Shigeru Miyamoto - Nintendo's pride and joy says the Wii to receive hardcore enhancements - Image 1The Nintendo Wii is more prominently known as the "kid's console." Childish, shabby visual games are always being picked on by the more mature players, despite the fact that such an innovative console has tapped the greater expanse of the gaming market which even includes non-gamers.

So when GamePro's Vicious Sid had an exclusive one-on-one with Nintendo's game dev legend, Shigeru Miyamoto, and asked exactly how the Wii could address "future hardcore gaming," he got this interesting response:

Well, right now I still look at the Wii's sensor bar and the "pointing" technology we've developed as something that I think is going to end up being very effective for the types of games that the hardcore gamers like to play. There are also other enhancements to the Wii interface and developments being planned that are going to really make games for hardcore players a lot more fun and interesting.

Whoa. Now that's an eye-opener if you ever did read one. Is the Nintendo Wii finally sidestepping from new generation to next generation? It'll be a surprise if this US$ 250 console actually taps both into the new, broader market and the core market, to become the first new-gen, next-gen console in history to have ever achieved such a feat. A Commodore 64 in the making, perhaps?

What Nintendo has up their sleeves for it, however, is unclear. Miyamoto wants people to understand that Nintendo is actually interested in networking, just not over-the-top network games that the world is full of nowadays. While the Wii can be a 24/7 machine for connecting your TV to the World Wide Web, could multiplayer actually be in Nintendo's mind in the near future?

Nintendo has seen the effect of the Nintendo Wii on the U.S. market, and never had thought that the console would reap such effects. Therefore, they could be aiming to adjust the Wii's target coverage to innovation and hardcore gameplay. This is definitely something to anticipate from the legend and the Japanese gaming giant.

Upgrade? So they're going to release a graphics update, HD capabilities, next-gen disc format, digital surround sound, and online play? Yeah right. Miyamoto can suck a *****. I hope he dies.

You are a retard. Wii does not have any form of high definition capabilties and is limited to Dolby Pro Logic ghetto surround sound. And what game currently has online play? What game has next-gen graphics? Please choke on my wang and die you *****ing baby.

There are tonnes of online games coming out, pokemon is already out.
Pay some respect to one of the men who made games what they are today, if it werent for him you wouldnt even have your ps3's, wii's or 360s (which I have all of and am loving it, the only people who participate in console wars are children under the age of 13 or people like you who are too poor to afford all the systems and flip burgers your whole life)
If it werent for miyamoto we might even be still playing our super nintendos.

 » Little Respect please

Hey, if it wasnt for Mr. Miyamoto Nintendo wouldnt have the sucess back in the days, meaning no Super Nintendo add-on called Playstation wouldve been produced. Again, meaning no "HD capabilities, next-gen disc format, digital surround sound, and online play" whatsoever, so whatever "Fanboy" you consider to be noob, remember, pay your respects to this master. He did in 20 years what you would never even dream of in your lifetime.

You know, you guys that are hatin...***** YOU!!

Miyamoto is awesome..I agree, you guys couldn't do anything he has done. He has made Gaming what it is today, I dont wanna hear Ohh, the 360 is kick ass, or PS3 is the best...Because those platforms werent even thought of...they weren't even in thir creators minds, at the time Nintendo was in its infancy. Now you haters back the ***** up. Or i'm gonna go Wii on your ass!
(give you a bloody nose, a broken TV and maybe make you a less of a man)

I'm a hardcore gamer, and I love my wii, I would be so happy if they did something for the hardcore market though, i'm starting to feel like I'm doing reviews because I've played so many mini game compilations lately...

OK, Wii is cool and all, I have one, great system and all that, Miyamoto, great man even though he ruined my childhood. But more importantly, where exactly does it say "upgrade" anywhere in that entire article

 » Update?

I really hope he means update... I remember an article in which a Nintendo spokesperson said the Wii has capabilities to produce full HD, and even have good looking graphics, but supposedly Nintendo wants to surprise us, so maybe we should be expecting an update?

» Since back in the day

I've had every nintendo system ever mad except the U Force and the Super scope 6 and been a fan ever since but now that I'm older (24) and have the wii I feel a little left out..There isn't a Great game on the wii for a hardcore gamer like myself..I know people will say Wario or Zelda (which is cool) but when I want to play a more realistic game there aren't any right now...I only own Wii Sport which in my opinion is the best game the Wii has which is also very sad..The friend code thing sucks and I don't have a game you can play online, the controls on any game get boring after so much repetition and honestly the graphics aren't that great even though I don't have an HDTV when I get one this year how will it look then? I don't think after all these year of changing the industry that nintendo really thinks about the consumer when making decision, besides the price but that just economics. I have blindly and proudly followed nintendo since I could pick up a controller but if they don't make some changes in the games they choose to make and port I fear nintendo has lost one of the most DIEHARD fans. Please nintendo make some games where the colors RED,BLUE,GREEN, and PINK aren't the characters jumpsuit or the color of there skin..Start making games that don't make us feel alienated if were not in middle school.

Yup, though you have to look into the future and see that Wii will have Metroid, Mario, Smash Bros Brawl, possibly GTA (i think was a discussion topic once). Just wait man...Just wait.

i thought only the PS3 had the next-gen disc format?
doesn't the 360 still only use DVDs?

it's funny that the older "hardcore gamer" hates the wii,yet all the games i played as a kid had less substance then even what wii sports has.

video games were bulit off casual gaming.
Other than RPGs what game today can't be completed in a day or two? Gears of War? 6 hours? just look at all the speedruns done on games.

and "next gen" graphics come at a high price.
playstation 2 looked horrible compared to xbox and gamecube so shouldn't they have sold better?
DS's graphics don't compare to the PSP,so which should sell better?

GTA has become Pokemon,it sells on the name and doesn't really add anything new.Nintendo 64 had the first GTA3 in body harvest,so why didn't everyone flock to the system?

   Re: Project D (Unregistered) - 2007-04-11
 » Clarification

The 360 is packaged with a standard DVD drive, but MS put out an external HD-DVD drive that connects to the system for HD-DVD format movies, so in a roundabout way it utilizes next-gen disc format, or rather it has the capability to.

my buddys buddys uncle works for take 2 and apparently nintendo and take 2 are developing a gta type mario game aiming for a t rating in the quote un-quote mario world! this is no lie im such an idiot for even posting this!

 » Credibility

Forgive me if I find little credibility in this claim as it not only contradicts all established history, but I am leery of anyone who doesn't utilize proper grammar and punctuation. This whole "bombshell" just looks suspect. But, of course, I'm only saying what others are thinking.
