KUKA Roboter GmbH unveiled the KR 1000 titan, a robot that can lift a payload of 1000 kilograms and has an impressive reach of 3200 mm. The company even invited various members of the media, customers, and prominent guests to witness the event. Both company and robot earned immortality as they were placed into the Guinness Book of World Records that night, under the World's Strongest Robot category.
The success of the industrial grade machine is attributed to its innovative drive concept and design. The test given to the robot was pretty simple, they made it lift a dumbbell bar loaded with members of the audience. As an interesting sidenote, this was conducted by the German national handball team's trainer Heiner Brand, whose team just recently won the world championship in the said sport. Select members of the audience were also loaded onto the robot's dumbbell bar until they reached a combined weight of 1000 kilograms.
KUKA looks to have been very successful in their marketing of the said machine, there is no telling how many companies might have already signed up to get their own KR 1000 titan. I'm thinking of getting one myself, a suspended living room sounds like a good treat.
