New WipEout for PSP and PS3 says Develop magazine

Wipeout or WipEout was a fun racing game from Psygnosis. This futuristic anti-gravity racing game brought joy to the PSOne, the Sega Saturn, and the MS-DOS PC (who's old enough to remember MS-DOS?). Now it's confirmed. It really is coming to the PS3.

WipEout's developer Psygnosis became part of Sony in 1993. And now an article on SCEE Liverpool Studio in Issue 69 of Develop magazine (the monthly magazine for game programmers, artists, musicians, and producers) confirms that in addition to making WipEout for the PSP, they're making WipEout for the PS3 too. That's good news for PSP owners who enjoyed Wipeout Pure and for all of you who want more after getting WipEout from the PlayStation Store.

The PS3 version will probably use the SIXAXIS motion sensing and have online multiplayer and downloadable content.

That's great news. WipEout was exhilarating back in the 90s. Imagine what it's going to be like on the big mean machine that is the PS3. It's sure to be faster and more thrilling - and it's going to have to look a lot better. Yes, we often say that graphics aren't that important, but they are still somewhat important - better graphics often lend a feeling of greater depth and realism (leading to a better gameplay experience and more vertiginous feelings of speed and motion).

And commenter Cyclonis (Unregistered), you said in our February 2006 article that "The day WipEout comes out is the day I buy a PS3." Well you better start saving up your money!

I'm a wipeout freak but i was dissapointed to find out that wipeout pure on the psp only had ad-hoc mode which my router can not suport so please bring on the infastursture mode and a central server for the next title.

This game would be awesome if I had some actual humans to play against. Online multiplayer with voice chat would be awesome.
Imagine... Your playing WipEout and someone passes you. You think HA! then you bring out your plasma and blow them up :) That would be a ton of fun!

...is a blast. If you haven't tried it out yet, you just HAVE to. You can also play over the internet even when the game itself does not have that integrated. It's possible with the software "Xlink Kai". Give it a try!!

And to the news: this game will rock. And it will be the reason to buy a PS3 for me, too.

It's great to hear that a new Wipeout game for the PS3 and PSP are in development. I really enjoyed Pure on the PSP and it's still the best PSP game out there. I wonder if these game will have PSP to PS3 connectivity? It would be great to see what kind of things they can pull of with both systems. Anyways, I can't wait for either of them.
