Metal Gear Anniversary - Image 1While PS3 fans are busy waiting for the last installment of Metal Gear Solid games to come out, Konami threw a Metal Gear 20th Anniversary Party in Tokyo Midtown Japan, where Hideo Kojima and crew gave never-before-seen footage of Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots and Metal Gear Portable Ops +, and reminisced mostly about the good ol' times of Metal Gear Solid and its many sequels. IGN had one of its agents infiltrate the event with tactical espionage, and gave dibs of valuable information from the ground-breaking party.

A new game has also been announced for the PlayStation Portable (PSP): Metal Gear Solid 2 Bande Dessinee. This will feature full voice acting (awesome!) as well as an advanced digital comic. Some digital merchandise are introduced too, including the Metal Gear Solid Collection and Metal Gear Music Collection. Not much details were given, but we'll find out soon enough.

Finally, we get to the meat of the event: the real-time Metal Gear Solid 4 trailer. Some new tricks up Snake's body-fitting sleeve are shown, such as a statue-cam camouflage which makes him look like a statue.

Cardboard box, you've found your match: Kojima shows how Snake conceals himself inside a drum can, and even knock out enemies while rolling the drum can - with Snake inside - not unlike a bowling ball knocking down a set of pins.

Hilarious? Wait until you see Snake emerge out of the can dizzy, nauseous, and vomiting. He then manages to make himself feel better by reading a gravure idol magazine (a magazine filled with scantily-clad females). And as if a tribute to Sesame Street's Grouch, Snake is shown in the demo hiding in a garbage bin while he snipes at his enemies.

Epic enough? Yes, but wait till you hear this: Snake is shown using Otacon's Mark II to bring doom and destruction upon hapless enemy soldiers, and Snake controls the Mark II using a SIXAXIS controller while he hides behind a car.

Now with that much info about Metal Gear Solid 4, we can't help but bite our fingernails while waiting for the game to be launched. Yes, it's very hard to wait, but we'll have to deal with it.

Konami also gave a demo of Metal Gear Online. Basically, Metal Gear Online is a highly advanced hide-and-seek game that can be played by up to 6 people, divided into two groups. Players can see their allies even behind walls to help them coordinate with each other, and when then manage to kill an enemy, players can tap into the enemy's information system to see where their opponents are. Details about the beta were also revealed during the party.

Finally (for part 1 of the Metal Gear 20th Anniversary party, at least), Kojima announced a Metal Gear Solid game for mobile phones. The game will be set in Metal Gear Solid 3, and will be included in a Sony Ericsson mobile phone.

Whew! That's too much information in one sitting, but there's still a lot more once we get out hands on other details as well as a scoop on what happened during the second part of the Metal Gear Anniversary party, so stay tuned!

 » MGS for PSP

I'm dissapointed that the new "MGS" for psp is only going to be a crappy digital graphic novel.

Can't they make a proper one like portable ops.
