A Taiwanese forum page has been discussing the results of replacing an Intel Mac mini’s standard Core Duo chip with a Core 2 Duo chip (the 2.16GHz Merom T740) that is slated to be released on August 2006. The benchmarks are pretty reliable and they don't lie - although the tinkered-on MacMini did not recognize that someone did a "brain surgery" on it (click on the left thumbprint), when it is compared to both a dual 1.8GHz G5 and a dual 2.5GHz G5 (right thumbprint below), the Merom-running MacMini beats them both in an iTunes MP3 to AAC conversion despite the mini’s slower hard drive.

To sum it all up, the results are very innovative and promising. Upgrading Apple CPUs have become revolutionary if this would be believed, since this generation Core 2 Duo chips actually generate less heat than the current generation, upgrading these new Intel Macs may be the easiest CPU upgrade in Apple’s history.
