1Seg Tuner - Image 1The 1Seg TV Tuner for the PSP, voted as one of the features the Japanese wanted most for the PSP, is expected to launch on September 20 along with the PSP Slim.

The device, officially dubbed PSP-S310 and should allow PSP owners in Japan to hook their devices into the 1Seg TV broadcasts, will be available for about JPY 6,700 (US$ 57).  The 1Seg service is currently only available in Japan so the device was specifically made for the Japanese market.

A TV Tuner for the DS and Gameboy systems was also released for Japan last year using the same 1Seg tech.

» PSP GPS finally on sale!!!

Spread the happiness. ON playasia, the gps is finally on sale!! It would be a good time to buy it, with all the new homebrew including Deniska's 3d mode for only $60.

 » License??

I worked in Game in Ireland for a few years and we used to sell the GBA tv tuners. The weird thing about them was that you were meant to buy a tv license if you bought one!

So i'm wondering if that'll be the case with this. TV licenses are mandatory in Ireland and the UK, dunno bout the rest of the world.

 » dumb?

i think they simply checked the markets.
there are more PSP units sold in Japan then in the rest of the world and maybe the infrastructure for terestrial digital broadcast is better
(dont you in the US all have Cable?)

 » makes sense

Sony is a Japanese company and most of their market - demographically speaking - is in japan. If the US/Canada were to buy as many psp's as Japan does, then Sony would be willing to turn their heads our way. But it simply isn't so.

I'm pretty sure it's true for just about anyone on 1.5 or a CFW. If your answer is false then you don't know what you're missing. Check out http://www.psp-homebrew.eu/ for over a thousand game downloads just for your psp. :P

let me tell you this thing is practically useless IN Japan!
japanese TV is just about the worst in the world!!
the irony is that they got tvs in their cars, on their phones, even in their damn showers here, but the quality of programming is third world

   by wtf (Unregistered) - 2007-08-13
 » this is really disgusted

if sony really think that the psp slim will really sell well, think twice... they should make one for the old model and new model, not just new model. Thats obviously abandoning the old ones

   Re: Anon (Unregistered) - 2007-08-13
 » 1 Seg tuner.

Get your info right, the TV Tuner that was released is for analogue tv by thirdparty. There will be a offical Nintendo made 1seg tuner for NDS, but that is yet to be released here in Japan.

 » To Japan.

So japan users will pay $57 monthly? For the 1seg TV broadcast?

   Re: gh (Unregistered) - 2007-08-13
 » ghhg

NO!
57$ for tuner.
dvb-t is free

Re: Andrew Showers (Unregistered) - 2007-08-14
 » wait wait wait

Dotn get confused now, DVB-T is NOT in Japan, thats in PAL territories. Japan uses something like ISBT, something like that, but ya, its free once you get the tuner. Anything your getting with a tuner is gonna be free.

does the tuner work with the old psp?

 » Japan Only

This is NOT leaving Japan.. so dont even bother getting excited about it.. Personally I think its stupid anyway..

by Mister Common Sense - 2007-08-14
» What about the US? What about the old PSP?

What a load of crap.

The PSP has some neat acessories. GPS, camera (although it's a s*itty 1.3MP), and now TV tuner. None if it is available in the US.

When can I get a GPS for my PSP? I would like the camera too if it had decent resolution. Oh well it only works on the PSP slim so it's worthless anyway (like the PSP slim.)

they dont just get everything for psp but for all game systems ds wi ps3 watever and they get like a a load of extra cool game we just get it when it becomes old in japan. the only thing we can get is the tv tuner and i am not sure if that is even for us

know why? people are whining and complaining they can't read japanese words so they won't buy if it ain't translated to english or any language they are from, so why release them outside japan and lose money?
