Nintendo DSi - Image 1 Nintendo Japan's website has been updated to include a section for the new Nintendo DSi.

Some of you might be particularly interested in the spec sheet, which shows the evolution (and devolution) of the new model from the DS.

Bigger screen, check. Camera, check. Shorter battery life? Boo. Longer stylus though. Does that count for something? Anyway, here are the hard numbers:

Screen Size
  • DSi: 3.25 inch
  • DS Lite: 3.0 inch
Screen
  • Both TFT LCD with 260,000 colors
System Size
  • DSi: 137 x 74.9 x 18.9mm
  • DS Lite: 133 x 73.9 x 21.5mm
Touch pen
  • DSi: 92mm length
  • DS Lite: 87.5mm length
Power source
  • DSi: DSi AC adapter and special battery pack
  • DS Lite: DS Lite AC adapter and special battery pack
Weight
  • DSi: 214g (battery pack and touch pen included)
  • DS Lite: 218g (battery pack, touch pen, GBA connector cover included)
Charge time
  • DSi: 2 hours 30 minutes
  • DS Lite: 3 hours
Battery life (** listed by screen brightness, lowest to highest)
  • DSi: 9-14 hours, 8-12, 6-9, 4-6, 3-4
  • DS Lite: 15-19 hours, 10-15, 7-11, 5-8
Compatible software
  • DSi: DS software, DSi software
  • DS Lite: Game Boy Advance software, DS software
Input method
  • DSi: DS card slot, SD memory card slot, AC adapter connector, stereo head phone/mic connector
  • DSLite: DS card slot, GBA card slot, AC adapter connector, stereo head phone/mic connector
Note that the input method in the DSi model does not contain a GameBoy Advance card slot - meaning peripherals that connect to that port are out. Software wise, the  system menu has new stuff to tinker with: DSi Sound, DSi Shop, Picto Chat, download play, and of course, DSi Camera, which offers a variety of modes.

Camera - Image 1

In case you were wondering, the DSi Camera does indeed come with games. There's a facial blending tool, a way to change facial expressions, and a way to measure similarity between faces.

DSi Sound allows you to play music, complete with visualizer and audio tools. It can even remove vocals and you can go karaoke. Quite unfortunately, it only supports AAC audio files, so hold on to your iPhone.

The DSi Shop is the handheld equivalent of the Wii's Shopping Channel, where you'll be able to download both free and paid programs. There are already two free programs available, and that's the Internet browser and a digital notebook that lets you create moving comics.

Unfortunately, gamers outside Japan won't be able to get their hands on any of these new features until next year, as the DSi is a Japan exclusive for the rest of 2008. Dangit.

And another salute to ISOHaven for sending in the tip!

No GBA support (They should add original Game Boy)
Face bending tool? Now that's just creepy.

 » Lowest vs highest?

9 vs 19, yeah, if you compare the crappiest of that light level on the DSi vs the highest of that light level on the DSLite.
If you want to truly compare, it is 14 vs 19. Still not great, but not near as bad.

SD Card slot? I smell an easier way to get homebrew on a DS
