Destructoid's got a list of their favourite game levels of all time. Ah, game levels, those special sequences or areas in a game that get your palms sweaty, yourself sitting instead of slouching, and your attention fully focused (or in the case of horror games terrified off) on the task at hand.

Anyway, their list features levels from games of many different genres and many different platforms. We read through the list, and a particular stand out level there was Ravenholm from Half Life 2, so that got us thinking a bit. Since this is a PC gaming blog, we'll do a short top 3 list of our favourite levels on PC games. That would be nice right?

We're keeping it at three, mainly so it stays brief, but also so that there's more room for you guys to start pitching in your list of favourites.

Here be the stages we like:

pop culture, porn, and New Reno

3. New Reno: Fallout 2
Junkies, Mafia men, porn production studios, a fight to the death boxing ring, contesting mob families, what more could you want from a post apocalyptic sci-fi RPG stage? Only in New Reno can you become a porn star. Only in New Reno can you sleep with a mob boss' daughter, not get caught, steal from their vault, and then sleep with the daughter's mother. Much fun.

on the way to the Sith Academy

2. Korriban: Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic
And you thought being a Sith was all bout being bad-ass or being sneaky. Korriban shows you that there's actually a nice sense of spirituality to the dark side of the force.

Such a lovable bloke isn't he?

1. Ravenholm Half-Life 2
We find the stage so good that we had to mention it as an example in the opening paragraphs. This stage is notable for subtly and suddenly shifting the action based, battle against machines and living troops, sci-fi-esque first stages of Half-Life into horror mode. Being one of the first few areas where you actually get to enjoy the Gravity Gun and appreciate the importance of ambient light, this stage is definitely hard to beat.

That crazy guy with the shot gun helped too.

Now that we've said what we like, what are your fave pc game stages? Feel free to comment.

I gotta say, I loved the Rubacava section of Grim Fandango (Second Year). The setting, the music, the characters......a fantastic "level" in a fantastic game!
