Japan VC to get Golden Axe III, Battle City, and more - Image 1Japan based Wii owners are in for a treat with five games being released on the Virtual Console. The line-up is very solid being beefed up with classics such as Battle City, Mach Rider, Golden Axe III, Legend of Hero Tonma, and Override.

Battle City and Mach Rider were initially released for the Famicom (NES) and are legends in their own right. The first game has you defending your base against a finite set of opponents while Mach Rider has you racing across a post apocalyptic world searching for survivors and staving off an alien invasion.

Golden Axe III is a side-scroller for the Mega Drive (Sega Genesis) which was only released in the U.S. via the Sega Channel. Legend of Hero Tonma is a platformer for the PC Engine with the hero Tommy on a quest to rescue a princess. Finally, Override is a top-down shooter also originally released on the PC engine.

Both NES games are available for 500 Wii points each, while the rest can be downloaded for 600 Wii points apiece. Be sure to check these games out if you get the chance.
