The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) shared an interesting image of the star currently referred to as HD 189733. This is just a 63 light-years away from Earth and is near the northern constellation of Cygnus.

The star itself is not at all amazing but the recent discoveries regarding it will definitely help on-going search for life in other systems. Among those is the discovery of a hot Jupiter-sized planet orbiting it with "an impressively short period of 2.2 days."

What's more interesting is that the planet regularly eclipses its parent star, allowing astronomers to study starlight that passes directly through the planet's atmosphere. NASA shared further:

Following the discovery of water vapor in the planetary atmosphere, astronomers now report that Hubble Space Telescope data also indicates the signature of methane (CH4).  The exciting result is the first detection of an organic molecule on a planet orbiting another star.

Although HD 189733's planet is considered too hot and inhospitable to support life, the work is a step toward measuring conditions and chemistry on other extrasolar planets where life could exist.
