PSP FW 3.60 - Image 1

PSP Fanboy got hold of a redesigned PlayStation Portable unit. So what now? Well, the good guys over at the said site tinkered around with it and learned a couple of very important things: the new handheld is running on FW 3.60 and it carries a USB charge function.

We guess we don't have to explain that in detail to you guys. Aside from the already mentioned, there's also a UMD Cache feature that will be used to increase the load speed of loaded video game UMDs.

In relation to the new video-out functionality, the new PSP unit also has a feature that allows users to change the type of TV that is connected to the handheld as well as settings for screensavers. PSP Fanboy connected their unit to a TV set and found that games are bordered, rendered at 480x272, and for progressive scan only.

Of course, we believe that FW 3.60 has a lot of other features that are yet to be announced and discovered. The most important among these for you, we believe, is how tough its security system is going to be. We have a feeling we'll find out soon enough.

The psp homebrew scene is dead, might as well just buy a DS now since it may be the next growing homebrew scene (well, at least they have a N64 emulator better than daedalus and the homebrew can use touch screen, Quake with keyboard on the bottom screens seems nice :))

 » im very disapointed

ok im jus flat out sad. first off why does sony hate homebrew so much. i mean you would think they would want something like homebrew. homebrew is something people love, sony doesnt have to pay a cent for it, and it will help them sell more units. But i can understand why they hate ISO's because that means they wont sell UMDs. But i mean why dont they give this new psp more RAM, no security against homebrew, another analog stick, 8 gigabytes of memory, keep the memory card slot for extra memory, give it a camera, and let the system sell itself. Personally i dont know why sony hates homebrew so much and im not trying to be *****y but if anyone has a reason please tell me. i mean i look at my psp and see something with a ton of potential and i dont know why sony cant see the potential that me and millions of others see....

» The reason Sony hates homebrew

Put yourself in Sony's shoes. Let's say you make this sweet ass portable handheld, with the best graphics capabilities on the market and are selling games for 30 bucks a pop roughly. Now let's say you get a bunch of teenagers who figure out how to do emulation on there. Then as time goes on, the emulation gets better, and finally an ISOloader is put in with firmwares. Not to mention the slew of other homebrew original games.

The bottom line is that...

HOMEBREW DETERS SOFTWARE SALES

HOMEBREW DETERS SOFTWARE SALES

HOMEBREW DETERS SOFTWARE SALES

HOMEBREW DETERS SOFTWARE SALES

HOMEBREW DETERS SOFTWARE SALES

HOMEBREW DETERS SOFTWARE SALES

HOMEBREW DETERS SOFTWARE SALES

HOMEBREW DETERS SOFTWARE SALES

That is why Sony doesn't like it and doesn't want it. Either way, 3.60 will be cracked soon enough. Dark Alex may have left, which of course yeah is a huge blow to the homebrew community, but all hope is not lost.

well i have data myself
before getting my PSP homebrew capable i bought 5 games in around a 3 month period

after getting my PSP homebrew capable i've bought 1 game in about a 9 month period

i have no PSP ISO's on my memory stick just emulators and homebrew games

   Re: Snarg (Unregistered) - 2007-07-13
 » Lost Sales

Here's the problem with the numbers they give you on the news.
Let's say that they can determine that a $50 game has been downloaded about 20,000 times.
They will say that they lost $1,000,000 in sales to piracy.
There's a huge flaw in that logic though.
Of those 20,000 downloaders, you'd be lucky if 100 of them would have actually bought the game. That's $5,000 in sales lost.
So yes piracy hurts game, and software sales, but don't buy into the numbers they throw around in the media, they are extremely errant.

 » Sweet

You can't diss a refreshed hardware. period.

Slim is ok, tv output is good but allready done, better battery (order it from divineo.com), no infrared.. common! I love to freakout people with IRShell haha

The new PSP will be hacked like all machines. If Sony can access its inner memory, then anyone will with time. Its a simple fact that hackers are always going to be there. The community is building strong. I my self am addicted to this piece of black goodness :D

Dark Alex wasn't the only person behind all the mods. He was and always will be a legend to the PSP, but lets not forget all other devs. Small or big everyone has an impact on the PSP community. Even the "..first post!.." retarded people to anyone simply giving out ideas. As long as there is attention related to homebrew, there will be hacks.

Keep up the good work people,

peace :D

   Re: PSPManX (Unregistered) - 2007-07-13
 » hmm

well if the 1st gen psp's cant output to a tv then I will be seriously pissed off cuz sometimes it gets real annoying to play psp cuz it gets uncomfortable!

I am not too impressed with the redesign, its the same exact thing, the only diff is a better battery, firmware enhancements (cuz of 3.60) and thin and slimmer, WOW. not enough to get me to buy it cuz my big psp still pwnz :)

Re: OMG FIRST! (Unregistered) - 2007-07-13
 » OMG FIRST!

FIRST FIRST FIRST!!!!!! YOU MAKE ME PROUD OF BEING A FIRST POSTER!!!!!!!!!!!!
   by manaox2 (Unregistered) - 2007-07-13
 » Can so.

Here is how I diss refreshed hardware in a 3 point outline.

1. TV-output to progressive only? I dont own a HD progressive scan tv that costs at least $200 for the 720p that is required to play low-quality rendered 480x272 psp games. Why dont I buy a PS3 while their at it? Sticking with Remotejoy.

2. Slimmer and lighter is a plus, but did they have to make it look like a cheap toy?

3. You can't hack missing hardware. Ahman is probably never coming out of retirement now that there is no infrared. There goes all Ir keyboard functionality setting that to square one and NOW they announce a partnership to create a major MMO?

There are pluses to this. Slimmer, lighter, USB-charge function, uses less power, better UMD drive function, possibly less prone to breaking wireless switch, better caching with more RAM. Just because you throw in these things doesn't mean that I can't get workarounds for my current psp without lossing my previous peripherals like batteries and custom firmware using less then thirty dollars.

Heres how: RemoteJoy, buy a USB charging cable, 2600 maH afterstock battery, use an ISO loader to speed up cache. Now thats not quite the same, but it definately knocks the value of the cheap remake down a good bit especially knowing that possibly its best features like the RAM caching and the TV-out don't have the same impact without having the best games and may require a good amount of hacking before the general person can make use of them.

by SONY IS ABANDONING PSP v1! (Unregistered) - 2007-07-13
» MIGHT AS WELL CHUCK YOUR PSP IN THE GARBAGE!

So it looks like $ony will be FORCING us to buy their newer and upgraded PSP v2 if we want to continue receiving firmware updates...

How will Firmware 3.60 work on existing PSP v1? What will happen to all those options? Will there even BE a Firmware 3.60 for the OLDER PSP's (v1) that doesn't include these options? Probably not!

Sony has admitted defeat... Forcing us to either live with the fact they no longer support our beloved homebrew enabled PSP v1 or to go buy a new PSP v2 Slimmer, Lighter, Non-Homebrewable... $250.... again, Just so we can continue to receive OFFICIAL $ony Firmware updates?

WTF! Thanks a LOT $ony!

   Re: .. (Unregistered) - 2007-07-13
 » ..

I say $250 by time you spend $200+tax on the console, then buy all new accessories since it doesn't look like the remote and headphone jack are next to each other anymore, and the battery is now different so if you want an external battery charger (like the official sony one) then that's another $25 and etc etc it adds up in NEW accessories that are unneeded because we already had them for PSP v1 and now they're now longer compatible!

   Re: Karlos (Unregistered) - 2007-07-13
» Fk me some people are so closed minded

Obviously there are differences between the 2 devices so obviously the firmware will be built in a way to cater for both. DUHHHH. The options that are available for the new one, will simply be disabled or not available for the old one.
Also Sony would not be expecting us to buy the new PSP just cus its 'new'. The new PSP is an 'enhancement' not a complete change. More for those late adopters plus to give the system a fresh look. Geez some people think the world is going to end here

Re: Mister Common Sense - 2007-07-17
» Don't buy this new PSP

I already have 2 old style PSPs, and there's nothing wrong with them. $ony's just trying to give people a reason to give up homebrew. What good is TV out if you still have to use the PSP as the controller?

At least with the $120 PSP2TV mod kit you can plug a PS2 controller into your PSP and use it like a console.

From the article ''there's also a UMD Cache feature that will be used to increase the load speed of loaded video game UMDs''

And of course it's going to get hacked! DaX Wasn't the only legend out there! Fanjita & Ditlew, etc...
Either way. I'm going to score one of these with Darth Vader's face on it! Shweet.
