Netflix email (image from Joystiq) - Image 1

Movie-loving PS3 owners who took advantage of the recent PS3 support announcement from Netflix should go check their emails right now. Netflix has sent out a mass email saying that the streaming discs are shipping out today.

QJ reader Brandon (thanks dude!) sent us a tip about the news, also adding that there seems to be no indication of supply shortages as he only signed up last week but is still getting his disc tomorrow.

If you haven't signed up for the free streaming disc yet, you can do so here. This is the only way to get Netflix on your PS3 until Sony rolls out a proper XMB update next year.

 » Yes! Finally

I seen the email in my inbox for delivery on Friday! Great to have the disc but I hope they implement it into the PS3 interface somehow without having to use a disc soon.

 » Hey guys

Hey QJ, I was wondering if you got my tip about this around 9am this morning? Just curious because my name is not Brian?

» This is not the ONLY way...

You can use PlayOn to stream Netflix to PS3. http://www.themediamall.com/playon/

Right now, it cost $40, but it is a one-time fee. They also offer content CBS, Youtube, ESPN, CNN, and Revision3. And you can get plug-ins from other content providers like Spike and Cartoon Network.

My roommate and I have found this to be an awesome alternative until the Netflix discs started shipping. Of course native support of Netflix is most likely going to be better, but we think PlayOn has been pretty cool ***** for as long as we have been using it.
