Sony's John Koller - Image 1The denials are getting stronger. First, it was a simple "no comment", then it was David Reeves. Today, it's John Koller firmly shaking his head at the circulating PSP2 rumors.

Says Koller, he is familiar with the rumor going around that Sony is cooking something up its sleeves, a PSP2 in particular. However, these rumors, according to him, are completely unfounded. Yes, there is something cooking up in their labs but it's definitely not a new handheld.

So what is it then? It is, in fact, Sony's strategy of pushing devs away from the UMD format, and towards digital distribution of games through the PlayStation Store. The PSP2 development was but a misinterpretation, he said.

We'll expect this rumor to keep breathing until it runs out of oxygen - that would be people's speculation. And as it is more likely that you guys won't believe what he said, they'll need another executive to deny once more the rumor in about a couple of weeks.

What fun, eh?

i doubt that they will actually call the next gen psp "psp-2" but man i want to see the next gen of psps to look like the ps3s, and with an extra analog stick too, and more shoulder buttons...., and more, more, more (i sound like that dude that was crying about britney [chris crocker? remember him?] :p )

Unless this is a PSP with an 80+ GB hard drive, that comes with a UMD drive that we leave at home that connects to the USB port to install old games, any and all PSPs need a UMD drive cause I'm not buying a PSP that won't play my 40 PSP games

 » i heard

that the psp2 will have bluetooth, l2 and r2 shoulder buttons, a 320 gig hard drive, 256 mb of ram, the ability to emulate the ps3, and a whopping 4 analogue sticks!!

» Sony screws up again :)

4 is too many analog sticks.
We only needed 2.
Sony never listens to us :)

If there is going to be a PSP2 with internal storage i think they might use a Solid State Disk drive, i don't know what sizes those come in or how big are they but it seems a more reasonable solution to the internal storage.

For now i just hope they do something about PSP3K's screen problem and hurry up with the PSP keyboard they promised us.

Maybe the PSP2 be released around the same time as the PS4. XD

 » Solid State?

Currently they cost way too much. Just look at the pricetag for one that works with the ps3......outrageous, and just to save a few seconds of loading ttime. Not worth it. Besides, Memory Sticks are going to be up to 32gb if they aren't already and the price on removable flash memory is dropping year after year. Maybe SSDD will drop in the future, but who knows how far.

 » Save a few Seconds?

No. It's to save all that weight. And It's not an outrageous price. It would be if you were trying to recreate your 120 gig iPod ... But sony could give us 32 gig + whatever we drop in ourselves.

Flash drives are expensive? Not for smaller capacity ones. Hell even 32gb flash drives are getting cheaper. Thanks to Apple pushing for higher flash drive capacities we'll be seeing them drop in price too.

But you know if the PSP2, or whatever the next leap will be called, doesn't have a flash drive then it has already crashed and burned.

I think it should be obvious to everyone though that the reason they're pushing devs away from UMDs and to digital distribution is in preparation for the PSP2, even though they may not currently have one in the works. Its about time they dropped the UMD.

could be a PSP2 but I suspect more of a slim PS3 or a PS3 redesign. It's been 2 years for the PS3, its about time Sony redesigned it. Maybe a redesign with B/C back in and new 65nm chips.

I prefer having UMDs too, and having a physical booklet rather than an E-book.

 » Built in hard drive???

That is lame because i always buy games and i dont want to worry about running out of space.
And I refuse to buy a bigger hard drive right after I bought the first one. That is stupid. Use your brains.
seriously exclude that feature we all ready know what it needs.
camera and video
2 analog
ability to play any online video
cell phone??? lol
NO TOUCH screen (c'mon seriously GTFO)
Better UMD's (look at what the CD turned into. its Blueray maybe well get a bigger stronger UMD)
Crystal clear screen no bleeding or scanlines
And make sure our joysticks dont mess up or our buttons failing on us. Mann I cant tell you how many people i know that experienced that.
ok its just me on this one. but i know its kinda pointless on the old psp's but on the new one maybe a keyboard.
oyea
bluetooth with headphones that come with it (no bundles) and if you want you can buy a different pair of headphones (with bass)
Wayyy better graphics (these are perfect tho)
Wayyyy better psn store (more everything times 10 or at least to compete with the ps3's store)

a internal hard drive + mem stick is the best combo. People are finally starting to realize that digital downloads aren't ripping you off of a cd and it also allows games to be sold cheeper. If you run out of space, just put the games you don't play on a DVD/External HD/computer HD. It would be run just like people who have hacked PSP's are doing it now.
I personally see the ability to use a ps3 controller in the PSP resistance game a merger into a 2 analog PSP.
