 During the PlayStation Day, Sony Computer Entertainment president Kaz Hirai did a lot of talking about none other than the PlayStation brand. One of his many interesting statements came when he explained his company's vision for the PlayStation 3, saying Sony's "competition is not Microsoft or Nintendo, but basically any form of entertainment that is competing for the consumers’ attention."Hirai defined the PS3, PS2, and PSP systems as entertainment platforms before citing the real challenge facing Sony's machines. "We need to make sure we offer the most compelling entertainment – not videogame entertainment but in entertainment in general," he said. Furthermore, SCE's head honcho expressed his confidence in the PlayStation's position on the gaming map. In particular, he commented, "I like to think that we’ve got a very well balanced portfolio with PS3, PSP and you can’t discount the PS2." |

PS2- Still on the Game, On the " MoDa" almost every ppl have one, and Sony Games Companies makes Kids Games and interactive games for it.
So Sony is counting with a great entertaining for everyone!

Just another lame executive comment from Sony. Playstation is a gaming platform, people buy a Playstation as a console/handheld to play games first and foremost. I guess when you are in third place the only spin you can put on it is that your direct competition isn't actually your competition.

Some people bought the PS2 as a DVD Player. Some people will (and do) buy the Wii as a fitness device. They are all still gaming consoles, and the core purchaser buys it for it's core reason, gaming.
Maybe Sony is more interested in added new BluRay features than new gaming features.

Every product in a competitive market has a competitor. For gaming you are up against Nintendo and Microsoft, for TV's you're up against Samsung, Panasonic et al.
They're being pwned in gaming, despite what the fanboys will say. They're getting stronger in Europe and do indeed have Japan but on the global side they're in last place. Handhelds they're losing, the recent surge in sales for the PSP in Japan has not pushed it close to DS total sales in either Japan or worldwide.

I have a 360, and am VERY proud of it.. my issue.. The lifespan of the Microsoft Systems isn't even HALF the lifetime of ANY Sony console. In english.. Expect a new Xbox in about 2/3 years time.

Sony's made history with the Playstation brand, especially seeing as the PS1 still lives within the PS3 and PSP. Pound for pound, the PS3 is a better deal as M$ charge for online and add-on's that Sony have built into the PS3.
People want the PS3 to fail because they've been around for ages, and are still here. MS/Ninty had a good year with their consoles because they rushed their consoles, I mean look at the Red Ring of Death, people have had to return, and even buy a new machine (sometimes more than one (^^states 3-4), and so their sales will be pushed up.

He's going to wait until the 360 drops to $100 and just play the in-house games, like he did with the DCast and GCube. MS have got to get their heads down and release a blu-ray addon for the 360 - If you can't beat them, join them.

But I bought my ps3 for the games, so they better stop saying stupidities and start having more games on the console, especially JRPGs since NOT EVEN ONE JRPGs graced the ps3 while I bought it just for that (x360 have now 3...). I don't wanna buy an x360 too just for JRPGs, so they better start coming.
