Good news for movie fans in our readership. Sony has revealed on the PlayStation Blog that the upcoming PlayStation 3 2.30 firmware will add DTS-HD Master Audio and DTS-HD High Resolution Audio features for Blu-ray movies. In addition, they also released a nice walkthrough video of the new PS Store interface.

DTS-HD Master Audio is said to deliver audio at 24.5 mega-bits per second (Mbps), a higher rate than that found in standard DVDs. In addition, it also supports 7.1 audio channels at 96k sampling frequency with 24 bit depths. Sony pointed out that these features are fully supported in over 100 Blu-ray movies and concert videos.

The DTS-HD High Resolution Audio codec gives users the ability to stream audio at a constant bit rate of 6.0 Mbps on Blu-ray discs. Like the previous feature, it is also capable of up to 7.1 audio channels at 96k sampling frequency/24 bit depth resolution.

Finally, you might want to spend some time checking out the video walkthrough of the new PlayStation Store interface. Here it is, enjoy!

Thanks to mupet0000 for the hot tip!

But for the sound quality, I couldn't care less. I'm still on an SDTV (32" sony wega) and stereo speakers, LOL. Sorry, I know, it's lame. I suppose I'll buy a surround sound system soon.

 » WTF!?!?!?!?!

I love two things about it the best:

1. Everything is grouped together. If you want everything that has to do with rockband....go into rockband... If you want everything to do with flOw then go into flOw....

2. Regardless of how much or how far you drill into a specific section it "looked" as if a simple "back button" is all you had to press to back out of those selections.

If I had to pick apart something I would say I don't like the fact that objects no longer disappear. If a game is found on your PS3 then the icon should go away as it always did. I don't see this as a problem now so much as in the future when there are PAGES AND PAGES of things to sift through. Plus if I can visually see how much stuff I've spent my money on I might back off a little :) Not a good marketing technique! Hehehe...

 » Confusion.

The disappearing items have created confusion in the past. For example, when Super Stardust updated to version 1.1, I noticed a lot of people couldn't figure out how to update because they couldn't find the game to redownload it (it had to be redownloaded at the time, there was no ingame patch).

Also, some people may format their HDD. I'm sure a lot of people were concerned that their games 'disappeared' and they couldn't find them in the store (because the 'Download List' isn't completely obvious to everybody)

I could see why they're doing it this way.

Anyway, this is exactly what i wanted out of the Store the day i booted my ps3 up. It is one of the biggest problems I have with my ps3 (almost above in-game xmb music).

The Stardust update was as clear as day. I clicked on it and it downloaded.

Since the only problem I see is a huge list of items to scroll through then maybe it would be better to keep the icons active and with a PAID smaller icon as they described however PUSH all those icons to the end of the list.

I mean the features are great and all but that Grace Chen is what really put the icing on the cake ;D
