3.10 kernel. Then it should work properly.

Renaming the files with the "__SCE__" prefix seems to result in the BsOD. Don't change the name of the files just disable the corrupt icons in RECOVERY if you are using Custom Firmware, It worked for me, Oregon Trial here I come!!!!!

I think it would be nice to have an update to the Bochs emulator personally. Mac is okay and all, but I would appreciate Linux much more.

I can't believe h4x0rz haven't crack the PSP to run linux natively. Ok they are cracking 360, PS3 with all the hypervisor armor and all and can't put linux on the goddamn flimsy 333mhz psp? Not only this, they run linux on iPod, Zune, Palms, DS for christ sake!!! And not the PSP???!?!!!

WHAT THE *****???!!!

   Re: Spoo (Unregistered) - 2007-03-12
 » PSP on linux, nope

Someone has done it, sort of. The PSP lacks ... I can't remember exactly the component, but something specific (like an FPU but that's not it) is missing from the processor which means it can't run Linux. There's a version of Linux that doesn't require ... that thing, but it's in the very basic stages of development.

Well I also have a blue screen coming up I have tried the Game folder and game150 folder. I have all the files in the right place, but I think this only works on 1.50 firmwares

Go into the recovery menu and change the GAME folder to run 1.50 games then it should work it worked for me!!

Still though, if the iPhone can handle a cut down version, it makes you wonder what the PSP could do.

I'm glad to see an update!!!

Can someone tell me the exact name of the mac.rom I need to get?

I'll find it on my own, I just need to know exactly what I'm a looking for.

   Re: freyyr890 (Unregistered) - 2007-03-11
 » .

It's not needed, there's one already included in the package (No idea if that's legal, and if it isn't, you DCMA fanboys just shut the hell up and pretend that it is). If you need a different one for whatever reason (i.e. experimentation) then it's the first link when googling for "Mac Rom Download", and from that list Quadra 650 download.

Ok, anybody know where I can get Oregon Trail and others games? I have a site but they give me weird files when i download. Also, where do I go to install the games? Just anywhere in the folder?

   Re: freyyr890 (Unregistered) - 2007-03-12
 » .

I'm assuming you mean Mac Garden. The files are StuffIt files. You'll need to extract it with StuffIt inside the Mac OS itself. Trying to use the windows version will corrupt to files. In order to get the files into the mac os, you need to use the Windows utility provided in the /PSP/GAME/Basilisk II/ folder, and then use it to edit the disk images in the folder (or format a new one entirely).

   Re: Anonymous (Unregistered) - 2007-03-12

Thanks, but this is still a little confusing... anybody know of a place to download games that come in the easiest to use format?
