Ó

Amid all the different news articles about the weirdness that was the PS3 launch, as violent as some of those events were, perhaps nothing really captured the "before, during and after" feeling as much as the coverage of the Boston PS3 launch at Copley Place.

Let us work in reverse order. Thomas Menino, mayor of Boston, wants to bill Sony (or at least the Sony Style Store) for the fiasco that occurred as a result of the PS3 launch. The fiasco mentioned above was the rush of a few hundred people trying to get in line at the Sony Style Store in Copley Place, which came as a result of bad planning and implementation on the part of Sony Style staff.

The incident could have been averted but was provoked instead by, as Joystiq mentions of that particular Sony store, "withholding launch numbers, not allowing pre-orders and having a laissez-faire system in place for launch." The bill would probably include the use of the police and their vehicles, so you can assume it the payment would be somewhat hefty.

As for the the extent of the mob frenzy created by at the Copley mall, we turn to two videos of the incident in front of Sony Style. These two vids happened from the opposite sides of the fence, and it's rather disheartening to see this happening because of bad planning.

Sony doesn't need to pay for anything, poor planning by the store = your problem.

First and final, They should have just had 20 paddywagons lined up behind that metal fence and then arrested all of those ignorant, jobless, dumb f.u.c.k.s. Honestly, they shoud recieve the death penalty. Lining up is the gayest s.h.i.t I have ever seen. They have no jobs. They don't go to school. Have of them are probably Illegal Immigrants. Just send them to prison. They mean nothing to society.

Menino is blaming and billing the Sony Style store (their owners and managers), not Sony themselves. Please get your facts straight.

I find it funny that the mall security let 650 people run up 3 flights of stairs in complete disorder just to get OWNED by a fence. Worst part is that store probably had like ~30 units.

I felt bad for the people in the front getting squished against
the fence but thats what you get when your impatient.

*Plot for SAW 4*: 1 big room with 650 people tied to metal posts, 1 PS3 in the middle. First one to get it survives. Now that would be funny... and realistic lol

» They cant hold Sony Liable

Sony didnt announce the allocations to most stores.

Only some stores knew an exact number that they would get. My sonystyle store sad more then 10, whats that suppose to mean to me? 11? 20? 100?

You cant hold Sony responsible for the actions of others. Thats like saying the guy who got shot while waiting for a PS3 can Sue Sony for not arranging police to protect the people in the lines.
