Brown Zune - Image 1In an impressive show of self-deprecating humor, an article listing "The Ugliest Products in Tech History" has included Microsoft's own brown Zune, which didn't do well in its quest to topple the iPod from its pedestal as the hottest portable music player.

The article pokes squarely at one of the Zune's colors: the brown Zune. The brown music player is reported to be (in)famous; it even spawned a mock website which sells Zune casings for their iPods as ultimate iPod anti-theft devices (because who would steal a Zune?).

So far, according to the PC World article posted in MSN, the idea of a Zune casing as an actual anti-theft device was so appealing, people actually wanted to buy one for their iPods.

 » It's not that bad.

The Zune is not perfect, but it's far from ugly, my only gripe with it is the size.

» No... really the first zune was ugly...

but I loved the software... it was my favorite mp3 too... is just a size problem... to fat... I'm in love with the new one and the new zune player software will be great too... just that they would add it a new feature that let everyone jaw dropping but maybe with a update who knows... now the new zune replaced the plastic screen with actual glass. On a hardness scale of 1-10 where 10 is a diamond and 1 is an iPod, glass is 5.5. and the video out now upscale resolution of 720x576 maximum

But that was only when it said Zune. After reading the thing, and seeing it said specifically the brown version, I can't help but agree.

The black version looks great, white isn't too bad either, but brown really was a bad colour choice.

But what I don't get is, what's with the people above complaining about the size? Have you all got dwarfism or something? It's not that big. It's slightly thicker than a video iPod, unless you're using the huge plastic case thing for it.

(Anyone complains about my spelling of colour, I'm going to hunt you down and stab you. I'm from the UK. I use the proper version of the language, it's colour, not color. What have you guys got against the u!?)

» don't worry about complaints with me...

I'm latin... Puertorrican indeed... not from uk, not from US either... anyway... for me the 3 versions was ugly... the most I liked was the white. Yes isn't so thick, but people these days don't want more thick than the ipod.. anyway the zune team deserve the comparasion, they was the ones who says it will be the ipod killer... even the new one is more thicker that the 80gb ipod but by some cm, not big deal... I will buy the new one but maybe I will wait to see more colours** to come

I find it funny that MSN (Microsoft) is calling one of their own products ugly
