Our own top 10 game weapons of all time

We came across a very interesting list compiled by Gamefaqs recently and they featured the top ten weapons in video game history. For the most part, they were right but we made some tweaks and came up with our own. Did your favorite sword or gun make the cut? Read on to find out.

10. Masamune (Final Fantasy VII)- Always chic in black, with that flowing, silver hair and that piercing stare, Sephiroth is probably the coolest villain in all of the Final Fantasy games, but he wouldn't be the same if he didn't have his Masamune. Much like its owner, the sword is mysterious, powerful and stylish. The long blade's charm is made even more enticing due to the fact that you can acquire it in the Gold Saucer but you can never equip it. Still, it's a hell of a collectible and it looks so good, it makes watching Sephiroth slash monsters that much more entertaining.

9. The Hurly Gloves (Super Mario RPG)- Admit it- all of us, secretly or openly, have wished that Bowser one day gets a chance to knock Mario all over the place. The gloves aren't even close to being the most powerful weapon in the game, but just seeing the reptilian fiend in mid-battle pick Mario up, pull a switcharoo with a Mario doll and whack enemies with the red plumber is the highlight of the game.

8. Cerebral Bore (Turok 2: Seeds of Evil)- Warning: You might want to steer clear of spaghetti sauce and salsa after you get to use this baby. The cerebral bore is THE weapon to have in any FPS. No top weapon list would ever be complete without it. Here's how it works: Find a poor sucker whose day you really want ruined. Equip the bore. If the brain in the head of your sorry victim is large enough, a red light flashes, meaning that you've locked on and the poor mutant/dino's fate is sealed. Let loose the bore! It flies, pierces the skull, sucks out all the cranium's contents and blows up. It's just plain sick.

7. Chicago Typewriter (Resident Evil 4)- Stranger, stranger! Now THAT'S a weapon! Easily, this is the best gun in the entire RE series. Put on that trench coat and your mobster hat and start pumping insanely powerful lead to any enemy in the game. Acquiring is easy. Just finish the game, blaze through the unlockable Assignment Ada and buy it for 1 million pesetas. Trust us, it's worth every penny. The fiendish power and the insane fire rate will tear through every man, woman and child with the plaga, including bosses.

6. The Metal Blade (Mega Man 2)- Anyone familiar with this weapon has to be shy to admit it because it would blow the cover on their respective ages. Nevertheless, this was the weapon to end all weapons in the Mega Man sequel. Most called it cheap, but the hypocrites used it themselves. The Metal Blade doesn't follow the Mega Man tradition of bosses being weak against a particular weapon that Mega acquires when he kills other bosses. The Metal Blade busts everyone open, resulting in the developers nerfing weapons more carefully in the succeeding editions.

5.Yoshitsuna (Disgaea: Hour of Darkness)- Do we even have to go through the gory details of acquiring this sword? For starters, it takes the average player around 80 to 100 game hours to get it. That doesn't even include the horrid number of resets that you have to make if your luck doesn't hold up. When you finally get your hands on it, the game is pretty much over. It gives the wielder 1000 to all non-attack stats, 4000 to attack, two move and 20 jump at base level. If you buff it all the way to level 100, you can pretty much one-hit anyone. To the grizzled warrior of the Item World, this is a war medal beyond compare.

4. Crissaegrim (Castlevania: Symphony of the Night)-  If you have the luck code activated and you've been following a walkthrough, it's easy to find. Just run amok in the Reverse Castle Library and wait for it to drop. If you're playing the game with sheer guts, it's almost impossible to find. Once you find it, though, only Galamoth will pose a threat. One swing with it and you unleash four swipes. One hit is usually sufficient to kill regular monsters, but four? Have Alucard ask Drac who's HIS daddy! You can literally run mashing the attack button when you have it on.

3. Jack Krauser's Arm (Resident Evil 4)-  The cocky mercenary has a better weapon than the Chicago Typewriter: a Plagas-powered angel wing arm that kills anything in a single swipe. The Mercenaries mission becomes a real slaughter when you try how it feels to be a beast. They should have put a grim reaper cloak on Jack Krauser for the total intimidation effect.

2. Shredder (Turok 2: Dinosaur Hunter)- Maybe not anywhere near as repugnant as the Cerebral Bore, but it's probably the most effective weapon in any FPS. Picture a shotgun that blasts a slew of whirling discs of death into a gang of hapless b***ards. Not fun if you're on the receiving end. It can take out single enemies with ease and dispatches mobs in a hurry. Nothing stands in its way for long.

1. Alucard Shield (Castlevania: Symphony of the Night)- Okay, technically it isn't a weapon but when buffed with the power of the Shield Rod, it becomes the single, cheapest yet strongest weapon in gaming history. Ram into enemies with it and inflict highly damaging, rapid hits. If that wasn't enough, you actually absorb massive HP from doing so. Talk about immortality.

What about the BFG in the origonal doom? Wiping out whole rooms of imps and grunts with one beautiful green blast. Anf what about the Redeemer in UT? Just homing that missile into
the enemies base on Lava Giant brings a smile to my face.

I know its real soon and everything but you have to admit, when you first ripped into someone with a chainsaw lancer in Gears Of War it immediately went into the top 10 most badass guns ever thought up by mankind. Therefore, any list that doesnt have said gun is in complete denial of its awesomeness and can be excused from giving opinion from here on out.

The Crissagrim was definitely one of the sickest weapons ever. All you have to do is kill the shoo in reverse castle library and you can get it. Its not really that impossible if your stats are good. Four strokes eh????? Try equipping two of them and alternating or maybe pair it up with the chakram. Unfortunately SOTN was the only version to have a glowing green chakram.

The killer quake mod had some sick weapons. like the Head-lopper, blood drainer homing Nuke. Gibbed Head, xena disc, portal gun...just about every weapon in that mod is better than this entire weapon list...except the cerebral bore..that gun was a lot of fun.

List is whack.

You could list the 10 weapons from the original U.T. and have a better list. Impact Hammer? Flak Cannon? The multi-shot rocket launcher with it's clump/wide array? Redeemer? Even the dual pistols rocked.

The Armed and Dangerous game had some really cool ones too.

But you seem very biased towards Japanese games, I don't see what's so great about them, they're all the same for the most part. But whatever, if that's what you like, it is your list.

Since I don't play too many Japanese games my list would be completely different. I can't think of ten right now, but the BFG and Gravity Gun would be pretty high up. Also a couple weapons from Turok games, those are the best.

Where is Link's Master Sword ? It's probably the most beautiful classical sword in any video game ! Have you ever seen an other in the fore head of a big villain with so much greatness ?

What's the problem with this list, they forgot Soul Edge and the blades of chaos.

i was actually REALLY surprised when i didnt see any weapons from ratchet and clank/resistance. those weaps have to make the list. the Stalker Mine glove? the bullseye? THE WRENCH??? and where is the muthaf*cking GUNBLADE???

What's with all the guns? I mean, I can understand it if one or two were on the list, but come on. I could think of better weapons than most of those. Where's the Lionheart!? It's far better than the plain Masamune. The Masamune's just a long katana, what's so great about that?

i would have to say this list is missing the dark energy cannon from metroid prime 2. charged up and combined with 5 missles it makes a...kinda of demensional hole that sucks in and destroys anything near it...badass if you ask me.

pspupdates is obviously FFVII freaks, the most annoying game of all time. Every time someone mentions PSX emulation on the PSP, "Oooooo! FFVII! Yeah, alright!" Sephiroth's sword is just a big sword, big whoop, the Gun Witch's gun is pretty *****in' big too. Also, the GoW chainsaw gun wouldn't be good either. I mean.. it's a machine gun, with a chainsaw. It would be like putting a rifle with a bayonet on the top 10 coolest weapons list. It's just combining 2 good ideas, a knife and a rifle.

Lancer (the chainsaw gun in GOW) is by far the best and the most creative weapon and whats up with all the swords i mean dont get me wrong swords are great like the katana in Dead Rising but swords arent creative there just blades somtimes they have cool effects but come on Oh the lawn mower in Dead Rising is a bad ass weapon too

Id agree that the BFG is the best weapon and most classic ever. The chainsaw bayonet sucks on every level and no one even uses it most of the time.
