can we sue for nyko having a faulty product causing our $400 product to go to waste ?
lol
I don't think so, they should just refund your money for your intercooler fan and if your xbox 360 is broken they should replace that with no charge.
They contradicted themselves big-time. Nyko's accessory takes from the power BEFORE the system gets it. The fan-stand takes from the power AFTER the system gets it. If the system has 'barely enough power' then ANY USB device would mess it up, but anything between it and the wall would be fine. The exact opposite of what they said.
In addition, it has been proven that vertical-standing units have MANY more problems than horizontal ones.
Having said that, the Nyko unit is a piece of ****. I had one. After a couple long playing sessions, it started to make noise. From then out, when I turned it on, it would make horrendous amounts of noise and the x360 would actually error and give a red light instead of booting. You could remove it, play with it a bit, and put it back on and it worked fine until next time you booted the system cold. Total ****. They DID offer to replace it if I'd ship it to them. Yeah, I'm going to pay $10-20 shipping on a $20 product for a 'free' replacement. Nice. No thanks, Nyko.
I recently bought an internal replacement fan that is supposed to work a lot better, but I haven't yet got the toolkit needed to open the box. So we'll see if I'm wasting $400 or not on this, considering it'll void my warranty.
your 100% correct about the power issue that anything before the console would not effect the supply of the console itself, but the warranty on the 360 is 90 days anyway so unless ya just bought it thats not an issue
I disagree. The X360 power brick is designed to feed the console with electricity it needs. If there`s an accessorie using some power, then the power brick acts. And if there`s none, then it reacts. IMO this niko fan can indeed mess up this flow....
intercooler fan is a piece of well you know what. I had mine for about three months then bam!! it starts making a Reeeeee noise. then I have to turn it off and on to make it work. I trying to decide whether to put in some whisper fans or a fan stand but I'm not sure that would work very well. but like you I don't know if I want to void my warranty but I have a computer technition (i am not sure how to spell it) as a friend so I think I am in better hands then you.
@WC: Don't do it!
If the 360 can't function without a cooling device there is something wrong with it. Get it fixed from Microsoft, even if you have to pay $140,.... Cooling units might temporarily fix the problem, but in the long run will only make things worse and it will die eventually.
I had a launch 360 and had no problems until some of the new games came out that utilize a lot of proc power (DR, Sts Row, Test Drive). My 360 started to freeze and I found myself in the same situation as you. I got the pelican vertical stand fan hoping it would cool it down some and it hardly worked... so i ripped it open took the little usb fan out and taped it directly to the back of the unit to draw out more hot air. I then even taped another usb fan next to it, essentially having some fans stuck on the back like the nyko.
Now, this made my system work for bursts of gameplay, but there was something very wrong inside my box. The problem only got worse, all the way to the point where the box would not even boot. I finally complained and complained and MS finally changed their policy to "repair" (replace) my 360 for free.
By the time I returned my box the back vent was all yellow and distorted from too much heat output. Neat huh! Almost suprized it didnt start a fire!
Bottom line: if you 360 is freezing up, fans are only a temporary solution, don't use em. Get your 360 replaced / repaired.
*****, I just ordered one of thes and it arrived today. Too bad I don't have an xbox to try it on as it is currently being repaired after getting THE RED ARC OF DEATH. I bought it to hopefully stop my xbox overheating and breaking again. Talk about a Catch 22.
hey i had the three blinking red lights of death all i did was unplug everything and mean everything from the xbox the wall, tv and the harddrive if you have one I plugged everthing back in and I haven't had a problem since and that has been three months ohh and I'm also on my fourth xbox 360
for me. I had a launch unit, it froze now and then, until it gave me the ring of death. Now I have a brand new console with nyko intercooler installed. Absolutely no problems at all, I hasn't frozen a single time, not even with dead rising or prey (those froze quite often). I think microsoft should make adequate coolers themselves, or at least consoles that don't heat up that much. It's easy to put nyko as a scapegoat, even though it's their system that is failing with or without the intercooler.
i've had a launch console...never used nyko...only has frozen a couple of times. no probs.
Is that the intercooler come between the console and the main power source. Durring boot up you can bet that the USB devices aren't initialized until just before the XMB loads up. However, the intercooler is not on the USB hub and cannot be controlled by the USB controller, and can in theory take as much power from the 360 as it wants, since it gets it's power first, then the 360.....get it ?
You idiots!
You got your 360 replaced and you still think you need an intercooler. The reason the thing is overheating is the problem, fans ARE ONLY A TEMPORARY SOLUTION!
lol, some people are just made for special ed.
DO NOT USE A FAN. THE CONSOLE SHOULD WORK FINE ON ITS OWN OR REPLACE IT.
Duh, freekin tards.
I had one of those intercoolers and the plastic was MELTING after a few week of use I DONT RECOMENDED and I know 2 people with the same problem .
DONT BUY IT!!!!!!!!
meaning that it regulates the power source into the 360. power regulators are current dependent sources, since power = I^2 * R the higher the resistance the more power dissipated by the load therefore the regulator will output more current. therefore as long as the power regulator is functioning properly the 360 will always get an adequate amount of power as long as the load is not oversaturating. so your safe to use the fan, but that melting issue is a bit of a worry anyway.
You know this how, sure that may be an overall rule in power regulators, but nowhere does it say the powerbrick functions on such a level.
I'd listen to the people that built the machine. MS did not plan on having to worying about aynthing comming between the powersupply and the 360, so why would they put extra work into regulating it at that level ? They knew any periphreals they released would be on the USB hub, so there would be no need to regulate it at the powerbrick level...
3rd party periphreals are 3rd party for a reason, cause they do whatever the hell they want as long as it works 5 out of 8 times and is acceptable to realease to the public....hence why I dont buy 3rd party *****
MY friend has one of these pieces of sh*t, it's loud as f*ck. Why anybody would want one is beyond me. You don't even need it, my console is vertical and not one problem since launch, some people are just unlucky or they're dumb and put it in an AV stand.
yeah this product is a peace of *****. The one i bought broke after about a week of using it.
i have had one on my xbox for about 3 months with no problems. Its frozen a couple times but thats happening to people with no mods whatsoever. I once got the ring of death and then I looked at the back and realize I forgot to plug in the a/v :)
No problems here.
hahahahahahahahahahahahahaha how could you forget to plug in the a/v cable you idiot
i HAD a launch 360, but between saints rown and TDU i only could play for like 30 minutes at a time before it overheated, i sent it to microsoft and guess what, they fix it for free, send me a new one(atleast i assume it was new, it didnt have the gunk mine had on the dvd tray and all of the lil rubber feet are there now) and i still had it overheat. i stuck the nyko thing on there, i dont notice the noise because i dont hump it while playing with my volume off, and no overheating problems yet. i have no complaints....
I bought a 4in cooling fan at Radio Shack and mounted it in my entertainment center so it blows out the back. Never had any overheating problems and I just plug it into AC. It used to get pretty hot in there but no more.
i have one of those power brick peaces of ***** things 2 and mine actually made my xbox 360 motherboerd get pushed further in so the retarded thing doesnt work anymore which is great on the count of its not killing my 360 which i find works even better without it but i paid 20 $$ for the thing now i gotta trow it in the trash :S oh well so be it Keep that ***** away from your 360 its like oil and water they arent mixing
Before buying the NYKO intercooler, I was having freeze up issues with the my 2nd 360 after many hours of continued playing, (Note: first 360 console replaced by MS after freeze and failure and no intercooler) and now after placing the intercooler on this unit, for several months now, I have had many uninterupted hours of game playwith no glitches. My NYKO intercooler must be a newer version, because it has no manual switch.
Yes the fans are noticably louder, but easily drownded out by a louder surround sound system.
This intercooler from NYKO is excellent and i do not believe it robs the system of its power. But....its got a stupid plug in the back...that if its not connected all the way...will.... in the long run spike the consoles power, causing it to show the red light. Ive never had more than one red light show at a time. The breakdown: The fan makes a loud grind noise {not the regular whirring noise} if its coming disconnected. So all in all its fairly easy to detect when the fan is coming undone. THE SOLUTION: to disconnect the plug from the fan and the fan from the console. after blowing out the fan and RE-SECURING the fan it will be fine. The red light happens once a week usually; but its a small price to pay especially when you have to wait for many weeks for a new one!
