The PSP continues to dominate the hardware charts as Media Create reports sales figures from the 20th to the 26th of October in Japan. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said about the PS3, which sank to a new low last week.

Although all the platforms experienced a drop in sales from the week before last, the PSP continues to show strength over the others. Last week, it sold more units Japan than the PS3, DS, Wii, and Xbox 360 combined yet again. On the other hand, the PS3's figures dropped to a new low.

It seems that the sleek handheld from Sony is a big hit in Japan. As for the PS3, maybe we can expect sales to pick up in the coming weeks, owing to its strong lineup during the holidays. We can check back on the numbers next week once Media Create releases its weekly hardware sales chart.

Might want to fix the title. It's "PS3 sinks to a new low." instead of PSP.

Protip- Give the PS3 PS2 b/c, a price cut and stop selling the PS2.

   Re: Miclowgunman - 2008-10-31
 » The only problem..

with stopping sales of the ps2 is that games are still comming out fo it...

   Re: ISOHaven - 2008-10-31
 » WTF!?!?!?!?!

Thus the reason for the price cut and b/c for the PS3. Instead of people buying the PS2 new, they should be buying a PS3.

But today, cheaper will win.

   Re: Shatterdome - 2008-10-31
 » well...

I don't think Sony should stop selling the PS2, especially if people are still buying it...

Sony makes money off PS2's, they lose money off PS3's....right now Sony needs money, and PS3 is doing just fine for now....

   Re: masta.g.86 - 2008-10-31
» They SHOULD stop selling the PS2 but...

What about the PS3s that can't even run PS2 games? The newest line of 80GB PS3s don't even have software emulation for it.

 » WTF!?!?!?!?!

@masta.g.86 - Excatly!

Something tells me, the lake of b/c was strickly for this reason.

When they're done with the PS2, I bet it magicaly appears.

 » duuuuh

Why sell hardware that you lose money on that can run games that hardware you make money on can ?

Fawk PS2, seriously, if you are stuck in the stone age, by a $100 ps2, big deal.....and chances are if you are stuck in the stone age you already have a PS2.....

I have a PS3, and I could care less about ps2 games....seriously, let the fools spend their money....

   Re: StainlessSteve - 2008-11-02
 » Actually...

It does cost a lot of money for Sony to keep backwards compatibility on each model of the PS3. They have to test each model to see if the new b/c firmware is stable and if even one model can't handle it, then it's just more time and money to go find and fix the code.
