A NEXT METAL GEAR IS... - Image 1

Oooh, what a tease. Konami Japan's just put up a site with a flashing message. It alternates between their logo and the image you see above: "A next Metal Gear is..." There seems to be a bit of Engrish there, but one startling bit (yeah, man, I can feel a red exclamation mark pop above my head now...) is that the little equation they have there is giving off some Xbox 360 vibe.

That's how most people think of it, at least. Current speculation holds that this "next Metal Gear," a.k.a. "MGS5", just might get a release on the Xbox 360. Or... Maybe it's going to be released exclusively for the 360? Who knows? For all we know... it could be released across various consoles and handhelds.

Konami's keeping mum on the matter, playing the "we don't comment on rumor and speculation" card. For now, the only fact is that Konami's put up that teaser site. Any speculation you might draw out from it is still just that: speculation. Bah. Can't wait for TGS 2009!

Big thanks to Andy C for the tip!

There aren't going to be any more "solid" titles in Metal Gear, so we'll probably see something like MG Raiden or something.

Lol, MG Raiden

the URL of the Konami site says MGST.

My guess is it's just a placeholder. Like Metal Gear Solid Teaser or something.

Some people actually thought MGST in the URL is actually that Metal Gear Solid Triology or something that surfaced at NeoGAF some time ago. LOL that was a hoot! Haha! Some people actually think the Triology was real?!

this is really sad, i see a lot of limitations on this metal gear if it is an xbox version thereby holding back a subtitute ps3 version, considering the lastest one was a dual layer blu ray. Lower quality :s :@ wonder how much MS is paying them :p

well just have to wait and see i guess

yeah, right, liek that would ever happen. Hideo kojima wasn't even satisfied with 50 GB, how the hell should he working with 8,5 GB discs?
In the Playstation One Era that was no porblem, because license fees for more discs were cheap, but license fees for Xbox 360 costs a lot of money, that's why many developers choose to fit the game on just one disc.

my god that would be horrible.

First, you have to get off your fat ass.
Second, you have to WALK up to 10 feet to get to the console.
Then, you have to press a button, remove the disc, put it away, find the next disc, put it in the tray AND press the button again.
Now, you have to WALK back to the indentation on the sofa cushion and sit your fat ass back there.

for gods sake, just cos its green and round automatically makes people think 360, does it not occurr to anyone that 1, That is a power icon, she same icon that's been in use before the 360 was invented. Also, Green is a common colour that is generally used to determine that something it indeed Working/SwitchedOn/Ok/Operational.

God, i bet it'd've been a different story if it was the same thing with a red circle eh?.. the micro$oft fanboys would be screaming.

 » Okay...

Even though that symbol is universally used as the "Power/On" icon...
I doubt it's talking about a 360 version...let me shed some light as to what I interpret it as...
i+!=O
i-The i in the symbol, though it could just be an I, looks like it's extremely close to the same font used for the i's in the Wii Logo.
!-Just the metal gear icon...whatever.
The O/Power Symbol- Also looks like the Metal gear icon with a looping circle...which may depict motion...a swinging motion in front of the !...

I see this as sort of a Metal Gear Spinoff for the Wii, not necessarily pertaining to the original series...but Snake was in SSBB, so we know that Konami doesn't mind Nintendo...I view it as a spinoff though. I could see a Metal Gear spin off incorporating the Wii mote's motion sensing/swinging...which could be incorporated for a Raiden spin off with his sword...

Also if they made a new Metal Gear for the 360 I HIGHLY doubt it would be exclusive, especially since Konami/Kojima Productions has proved adept at using the PS3 system tools really well...so why the hell would they make it exclusively for 360? If they do make a Metal Gear in the future for the 360 it sure as hell won't be an exclusive...especially since MGS4 a *****load on the PS3.

   Re: thefinalhero - 2008-12-05
» This is just my oppinion..

I'll look forward to it either way.
Even as a die hard Final Fantasy fan I think MGS4 trumped it in story. I have put a lot of time in MGS4 and MGO and have not felt a more enjoyable experience from any other game I've ever played...I was actually emotionally moved during the last hour of play (when fighting Liquid/Going through the radiation tunnel) and epilogue.
My Wii has been sort of sitting and collecting dust seeings how I haven't used it lately (*Can sense the chuckles from other QJ users*), and a Metal Gear game may make me use it again, I haven't touched it since Brawl. Still hoping they go through with Dead Rising for it, though I'll be getting a 360 during the holidays, so I'll probably just get it for that.

 » Hints 360 vibe?

Why because it's green? I mean I could kind of see it if the power logo were red (yeah it's a universal power logo and Microsoft didn't invent the color green). If anything it seems like Metal Gear Ac!d for the iphone.

The i & ! is basically a giveaway that it's the iphone and Ac!d. Plus MGS4 had a few Apple products in it and more and more people are making games for the iphone for some reason. Plus the URL also has "mgst" in it which I think stands for Metal Gear Solid Touch (or even Teliko who was a character from the Ac!d game).

I don't think a 360 game is likely unless Konami is looking to make a mediocre flop of a game.

» sorry to burst your bubble, but..

Not trying to be pessimistic because I know a lot of 360 fans don't want to buy a PS3 just to play MGS4, but...seriously. Just because it's green and shaped remotely like the 360's Ring of Light, you equate that to the 360? Come on man. Kojima wanted more than 50gb, I know he wouldn't limit the next game and just release it across multiple discs.

   Re: NarooN - 2008-12-05
 » one more thing.

That icon to the right is widely used as the "power button" icon.

As others have said, the exclamation mark is a reference to either the classic trademark or Metal Gear Ac!d. It could be a MGA game coming to DS, PSP, PSN, XBlive Arcade, or more, or anything.

Could also be a whole new spinoff that's not quite as big as MGS4 coming to the 360 exclusively. It could be a number of things. It'd be great for us all to just wait for more hints before we get hyped up to hell over one teaser image.

Re: Gino D. (QJ. NET Staff) - 2008-12-06
 » Hmm...

Definitely appreciate your thoughts, man.

But it's strange, yknow. I get the feeling that most people here seem to think that the "Xbox 360 vibe" thing was my idea. I may be getting mixed signals here, but it seems to me like most comments are directed at me. ;-)

Now I never really was one to explain myself - much less, repeat myself - but I do have to point out what I said in the article...

"...is giving off some Xbox 360 vibe.

"That's how most people think of it, at least. Current speculation holds that..."

If you go online, most other websites report it as thus. Lots of talk in online forums and threads echo the same thing. It seems that the first impression (most often wrong, of course) is that it does have a a feeling of 360-ness more than anything else. Again, that's the first impression most people have.

If other people have other kinds of first impressions, then so be it. That's theirs and it's cool. Everyone's entitled to their own. It's nice to see QJ readers are on top of things too. Love the variety of ideas that have surfaced in these comments. Lots of similar things, but still different. ;-)

As for myself, here's what I think. My first impression of the "i" looks like the Wii logo's font. Equally, the "i" can also stand for iPhone. But that's if you're talking platform releases. It could mean so many different things depending on what perspective you're coming from. There isn't any info whatsoever that the teaser is hinting at a platform to begin with. (oooh, the plot thickens) -_-;;

The exclamation mark seems like it's referring to AC!D; that line of thought is a sound one. But again, it could be referring to something else if you look at the equation from a diff perspective. It could simply be referring to the exclamation mark shown every time a guard spots you. (another thing I implied in the article) Hehe!

So yeah. It's really hard to speculate anything at this point since the facts are pretty much... inconclusive of anything. For all we know, maybe Konami's about to launch a new line of merchandise: Metal Gear toys. Which I definitely wouldn't mind having. Hehehehe! ^_^

 » k guyz,

these r the possible possibilities. first, mgs5 might come to 360, second... actually, u know what, there is an 75% chance that it might be a 360 exclusive or multi platform because, if u compare the 360's power button 2 this, they are alike. here are the images. 360 power button http://www.play-girlz.com/wp-content/uploads/2007/05/xbox-360-power-button.jpg , and the teaser http://ps3news.com/images/img_8376.jpg

following your logic MGS5 will be an exclusive for the left device on this picture :

» Why can't people accept this?!!!

I'm a little frustrated with this too but I'm not gonna deny that it is a possibility. By now everyone should have both or all 3 systems. It's been years since both came out so you could have saved money those 2-3 years by now. It's 800 bucks total for all three so stop fighting.

Here's my opinion on this. I think the fact that they are making another MGS title is stupid considering that the story is done. Unless this is a remake to MG then it's good. Of course I will still get this game. And if this comes out on 360 it's gonna be another game I wont have to buy and download instead so f*** you Konami.

   Re: NarooN - 2008-12-05
 » ..

No one is forced to buy all three systems. I'm not buying the other two systems when my brother already has a 360 Elite and I have no interest in the Wii. Why buy the systems? Just to "prove" im not a fanboy to strangers over the internet? ***** that.

Anyway, the "story" isn't done. Solid Snake's story is indeed done. Kojima himself stated that there are other things in the MG universe he'd like to see explored.

Sure, it's possible that whatever this title is - it could come to the 360, but there's no way it'll be the size of MGS4, for obvious reasons. M$ would pay for multiple discs and exclusivity, but I doubt Konami would even go down that route.

   Re: Datnizzle - 2008-12-06
» So what you're saying is...

Buy a 360 because you can just download the games for free? That's the best reason anyone has ever given me. I could use my PS3 for the games that I know I'll like, and use a 360 for non-online single player games I don't want to spend money on like Force Unleashed or that new Spiderman game. I'll have to consider that.

» Kojima won't pop a MGS on the xbox 360 (he hates it)

So there is two solutions:

1) It's not kojima who would make MGS something on the x360.

2)There is no MGS games coming on the x360.

This mean, if a MGS game pop on the x360, it's not kojima made, so I don't care. That's all.

   Re: PS34ME - 2008-12-07
 » woah there platon

you say kojima hates 360? when did he say that then? i know he always focuses on sony consoles but i also know he never said he hates 360. :)

yeah kojima wouldn't port mgs4 to 360 cause he never does ports himself, if it comes to 360, then it would be ported by another team at kojima, like they did with mgs2. but they may do a mgs game like they did for gc.

but you never know about a mgs game on 360. until this year we said the same about ffxiii, and we were wrong. personally i dont think mgs4 would happen on 360, but after ffxiii, i wouldnt be surprised anymore. so a mgs game could be true.

The power sign means its "on" as in "under development" it has nothing to do with 360, as over 20 people have already stated, just because its a green power symbol does NOT mean it will be on xbox, Kojima himself said he was not happy with the level MGS4 was at upon release and said he would be working closely with the team on the next Metal Gear. Think about it, why would he take backwards steps and make a game for an unfamiliar console?

A Metal Gear game on the 360 means a short campaign. Even the PS3 ran out of space with MGS4 and thats on Blu-Ray. I can not imagine how crappy Metal Gear will be on the 360.

   Re: PS34ME - 2008-12-07
» mgs4 had enough space on br

it ran out of space on 25gb bluray disc, so they put it on 50gb bluray and cause its a little bigger than 30gb is size, it had enough space.

so they could put it on 360 on multiple discs, 3 or 4 discs maybe. but thats expensive so it may not happen, but blue dragon was 3 disc so who knows.

if it went on 3-4 discs it wont be crappy, it could be as good as ps3 i think, except audio would be 5.1 max on 360.
