Ó

youresam and realn0whereman from our forums have released a really nifty utility. It allows you to track your PSP online. What it basically does is email to a specified address every time it is connected to a PC. The keyword is *every time*. So even if you're connecting your PSP, it will still send the mail. Nothing to worry though, it can be very useful if your PSP is stolen.

Just specify your email address by right-clicking on the index.html file and editing it in Notepad. I put my own email address in there. Keep the rest as it is. So if your email address is no-follow@nobody.com, this is how the index.html file should look.

Edited file in Notepad

Now just paste both the files in the root of the Memory Stick. And by the way, root of the Memory Stick is not the MP_ROOT folder. It's the drive which you open in 'My Computer' or 'Windows Explorer'. Just paste it there. Not inside any folder.

Now the next time you connect your PSP to your PC, check your mailbox to test it. You should receive an email, something like this.

Email

I've censored my IP address here. And I know it's kinda boring to get these messages all the time. But I'm sure you'll find it useful. Once you get the IP address, either try to trace it yourself using any traceroute utility on the internet, or report it to your local law enforcement agency.

people are paranoid these days.

 » Wow

Very very clever idea. The only problem I see is that if the person takes the memory stick out of the psp. Will it work if those files are on my mem stick duo but its being read by a regular card reader?

   by LordDragon - 2006-05-29
 » Pretty cool

Gonna download it.Keep a death grip on both my PSPs though(1.5 & 2.7)

   by mikekearn - 2006-05-29
 » Sounds interesting

I don't know how useful it actually is, but I want to get it just to test it, and play around with it. Might be fun, next time my friend asks me to put music on his system if I also add this....heheheh...

 » the way it works

the way it works is that anytime the memory is connected to a computer so it wont matter if its a psp or memory card read. Either way it will launch the index.html which goes to the guys website and sends the email.

 » Worked for me

I downloaded this, put it on my mem stick and then took my mem stick out of my card reader. When I reinserted the stick, i checked my email. Nothing happened. But sure enough, a few minutes later i got an email from "Nobody" with the subject saying "I stole your psp" lol. The funny part was when I used an IP locator on my IP adress. I tried two different IP locators and both of them said my IP was from some street in georgia.(even gave an exact address.) Funny cuz I live in Florida.

 » Nice app

cool, sounds good, pretty useful

   by RaiderX - 2006-05-29
 » only problem is...

what if they remove the mem stick? or format it. I stole a mem stick form a kid and formatted it before I even connected it to the computer, most liekley, this is what anyone will do. So I dont think this will always work, but its pretty cool

» Can't get it to work

Hmmm... nice idea. But I can only get it to work if I manualy click on index.htm, it doesn't autorun.

   by Fat_Mike (Unregistered) - 2006-05-30
 » It work now

It started working for some reason. But that thing should work with any mass storage device, like my ipod. This is a great idea.

 » Great idea

This is a great idea!!!! I think I might stick this on my mp3 player

   by nobody (Unregistered) - 2006-05-30
 » what if

what if the person who stole it doesnt have the internet. Anyway its a great idea and if this works for ipods and mp3 players and all of them too, u will probably be a millionaire in a few weeks

 » nice harvesting

in case you haven't noticed, the meta refresh points to someone else's website, utilising a php script to send you an email..

This reeks like harvesting to me (paranoia mode), besides, when someone changes the memorystick, or just formats it.... you're still toast.

   by DiabloTerrorGF - 2006-05-30
» Keep pimptastic homebrew on it.

they won't format it if you have pimp homebrew left on it. Can't you also set that html as your homepage so when people try to use the browser it will send it as well? I don't have a 2.00+ PSP, I know you can do this in Links 2 though.

 » foul play

by Great program (Unregistered) - 2006-05-30
 » So i have I question..

I'l edit the index file, then just putting it on the mem stick and everytime the usb connects it'l send the email?
And if the memstick is not connected to the psp?

Anyway, I will try this when my girlfriend return my psp to ME!

by nice idea, will never work (Unregistered) - 2006-05-30
» nice idea, will never work

Even if you have you ip address dont expect any isp's to hand out any address or contact information for said person! All i see this doing is annoying the victim further by letting them know each time the psp is used!

   by fuerio (Unregistered) - 2006-05-30
 » nice one..

very cool idea, but honestly most of the people i know with psp's do not connect them to their computer AT ALL they just play their umd's... but regardless i think i will be putting this on mine it's better than nothing.

   by billy (Unregistered) - 2006-05-30
 » cool, but..

the odds of any law enforcement agency actually acting on this are slim. look how much trouble the record and software industries went through getting customer details from isps.

   by Devin923 (Unregistered) - 2006-05-30
» Wish this was out earlier...

Ive had 2 of my PSPs stolen in the past year and i really wish this was out then so i could kick their ass.

 » This is Spam

If your Psp gets stolen, not only will you have to cope with the loss but your Psp will also spam you every now and then when ever the theif uses it online. Each time you will be reminded of your loss and knowing that someone else is enjoying it when you receive the email spam. What will happen with this is advertising people will start using it to spam you adverts instead.

This homebrew is the future of Psp AD spam!!

   by TsColin - 2006-05-30
 » Looks very useful

even if your psp isnt stolen you can put it on any storage device like Fat_Mike said. So this is pretty useful in some cases.

» No hassle if you know a cop...or better yet are one!

I love this piece of homebrew! I run an ebusiness and keep my psp w/ me all the time for web access. And since I AM a cop, obtaining a warrant for an ip address in the event of a theft would be no harder than brushing my teeth! My advice ...in the event of theft find a sympathetic psp toting cop!

 » RaiderX...

I'm disappointed in you.

   by TsColin - 2006-05-30
 » One more thing

you need to make it so the if the person gets on the internet it will send the email. It will only send the email if the person opens the index file. You could make your homepage on your psp the index file by typeing file:/index.htm that way if they do get on the internet the first time it will track them. Try that out.
