Nyko IntercoolerManufacturer and gaming accessories retailer Nyko finally answers the problems being faced by its Intercooler for the Xbox 360. Three weeks ago, we reported that even Microsoft itself is having some doubts regarding the product. In a statement issued today, Nyko maintains its belief to the accessory 100%.

According to the company, the recent reports are actually isolated events and not to be taken as fact. While also stating they would give the matter a serious look, Nyko then went on saying, "A small percentage of all products suffer from defects and the Intercooler 360 is less than half the average for consumer electronics products." When we had the article put up in our site back in October, all reports have not been accounted for and no official figure was released.

Furthermore, Nyko invites everyone who claims to have suffered the incident to let them look at the consoles. Upon first hand verification that their product indeed caused the X360 to fail, Nyko promises to replace not only the Intercooler but the console as well.

» there is no problems with the intercooler

the only problem people run into is with it giving the so called "ring of death". that only lights up when the intercooler thing that connects it to the power supply becomes dislodged since it dosnt lock.so all you have to do is push the intercooler back into ur xbox 360 and push back in the cable me and my father both have one and we ran into 0 problems thus far and its been about 2 months and my brother has one also and he had no problems yet either.Nyko's intercooler is not bad for ur xbox as far as performence wise its just that the power supply cable dosent lock into the intercooler like it would if it was connected directly to the xbox.and the ring of death only shows is that its telling you its not getting the right amount of power needed to run everything so thats a fail safe to make it so it dosnt fry the components

I took the $20 dollars that I was never going to spend on The Intercooler in the first place and I went out to a bar and bought some drinks and then proceeded to get laid by a fine chick...... Which is probably what some of you idiots SHOULD have done.

Buying a XBOX 360 baffles you because you're a retarded brainwashed $ony fanboy. Why don't you buy all the products they're pushing on you?

I have one of the faulty Intercoolers.

When I first got it, it worked great.

Then after a while, when you turned it on, it'd make a horrid grinding sound. (The fan rubbing on something, most likely.) If you shut it down and turned it back on, it was fine.

Then it would do that until you either hit it (not a good idea) or unplug it, squeezed it a bit, and plugged it back in. (No squeeze, no work.)

I finally got scared by all of the stories about it ruining systems and unplugged it.

When I emailed Nyko, they said if I shipped it to them, they'd ship me a brand new one back... This thing is only $20. It'd cost me a good portion of that to ship it. Thanks Nyko. For nothing.

It's sitting on my floor now.

I had good warning of it, and shouldn't have bought it in the first place. The manager at EB told me about 1 in 10 are defective. 10%! That's 'less than half the average for consumer electronics products' ?? Not a chance. The reported ones are less than half. Most people just throw them away and never buy anything from Nyko again.

3 light failure is brought on by the power cord being loose. what update failure? you dont think sony rushed the ps3 to be out in time for the holiday season? thats why they have such a shortage of shipments, it was rushed to get out in time. if youre gonna be a fanboy, at least know what youre talking about before commenting, otherwise youll just end up looking stupid. thanks.

 » No need....

No need for an " extra " cooler. Nyko is just getting paid by people buying this thing. The Xbox360 already has two fans in it. Seriously, the stock 360's fans are enough to keep it cool.....

 » a waste

the first one I bought didn't work at all, I returned it and got a new one. A couple weeks after that, my xbox would turn off suddenly after about 5 minutes of playing COD 2. The LED on the power supply would turn from amber to red, I wouldn't be able to turn on my xbox without unplugging and plugging it in again. After that happening a few times, when I turned on my xbox I got the red ring of death. I immediately removed my intercooler, and haven't had any problems since. So now my intercooler is collecting dust on my floor. This is probably one of the worst purchases I have made in quite a while. But here's the thing... You're buying something because it promises to protect your investment, and its actually causing more problems than without it.

I would never buy such a piece of s*it. All you need to do is get a small AC brushless cabinet fan from Radio Shack and install it in your entertainment center blowing out the back. Just use a compass to cut a nice circle in the back panel and bolt it in place with some screws and nuts. It doesn't come loose and interrupt power and actually works much better and is cheaper. Make sure to leave the front cabinet door open while playing.

Again. The two fans in the Xbox360 are sufficient. No need for extra rigged up things. Just keep the 360 ( like your computer ) in a well ventilated area and dust free. Enough is enough. Peace.

What's the point in having wireless accessories if you cant hide your Xbox360?

The cooling system for the Xbox360 is poor. They sacrificed efficiency to save cost.

You have a GPU thats using a thermal pad.
You have a properly cooled CPU and thats one good thing.
but you have two fans that are extremely loud.

Those of you who say that when playing games, you dont hear it, well thats like saying theres crap on the walls, just paint over it and it will be ok.

They went cheap on the cooling system. They chose the easiest method and cheapest method. Therefore you are limited in where to place it.

I wished I could place it in my low-profile entertainment cabinet but I cant because the console will overheat. I already went through 2 Xbox360s one at launch that crapped out on me 2 months after and another one I got replaced 5 months ago just before my warranty expired.

Since then I installed a small Air Conditioner in my cabinet so its fine for now.

 » everyone likes complaining

Silicon chip technology is reaching it's limit. Fast processors make lots of heat, there's no stopping that. Don't seal it in an airtight box and no problems. There's nothing wrong with the cooling system as long as you're not an idiot. BTW, I could care less about noise because I'm listening to the surround sound which easily drowns it out even on a low volume.

Like some people say the red ring is when you have the power cable not plugged in properly, you also get the red ring when you don't have one of the cables hooked up properly including the audio/video cable, only a few consoles died on people because of a mistake in the manufacturing in the earlier xbox 360s, I got scared when I saw the red ring, but it was because I forgot to plug in one of the cables, also one time when I booted it up I got the red ring, then I powered it down and back on again and it worked just fine, games still will freeze and glitch but that has nothing to do with hardware that is a software problem which will improve over time, my xbox 360 have been working just fine since day one, thankfully, and people do not buy third party accessories that are not CERTIFIED by microsoft to work with xbox 360, because often times they will mess up your system, that intercooler crap is a waste of money, and veitone if you don't like xbox 360 just sell it and get the inferior playstation 3. LOL
