Strip away... - Image 1Strip away... - Image 2

Because we don't want some of you guys to void your PS3 warranty, we're going to do you all a favor today. For a while, nevermind pics of booting up the PS3, never mind the HDD drive. We've seen enough of those for now. What about the innards of the console itself? This is just way beyond hardware porn already. This is like blasphemy. Mutilation and dismemberment. I feel faint every time I see these pics.

Some of you guys might be able to stomach this though. It shows most of the PS3's vital organs and displays them for the whole world to see. See the above pics, that's what happens when you attempt opening your system up. The warning label, once stripped away, will show up the condemning "VOID."

Below are the inner hardware of the console: the opened chassis, the BD drive, wireless LAN base plate, and internal power. There's heat sinks, a cooling fan, and both sides of the motherboard. And then you have the chips. The EE+GS chip, which seems to be the one used to process PS2 games. Then there's the CELL processor, and of course, the RSX chip (the pic with the four black chips surrounding a diamond pad is what's under the RSX metal plate).

Thanks to z3r01 for tipping us off! So, without further ado, let the strip tease begin. To avoid a void, just click on the pic below. It's now time to enter WARRANTY VOID territory:

the chip with the 4 chips around it is the RSX chip just with the cover taken off, if you look at the board surrounding the chip you can c the same transistors and lil pieces around it

Looks pretty awsome! The CELL, RSX, and EE all lookin realy nice :D Another kewl detail is: heatpipes :D It's got an overall high-end feeling to it, very good... :>

yeah the heatpipes are a good addition, asus has been using heatpipes in alot of there videocards which greatly reduces the heat from a card, youll also notice that the cards that use heatpipes dont need fans cause of the drastic decrease in heat.....tho i wonder how much more heat loss there would be with fans.

well theres my 3 cents

There is no "drastic decrease" in heat, and it does require fans. Heatpipes efficiently bring heat to the heatsink and fan is all. If you look above, the heatpipe assembly fits onto a fan in the ps3. You cant break the laws of energy conservation

(Which is the bottom right picture in the big group there...)

It's a picture of the PS3's top cover with the top part removed. Do you think that it means it's replaceable? Meaning if we buy the 20gb version, we can somehow get a 60gb cover and switch?

Sweet!

 » nice heat solution

I saw a video of some japanese boys opening it and it is a hell to open indeed. Anyway, I love the idea to transfer all the heat from the cpu and the GPU to one same heatsink trough heatpipes and then to the outside via coolers. It seems that the hole system works like a huge dissipator. I hope it doesent bring any problems to the Blu-Ray drive.
