PS3 motion controller - Image 1Since its unveiling at E3, there hasn't been much info on the PS3 motion controller. Today will be different, now that we'll get a bigger picture of what the PlayStation Eye-powered controller has in store for us. Taking off from the details they revealed at the expo, Sony now coughs out more details for their motion control project.

Addressing its development partners, Sony Computer Entertainment revealed that the PS3 motion controller will come with force feedback rumble, adding that its "face-tracking and head-tracking capability already in the PS3 SDK" will offer developers "powerful tools for new types of user interaction." The controller will also work with the PlayStation Eye's built-in mic array for voice input and recognition.

Apart from the controller, Sony is also currently looking into integrating the existing PS3 controller functions into the PlayStation Eye, like using the PS3 MC as a sword and the DualShock 3 as a shield, which shouldn't be too much of a task since the PlayStation Eye can handle up to four of the new motion controllers simultaneously.

Still no pricing at this point, but Sony has revealed that they're aiming for a Spring 2010 launch, accompanied by a selection of first and third-party content, supporting all sorts of genres from casual to core.

 » Nice

Too bad sony will price it at the 300$ mark or something ludicrous, because that is their business model.

   Re: FelisCatusLover - 2009-06-20
 » ...

And if Microsoft made it, the plastic would be priced at $100, the buttons would cost and extra $50, the motion sensing technology would cost an extra $70, the batteries (Microsoft Play And Charge) would cost an extra $20, the battery cover would cost an extra $10 and the sensor would cost an extra $100...

The OP didn't even say he *owned* a 360, but you used it as an opportunity to turn this into an advocacy d---k measuring contest. PS3 vs. 360 arguments are very much like Democrat vs. Republican arguments....if you were 12 and have an IQ below 80.

   Re: Navani - 2009-06-21
 » lol

Sony will sell it at 300, the 360 WiFi adapter is sold for 100, a Wii remote and Nunchuck are about 50 to 80 altogether.. What's your point?

@ Nineball

I can't see where "360" or "PS3" are typed above your post, and there's certainly no arguing going on.

Teivin may be a p*ssed off PS3 owner and FelisCatusLover may be a p*ssed off 360 owner, so why are you presuming otherwise? Maybe you was having... ooooh, I dunno... a kneejerk reaction!?!?

Anyway, they were actually Microsoft vs Sony as a whole orientated comments, and it was very much started by the original poster.

IQ of 80? I love it when dumb people try to act clever... ... ... and fail.

"accompanied by a selection of first and third-party content, supporting all sorts of genres from casual to core" it looks like there really gonna support this thank god i thought Sony completely abandoned the PS eye

   Re: Shatterdome - 2009-06-21
 » Gave up ?

When did they start ? :P I bought the eyetoy out of boredom....i've bought mesmerize, the fishtank and tori emaki and they are all pretty crappy.

Tori Emaki is neat, cause I am into art and it's pretty....but the controls are horrible same goes for the other "games"

I hope they have tweaked the SDK so that it is much more responsive and accurate. They must have because that new game "eyepets" or whatever, seems to have levels of control way more accurate than any eyetoy "Game" i've played so far.

"I bought the eyetoy out of boredom...."

No, you bought the Playstation Eye out of boredom, not the Eyetoy. Look on the back of the camera and see what its name is.

IMO this is better than Natal, since there's actually feedback to what you do (rumble). It will give the feeling of actually holding an object. And the amount precision possible with this tech is enormous...

   Re: bmxdevil - 2009-06-21
» i think ur right stingblah

i think its better than project natal aswel. Didnt sony say "they found out from their eyetoy you need buttons" i think they were picking on natal.

   Re: StingBlah - 2009-06-21
 » yep

I can't have fun without mashing some buttons. The precision of control over what happens on screen with buttons, and the challenge to master pressing the right button at the right time is the cornerstone of video gaming as we know it. This is why natal will get very boring, very fast.

wont mean jack unless Sony finally gives the PS3 a pricecut. Considering how the PSP Go is like at $250, this controller is probably gonna be a bit pricey too.

   by death - 2009-06-21
 » i see them charging

$60 per controller (just like dualshock)
and $60 for the psEYE
it's really not that bad as they will probably bundle in a game

   Re: Silver-Tiger - 2009-06-21

I just looked at Amazon:

Completely new PSeye: 33 Dollars.

   Re: Eclipze_ - 2009-06-21
 » Yes

I got my Playstation Eye for $30. It actually works pretty amazing imo, Although Eye of Judgement wasn't my type of game it still amazed me that the Eye could read the cards and make them appear on your screen.

I'm happy I got mine early, now I'll only have to worry about getting the controller which I doubt will cost more than a Sixaxis or DuelShock 3.

btw, Happy Fathers Day! (Its today right? :3 )

   Re: Shatterdome - 2009-06-21
 » Yup....

My PS Eye was onsale at best buy for $25

or if you are into card games like MTG then pick up eye of judgement for $50, comes with the cam.

   Re: lito2213 - 2009-06-22
 » Natal?

yea what natal is doing it's cool but i speak for alot of ppl that say ur little advanced technology wont re-place controller's.

natal seems like a reheated pizza from last night.
its the eye toy all over again.
   by deiradinn - 2009-06-21
 » >?

I hope you're not serious Vizard00, you have to have some feedback interaction with a controller. Have you seen the Colbert Report video of the natal system, hilarious.

   by vandread - 2009-06-22
 » Come on...

All this price cut noise is starting to annoy. Look, if you can't afford a PS3 you should stick to buying comic books or find a cheaper form of entertainment or get a freaking good paying J O B.

   Re: Vman00 - 2009-06-22
» oh you forgot one thing

or inherent your brother's ps3

and his tv :)
