We expect to hear people say, "OMG YOU NOOBZ" on this one, because it seems absolutely preposterous, but we're not one to pass a good video up on the net. What we have here is the possibility that someone's running a Super Mario Bros. emulation on Fedora through their PlayStation 3. |

I mean you can install a full Linux distro. But I'm not that really familiar with Linux so it might be otherwise.
Looks like he has two 360s there. ?
really!!?? ............duh
easily done with linux, deffinately possible.
i'm too lazy to go find out if there are good n64 emus and below, does anyone know and care to tell me?
are tehre more advanced emus? like dc or even better?
also, do pirate discs of ps2 games work in the ps3, or even ps1 games for that matter... i am just curious cos i've heard it doesn't care too much for region coding.
It lacks 3D support under Linux, so you can't emulate everything newer than SNES.
maybe playstation1, but no N64.
this it the sh:t that's gonna get homebrew removed on the ps3
I reckon everyone should wait intil europe and australia has it, then there will be homebrew for all!
From what I've read Sony will have a more open standpoint for homebrew / user created content on the PS3. While vague at the moment I'm sure it will clarify once backup games are managed and so forth.
its not homebrew u could do that with just the internet browser if u really wanted to so this is just stupid news its not homebrew
Ive seen this for the third time on qj. Im thinking it was just a deju i may have had for the 3 time.
snes9x builds pretty much out of the box on ps3linux.
You need to throw the following in snes9x/unix/unix.cpp to get it to build, as the system headers don't seem to define these:
typedef unsigned long kernel_ulong_t;
#define BITS_PER_LONG 32
It's getting stuttery sound and the framerate jumps around in the 45-60 rate, unlike my x86 linux machine and macmini where it stays pegged at 60/60. There's no ppc-native assembly emulator core (unlike x86 and sh4), but I don't think that's the issue since it's only using about 28% cpu (and the X server is using 8%).
Still, kinda neat. Probably won't be all that much work for somebody to get it cleaned up for ps3.

On sony's "homebrew" site (forget the name) they say once "boot loader" has executed, they are not responsible for 3rd party progs that "boot loader" can run.
No doubt they have some other legal mumbo jumbo to pass them off as a PC as well, making them no more liable then mac, or the creators of individual distros of linux. Just because they can run emus.
It looks like it can run X11 which is super cool...i'm more curious on how the paint apps (aka corel) and 3d rendering progs and such work...if at all...
coooool :0
Just like Sony promised, they left PS3 open for Linux distros. So Europeans do not worry about this being patched, it is an official feature and Sony is not responsible for the programs run under Linux.
I think the reason why Sony is doing this, is because IIRC in Europe there is a large tax right off for PC manufactures. Well, they tried to have the PS2 classify for it as an after thought. It didn't pass even though it could run Linux because it was done via a method sony never promoted. But this time it does. And it doesnt matter what gets emulated under it, as long as its not PS3 titles or PS2 (idk of a PS2 emu that works on Linux well barely one on XP). But this cool. When you think about it, its does kind of make the PS3 more appealing even though it has a $600 price tag. But I already have a PC with Linux/XP and a MAC Mini and a 360. So I dont see a point in having one. Cool for those who didnt pick up a 360 I guess...
I think he's one of those guys to stole 2 of 4 Xbox 360s and 1 of the PS3s from Gamestop ;) jks
I have an idea.....y doesn't sum1 try 2 slightly alter PSP homwbrew so that it runs on the PS3?....has any1 tryed that?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pwoIKYZs76Q
We're making an article on it now. :)
this isnt "hombrew" on the ps3 nothing like brew on the psp and on the xbox before. this is just a snes emulator on linux that runs off the ps3 when i see an emulator running str8 out of the xmb without the help of an os then u can call that homebrew.
sakura you're an idiot.
Personally I loved taking games around with me in the PSP such as SNES roms. But this is a PS3, a unit which requires a TV. My PC is better for this sort of thing. Home brew and even emulators are pretty pointless on the PS3, 360, and the Wii. If you cant afford a PC that can play Snes roms then you are pretty damn poor. My laptop is also capable of playing these roms, but I would rather play Half-Life 2 instead. :p
So all in all, I don't see the point in purchasing a PS3, and Linux isn't changing my mind. 360 is working just fine.
The Nintendo Wii on the other hand is looking attractive because of Zelda and its Wii sports. But would it just be a waste of money in the end? Waiting on that answer...
