The contest entries for the Neo Spring Coding Contest are still coming in. This time, PlayStation Portable homebrew developer danzel has released CTorrentPSP - a torrent client  for Sony's handheld console.

Coder danzel developed CTorrentPSP under custom firmware 3.90 M33-2 using PSPLINK and it's being run under 3.xx kernel. Take note, however, that firmware 1.5 isn't supported. But the developer says that if you want to, you can make it work on 1.5 if you use the code.

According to danzel, this is how to use the application:

  • Put .torrent file in torrents/ folder.
  • Run CTorrentPSP.
  • Choose the torrent to download.
  • Choose the Access point to connect to.
  • Wait for file to download.
  • Delete the resources/splash.png to get rid of the splash screen.
  • Quit.
The coder recommends that you read the README.PSP file that comes with the package for more details, including a list of controls and a list of bugs. As with all homebrew applications for your Sony PSP, kindly exercise caution when downloading and installing the software.

I don't know why you guys don't find this a big deal, haha, I find this huge and awesome. Thank you man, I've always wondered when this would come out, if it would.

This is just one more step to making the PSP do everything you could want on the go.

I mean if you download a torrent that has winrar archives in it, just use Filer to extract and move them to where you want.

Thanks again Danzel!

 » I strongly agree!

I think this program is a huge step forward in for us. I actually used this program today in conjunction with psp filer to get onto a torrent site and download an ebook which i was able to immediately read after quickly downloading on the psp all without the use of a pc.

Now, that's progress.

Thank You for making this program. Please continue to develop it's interface and such.

 » wow...

epic program is EPIC.

this changes face of the use of the psp for me.
i havent tried it out yet but it sounds fantastic.
to the other people that have tested it,
does it have any problems handling larger files?

I went to download a 900 MB file and it seemed to go just fine, if you read the readme that it comes with, he says that the program may stop with fast speeds, maybe above 60kbps, but I've yet to experience that problem, so that's good news.

» For me this is the clear winner

I hope the developer keep improving it, adding options like allow select which files to download within a torrent. Great program!

» Needless to say, this is freaking sweet.

I'll be using the physics room's T1 connection now. Torrents on the run... fun fun... FUN. (yes, that was lame)

However, was it a torrent client, or a passkey cracker that everyone said couldn't be done? I can't remember. I just know that this is BAD ASS EITHER WAY.

 » umm...

this is obviously very possible, although a wep/wpa cracker is illegal and pretty hard, considering wpa requires a dictionary and both require a semi-fast pc to do.its not hard to do,its just illegal.

 » Wont work

When i select my connection the program freezes

   Re: the Calamity - 2008-03-20
 » ya

this happens to me as well. but i think its just a bug with some t-files. i dl'd a 250 mb file and it worked jus fine. then i tried to dl a 1.2gb file and it freezes every time i get to connection state 3. so it will prolly be fixed in the next release
