Nintendo shares leveling out - Image 1It appears that the upsurge in Nintendo shares has calmed down somewhat and levelled after an extended two-year bull run. While still going strong this holiday season, Nintendo has lost eight percent in terms of shares since November.

The increase in PlayStation 3 sales in recent months (due to Sony's price cut) and the shortage off Nintendo Wii units in the U.S. and Europe may have something to do with Nintendo's current situation.

"The PS3 has been doing better recently. But that's partly because there are not enough Wii machines to go around in the United States and Europe", commented Rakuten Securities analyst Yasuo Imanaka.

Analysts have also noted that customers' perceptions of Nintendo's and Sony's respective consoles are also changing as time wears on. Mizuho Asset Management Fund Manager Yoshihisa Okamoto had this to say:

People's perception of the PS3 is improving from an underdog to something better, and part of the money that used to flow into Nintendo shares is now going to the Sony stock.

Analysts, however, have cautioned as well that they cannot place the clear direction that Nintendo's stocks are headed until the holiday sales data come in. Given that Nintendo has set its sights on the holiday crowd, this round of the next-gen console war is indeed far from over.

» The Wii is a great console, with alot of great games coming and already out, but...

Can it actually last as long as PS3 and 360?

Wow I guess this means I really do know what I'm talking about. Let's see if the XBOX 360 will regain more market share in North America when people realize how poorly Nintendo is supporting the Wii. This supply/demand craze will have to die down first, which will happen shortly after the holidays when Nintendo decides to release the stockpiled Wiis from their secret warehouse.

» wow mr SENSE is here big surprise.........but not really....

well u still do not know what your talking about you NEVER do you primarily base your argument on opinion instead of fact...But what could be wrong with your opinion? Nothing is, but you CONSISTINTLY flag nintendo! we get it alright you dont like nintendo or the wii just stop! why cant you see both sides of an argument?! Its really aggravating....seriously NOONE LIKES IT!!! And why would they do this they are losing money and stock value its hurting them and why would they say they were going to try to meet the demand all this time and NOW release enough to meet demand?!?! If they were doing what You say they are then they would have said all up until now that they will not meet the demand and THEN increase market supply!! Well what ever I like the wii alot and it is innovative you can deny it all you want but your basically justwasting your time.

 » The gain is over...

This is crap, the PS3 sales for the week of Dec 3-9 are back down to 38 thousand, while the Wii is back up at 115 thousand in Japan. Their gain is already over. And while these reflect share value, usually shares are not a mirror image of how well a company is doing in the first place.

» What i find funny is

Wii fanboys will continue to believe that the Wii will dominate the PS3. Im sorry but that won't happen. Partly due to the fact PS3 heavy hitters are coming after this month, and the Wii not having any consoles to sell this holiday. Also there is hints that GTA4 is coming early 08 like February since i read something about Australia giving its Rating. And normally that means it basically done. The Spring date was a back up plan if it wasn't. And you know GTA sells consoles, namely PS3's and 360s and when DMC4 comes out again a console seller, then there is MGS4 on man talk about explosion in sales.

Oh just to point out, I saw the News yesterday about stores giving away rainchecks, if they don't have Wii's this holiday, the most interesting part is when they said "Nintendo is keeping stocks low to keep the hype and craze going" Its a plan they did since launch. Now correct me if im wrong but i swear MCS stated the same thing and you guys denied it flat out. Wow It seems MCS does know how Nintendo operates. Sad, this will only hurt Nintendo.
