Akai MPC500

Our busy lives cause us to do bad things like eat on the go, listen to music on the go, play games on the go. It seems that we don't have enough time to simply do things the old fashioned way anymore, everything has to be mobile; and it appears that Akai have twigged on to this and created the Akai professional Music Production Center (MPC) 500. This device allows you to make music on the go with it's lightweight battery-operated frame and easy-to-use controls for professionals and newbies alike.

The MPC500 comes equipped with  a microphone and a set of headphones (which any on the go music producer could never go without) and, along with the main unit of course, fits into the average backpack with room to spare - a dream come true for part-time musicians on the go. Don't be fooled by the portability of this device though - it still packs a musical punch.

The MPC500 features 32 voice drum/phrase sampler, a 48 track MIDI sequencer, twelve of the classic MPC pads, switchable line/mic level analog I/O and MIDI I/O. We're slightly baffled by the technical language but we're sure the musical amongst you should understand the technical terms. Now back to the things we do understand, the MPC500 will solider on for a total 4.5 hours on 6 AA batteries, so those old rechargeable AA batteries that you never seem to use can be put to use again. The Akai MPC500 has an RRP of $1,299, but it has been spotted for cheaper at some retailers.
