Ó

We already knew that the PS3 sceners were cooking something when the earlier news from one of PDX's nfos came out. Then, it said that PS3 these ISO dumps would be playable soon. How soon? Nobody knew. Well, it seems that one of the latest nfos on PDX's dump says that an ISO loader is already in the works, maybe even as far as the beta testing stage.

Now while we can't tell a lot more since we ourselves don't know much, I've received word from a friend that unlike what others say, the application might not come out at all. Strange yes, but definitely something which has happened in the past. On top of that, the exploit is most probably software based since we haven't heard of any hardware modifications. This means that the PS3 firmwares are going to be as flaky as the PSP ones, which indirectly means that Sony will have the difficult task of securing the PS3 firmware. And looking at the PSP firmware scene, we can see all too well that Sony won't be having a lot of fun.

Anyways, here are parts of the nfo which make it seem that something is cooking:

NFO - Image 1

While we don't support piracy, the fact that there could be software exploits in the PS3 firmware makes it seem that PS3 owners could see native homebrew sooner than we think. The fact that they were able to make an ISO loader means that they have been able to compile and run applications on the Game OS.

Again, this being found on an NFO means that we can't trust it fully. Call me a cynic, but I'll believe it when I see it.

they must be British using "sod off"

   Re: Vincent (Unregistered) - 2007-01-28
 » brick...

Imagine bricking your ps3...lawl.

its not like bricking your psp where you could easily *coughcough steal* another one. Although the ps3 was made to handle open sourced codes so bricking would be non-existant since theres no flash it writes to, only the hard drive. The ps3 doesnt run without a hard drive so maybe all firmwares do write to the hard drive...

i never knew only us brits said sod off?....

   Re: Bob (Unregistered) - 2007-01-28
 » Wtf?

Since when did saying sod off make you british?
I live in England and I've never heard it used in normal conversation. It's a stereotype, and what you said is just as valid as me assuming you can't talk or prell properly and have to weigh at least 25 stone.

Well, at least the 25 stone thing, you probably got brought up with the dumbed down american ways of talking and spelling long ago, not your fault I know, but the point still stands.

You misspelled spell...

   Re: Bob (Unregistered) - 2007-01-29
» Yeah I noticed after I posted it

Wasn't paying too much attention, figures I'd misspell spell instead of any other word.

I was talking more about dropping Us and suff though, instead of typos.

Sony can issue firmware updates like crazy for PS3, alot easier then PSP....

This would only be nice if they could also emulate firmware, like the PSP....but that won't come anytime soon.

Not to mention, downloading 25gig iso's is just silly.....renting and ripping....another story ;)

 » Just wondering....

If someone finds out how to run isos on the PS3, will this site keep us up to date with the apps that are able to do it like pspupdates.com?

Was just wondering since the article said they don't support piracy and this article isn't really giving anyone anything besides a mention of one in the works. Even Jostiq.com does that.

We've always been a news coverage site first. So yes, we will cover whatever major happens in the scene. Secondly, we've opened up a bit recently on PSPUpdates when it comes to questionable content. Not much, but enough so that we can help you out with stuff like Popstation or Devhook.

Suffice to say that you will get your info here ;)

Thank you for clearing that up.

I don't have a PS3 yet but I do have a PSP and love your PSP coverage. Was just wondering how similar this section operates compared to the PSP section.

Love this site by the way. Has all the worthy news for every console without all the trivial "filler" articles other sites claim is exciting. Great job!

iso loaders on the psp i can understand. not everyone wants to carry umds around with them wherever they take their psp. but iso loaders on the ps3 only says one thing: piracy

If they really got an isoloader, then it will be spreading in the net soon.

   by Rob (Unregistered) - 2007-01-28
» If the iso loader is entirely software based,

Releasing it could near-instantly retire itself. And that'd be no good. Best bet? 0% internet capability- unplug the ethernet and desolder your wi-fi. If and when a homebrew loader solution comes out, you'll likely be running a "compatible" PS3 software version.

Ok, so don't really desolder your wi-fi. But if your PS3 can use it so will Sony in making sure you have all of the security updates, not to be confused with the system updates that you have a choice in installing.

All in all it seems like a great struggle. PS3 and it's big guys versus the consumer who wants to consume but do so with both kidneys and never stop, not ever.

 » well..

it's become a reality on 360 (at least running backups, now almost plug and play) and MS has even more money to try to end it, so it could be possible. i'm not so optimistic about using ISOs online though...

   Re: Shatterdome - 2007-01-28
 » Yeah...

360 issue's udates as soon as you power-on (system updates) and you have to install them....since there is no battery on the PS3, and no chance of bricking due to a power failure, will the PS3 force updates on you ? or just do it when you power on ?

I don't have a PS3, or i'm sure i'd know, as they've issued a few updates since release....

   Re: Vietone - 2007-01-28
 » Updates

Like the Xbox360, you cant fully use the online system until you update.
   by omega15 (Unregistered) - 2007-01-28
 » no..

The PS3 just tell you to update, and not let you sign in with your account unless you do the Update. In other words you are offline. I don't think there is any problem beyond that. So you could run the ISO Loader and use it, but can't log on to the PS Store and can't play online.

if this happens, at least the hombrew part sony will deny linix. how by updating which will block the ps3 online service.

Paradox actually posted a comment on this story on ps3xpand.com, he said he would release it a day after European Release (March 24)
