Microsoft outlines Xbox Live Dashboard details - Image 1

Instead of directly answering whether or not the rumored November release date for the New Xbox Live Experience is true, Microsoft instead side-stepped and said that it will have a global release before the end of the year. Well there are only three months left to it, so it goes that it will be released on November. Give or take a month.

According to Xbox Live's senior product manager, Andrew Jenkins, the update will have a global release not only through Xbox Live, but through game discs as well. The latest games will contain the Dashboard update and will be installed on your console automatically, if it hasn't done so yet:

On the date we release it, it will be a global message to update the console and if you don’t do it through our connected service, you will be able to do it on disc, so when you buy the latest Gears of War, or whatever game purchased after the release of the Dash it will have the new Dashboard in the disc and it will automatically update your Xbox.

Wasn't the new dashboard update supposed to be optional according to Microsoft. Now its like super mandatory making you have to update in order to even play the new games somewhat like how the PSP is but no way to get around it.

 » Erm...

They never said it would be an optional update. What they said was that if you'd rather use the blade system you can press the guide button and the old system will be available there.

 » Yep

Always has been mandatory. You can play games without it all you want, albeit offline. You must download the update to connect to Live.

Like Mallrat said, the new Guide looks just like the current Dash. If you hate the new Dash, just press Guide when you turn the box on.
