This is all absolutely delicious. I warned Take-Two months ago that there would be huge problems if it went ahead with Manhunt 2. Who was right about that kiddies? Secondly, the BBC and the world are now laughing at Take-Two Chairman Strauss Zelnick for his idiotic statement yesterday that Manhunt 2 is "a fine piece of art." Find the BBC story on that! Right, and Jack the Ripper was his generation's Rembrandt. Please. Take-Two has been hemorrhaging cash over the last few financial quarters, and this must makes it worse. I love it. If you all would stop and think about this for a minute, this development is a HUGE benefit to the video game industry. It fits nicely with their argument that the ESRB ratings are real and actually mean something. Responsible people within the industry, even Doug Lowenstein, have been saying for quite sometime that Take-Two had become a problem for the entire industry because it was painting a bullseye on the back of the whole industry and making it more difficult for the industry to get US politicians off its back. Now the ESRB does something that indicates is might be trustworthy, and you nitwits go bonkers because of that development. Grow up and smell the hot coffee. This is the best thing that could have happened to the industry. The isolation and ostracism of Take-Two by the industry was long overdue. Now that it has come, rejoice. |

This is all about censorship. The ESRB should most likely just not exist because it's rating system IS a form of censorship. Because of it's high rating Manhunt 2 will not be sold by certain stores and even Nintendo and Sony don't support it --> censorship. If it's a game only for adults, then why, because of this rating, is it being banned so that even adults cannot play it.
Same thing with the music industry and ratings back in the day (about 20 years ago).
again we see this arsehole (thompson) trying to gain credit from take-two's situation. what a *****
I really agree with what you said. I wouldn't give a flying f()ck what rating it had if I could still buy it. However, since rating it AO prevents ANYONE from buying it that is wrong.
Ok I'm cool with a game having an AO rating but
what I'm not cool with is being dropped by the
console makers. So what if it's rated AO, give us
the opertunaty to purchase it if we chose to. This
also scares off other game makers from making
AO games. I invite AO games with open arms.
If you don't like the content or your under age
done get it. If you are of age you should have
the right to purchase a copy, don't make up our
minds for us, we're not children.
Well, where not all children and an AO rating shouldn't prevent a game from being made
and sold for console systems. If it doesn't
get released for the PSP, I believe I very
well may become a pirate cause I might not
ever purchase a UMD ever again. Not that
I'm cool with pirating games, not at all, just
thats how much it might upset me :)
Well, Mr. Thompson still believes that video games make people violent. Music, movies and games are ART. They do NOT make people violent, and there is NO proof. Of course, they're still are the brainwashed people of America that will believe whatever the the media will feed down there fat throats, but that is a different subject. Games, movies, and music don't need a rating. And if you think Manhunt is bad, you're freaking sad. But this is America, so complain about anything, and you got have it your way.
I don't know about the rest of you, but all this commotion just makes me want to buy the game even more. Before all this controversy started, I didn't even have interest in the game and now look...I want to buy it!
I AGREE.....
I just want to buy it to spite Jack Thompson now. See? I'm right. He's working for the video game industry as a publicity stunt.
I may not buy this game. But I'll buy a gun simulation game [Time Crisis 4], just to smite Jack's comments.
"and you nitwits go bonkers because of that development. Grow up and smell the hot coffee"
Is that a bad attempt at inserting a San Andreas pun in there?
This guy is a moron anyway. Grow up?? Many of us ARE grown up, and therefor we should have the right to play these games. What the hell is the point of this crap anyway. M for mature is already 17+, i say make it 18+ and the hell with the retarded AO rating, its not like someone who is 17 is going to get a seizure from this game while someone who is 18 will be just fine.
nice point about the age reference above. but on a serious note, doesnt jack thompson ever get tired? He seems like a big kid because he just made a GTA reference with hot coffee statement. What professional lawyer ever makes a statement like that?
Jack Thompson loves playing games, especially GTAs!
I agree, the AO rating IS pretty much pointless.
that last year before you turn 18, you are already the way you going to be.
this guy has issues
..seriously, does anyone actually take all the video game ratings seriously? I mean, my parents will get me a game for christmas or birthday no matter if it's 18 or adults only (i'm 15 btw). And why all this fuss about manhunt? I know about that killing like 3 years ago associated with manhunt, which i personally feel is aload of bollocks-Just some stupid kid who could have got his ideas from just about ANY media source, not manhunt specifically.
I guess what im trying to say is Jack Thompson can suck my *****, the arsehole. I hope manhunt 2 sells great.
I think the problem IS that parents don't take rating seriously. If they did, we wouldn't have any of these problems that we have today. Jack Thompson wouldn't have anything else to say.
Dude you obviosly don't get it.
This is ONLY happening because stupid parents don't follow the ratings.
Therefore , the BBFC and goverment get under pressure to stop these gamss from reaching minors.
If moronic parents won't do something about it , the only other choice is to start banning overly sexual/.violent games.
ANd it won't sell great , it's basiclly banned.
Normally my eyes glaze over when I hear that familiar "violence in video games" tirade. This time, however, I'm inclined to agree with Jack. This game goes beyond casual violence into sadistic, depraved mutilation.
The fact that the Wii remote adds another level of immersion only increases the twisted psychopathology that the game forces upon the player.
I read that the game designer/creator compared Manhunt 2 to violent horror films. While he may be correct from a content standpoint, his argument does not hold water when considering the potential impact upon customers. There is an immense difference between watching something be done and doing it yourself.
We don't need games like this that indulge fantasies that only sickos carry around in their heads. What's next? A terrorist game where you plant bombs in local supermarkets and crash planes into buildings full of civilians in order to promote your terrorist agenda? A game where you play a rapist that has to do as many deeds as he can while aluding the police? Where is the line drawn?
There are certain memes and immoral pursuits that should not be given mainstream attention. In regards to Manhunt 2, the only thing that needs to be brutally murdered is that franchise, which is at the same time both disgusting and unnecessary in the video game industry.
I dont care how bloody and nasty a game is, we should be allowed to play it if we are adults. I would still say this if I game had you mutilating new born babies. If I can die in a war I should get to play a stupid video game.
Granted, the line should be drawn somewhere...and it was, a very long time ago: killing. Your analogy (was it an analogy?) was flawed...killing-based games have been around almost as long as the video game industry has. It's a main staple of most video games to kill the enemies, and usually in extremely large quantities. Rape is not a main staple of the industry, so obviously the line is drawn before that. Terrorism? Well, I have to admit, the concept of a game like that is intriguing, and could potentially be a lot of fun. Why can I say that? Because I'm not a psychopath, and I'm not going to become a terrorist just because it's cool in a game. Most of us out here in reality know the difference between reality and fantasy, and aren't going to become crazed criminals just because we play a bunch of criminalistic games. Trauma Center didn't make me want to become a surgeon. Phoenix Wright...well, I already toyed with the idea of being a lawyer, but I'm not going to run out and practice law just because I played the game. Psychopaths don't need video games to go on a murdering rampage, they're already psychopaths that will find an excuse anywhere to indulge in their sickness. To say that a game of depravity will drive him to the act is an ignorant and flawed statement.
And another thing, have you ever played the Wii? The wiimote doesn't produce nearly as realistic action as you think it does. Most of the controls are a basic swipe, a (rediculously carefully controlled) thrust, a vertical lift or drop, and a wiggling. Now, granted, all of these motions would be comical if employed in an actual murder, they're about as realistic as a kindergartner's drawing of their mother. I dare say, society is no safer without Manhunt 2 being released on the Wii, or any other system for that matter, than if it were released.
My thoughts exactly.
Hoo rah.
go ffuukk youre self u faagggott a$$$ sob.
first off this dude needs to find his hair line. second of all when this game gets release because i know it will the game is going to sell out everywhere. and it probably wont even be that good of a game. i mean its going to be good but it aint gonna be the s*it. they need to flat out just ID the people that are buying the game and get over it. if someone blames shanking someone over the game then whatever. people dont learn how to shank people from video games. human beings sit there and go hey...how can i hurt this dude...yes...im gonna shank him real quick. people need to start a petition or something to get this game released because this censorship s*it is getting out of control....stupid ass little kids...that why i beat my kids so they know better...ok im done.
well, he is obviously bald from all the video games he played as a child. Now hes mad at them for making him even more ugly, so hes taking revenge.
Thats the most logical thing I can think of.
Jack, lol. No crap the rating system means something, buddy. But that's the whole point, isn't it? To let parents.. (Especially parents, because apparently they can't do their job and keep their kids away from these kind of video games and give Jack fuel) be aware that this game is intended for adults.
Wait a second, ManHunt 2 is going to be for Adults!? Wow! What a shocker! And here all this time I was thought it was rated "E." Nobody should really take to heart what Jack said, for example look at this line in his e-mail...
"Who was right about that kiddies?" Lol, he's just excited because for once someone is siding with him instead of him constantly being shut down. Every dog has his day, for Jack it took about 18 years.
...I still want this game though. PC?
His eyes looks like the eyes on the Manhunt 2 cover! :O
I'm going to like to see how this turns out.
somehow im going to buy this game, dont ask me how, but im going to do it.
Couldn't help but notice the irony in this comment..."Grow up and smell the HOT COFFEE."
you fully understand the meaning of irony...
this game should be banned. it disgusting. i dont support jack thompson but rockstar took manhunt 2 way too far. I love gta but manhunt is just wrong on so many levels and should be banned. if this one had the same graphics as the ps2 version maybe then it would be ok but it looks way to real. this game is sickening and i for one support the bannings. maybe not the ps3 version but the wii version is having you make the actual motions to kill the enemys. thats just messed up. stop blindly defending yor ***** and realize that for once. jack thompson may actually be right. stop being blind fanboys.
No ones forcing you to play this game, last time i checked there wasn't a gunman employed at stores to take you hostage while you were browsing and force you to buy a certain game. Jack Thompson is never right and this probably made the lil bastards day, boner and all... Nevermind though he'll die eventually but if only the process was sped up, a guy can dream :(
hey HEY it is on ps2.... n wii grafix arnt great and as for motion on the wii its probably choppy anyways.....
The only people that call other people "fanboys" on this forum are fanboys themselves. Jack Thompson, as much as I hate to admit it because I can't stand the jackhole, is trying for a just cause, but that doesn't make him right. If a person doesn't want Manhunt 2, don't buy it. If they do, buy it. Waggling a wiimote around doesn't make it any more realistic than before, it'll just give you tendonitis.
I for one see that there is still a bit of hope that Manhunt 2 will see the light of day. If we can all remember a few years back to the Punisher game that was getting heat. That game was going to be stopped by the ESRB rating system and all it took was going back and making all the really graphic stuff in the game black and white. This was just the first rating of the game and it gives take-two a chance to go back and change a few things to make it an M rating. Heck I don't care if it gets released with a couple of parts were the blood is gray instead of red to get that M rating at least it will get released. All Take-two has to do is learn from the past and give us a couple black and white or cleaner cut scenes and this game will be a go.
As for Jack Thompson goes who in the heck gave this guy the voice of gamers. I mean really were does he get off telling the world what gamers want. Is he even an owner of a video game? I bet this guy even attacks the cell phone companies for adding black jack to his phone saying cell phone owners don't need to induce their gambling habits. Oh sorry don't wanna give him any ideas.
Long story short Take-two has invested to much time and money into this game to just bend over and take it from uncle Jack.
whats the going rate for a hitman nowadays? surely they could've saved a lot of money hiring one and if not saving money at least spending it wisely :)
Jack Thompson sounds like a bitter kid who's never got to play games or had any friends and now he's taking it out on others.
It's pathetic how sly he's being in taking credit for the Manhunt ban. It was the UK's BBFC that decided to deem the game violent, and ESRB followed suit. Not because Jacko thinks so.
I don't think Take-Two will give up so easily. They will most likely remove the "unacceptable" content to have the ratings revised, but not because they think it's the right thing to do. They invested a lot of money and they will try to get through this.
As for violent games, they will always get more violent. Take-two is just ahead of its time and thus receives most of the criticism.
Jack Thompson, you better watch out. One of these days you're gonna get run over by a truck.
and became a lawyer to make money so he could finally afford a higher class prostitute. his $2 whores just were not cutting it anymore. HEY JACK F#CK YOU YOU WORTHLESS FU@K!!!!!!!!!
while I think jack thompson is a whiny ***hole, I agree with the decision, as while I understand your argument about censorship, the game is very easily obtainable by kids (I should know) and adults only might make retailers more aware, also IMHO the game is stupid anyway, it is just about killing and has little plot, also I understand why sony and nintendo dropped the title, but dissagree with it.
Why punish games and developers? It's not Budweiser's fault (supposedly) when a child buys beer. It's not Marlboro's fault (supposedly) when a child buys cigarettes, why should it be Take-Two's fault if a child buys a video game? Why isn't Jack Thompson targeting the retailers, the ones that actually make these games available to children, more vehemently? There will ALWAYS be adult-only content in the world, always. It is not the responsibility of the makers to keep it out of children's hands, it's the responsibility of the retailers. GameStop/EB Games, Best Buy, Wal-Mart, Toys-R-Us, it's all on them to card buyers, and it's all on the parents to screen what they buy for their children. Enough with bashing publishers...WHY AREN'T THESE RATINGS BEING ENFORCED AT THE STORES? That's the real question jackholes like JT should be asking.
I see evil and death in jack thompson's eyes, really REALLY creepy
I see a guy who would bend his own kids over when I look into his eyes.
I think these events have given Manhunt 2 even more publicity. Gamers who really wanna play it will obtain it somehow anyway, but now there will be also a lot of curious people wanting to find out.
The only positive to co
