They had to call it something...

They finally settled on a name. If you recall, International Data Group (IDG, parent company of GamePro.com and GamePro mag) held a contest to see what the new name of their E3 replacement would be. The previously-proposed title was GamePro Expo, but then again, that sounded a bit like a plug for the publication, doesn't it? Well, the contest is over, IDG has a winner, and the new name shall now be:

E FOR ALL (Entertainment for All) EXPO

Why the name? While E3 now only caters to the industry, this "E" caters to everyone (as the E3 of yore did): the hardcore gamers, the casual gamers, the odd tourist, and so on. The fact that they held a contest among the community to get to this name in the first place kind of demonstrates that.

Okay, so it isn't as catchy as we thought it could be, but it is the name they have settled on, and given the rationale behind it, it's quite appropriate. We'd likely bet that someone's going to acronymize "E for All" further, which would probably result to E4A, E4All, 3411, or whatever catchy acronym or 1337-speak someone might think up.

And the lucky winner of a trip to Los Angeles, California, to see and experience the event he has named in all its full glory this October 18-20, 2007? California resident Dante Padre.

 » Everybody isn't a 1337 13 yr old...

Most people will use the Acronym "EFA Expo", mark my words.

» I completely changed my opinion on this subject.

When I first heard of GamePro making an expo, all I could do is roll my eyes. After reading the second paragraph of this post, I'm all for it all of a sudden.

If I got to pick the acronym for it, I would make it simply "E4". That way even though the name isn't so catchy, atleast the acronym would be.

 » E4

Exciting Electronic Entertainment Expo ,or E4.

It's truthful since E3 is no longer exciting, it's just a big press conference. This however is everything people loved about E3 that wasn't the games. So the acronym is truthful and easy to remember.

» l4me, the only E 4 all I care about has a :) or selected and a lil (^) at the end of the night.

Last year's E3 suxed bad enough. This year's G(ay) 4 all will give you aids in the arse from Adam Sesseler instead of the usual chochkies.

Do they relly think by giving it a 1337 name that they are going to have the boards and irc channels filled with people talking about this castrated E3.
This is going to be a bust because the industry is already following the examples of movie industry and bog down the consumer with sequels while the few major releases are dealt out over the year or during the holiday season(holiday buying=oscars). There are few truly new and innovative games that emerge and they get covered and folowed by the online gaming outlets.
So who the F(_)ck cares about the Lamepro or these large expos other than a ces or the real E3. The gaming industry shrank and the audience matured so it not really for all, it's about the big 3 and how much it can cater to the ipod generation. Expect this to be a no frills walk down the isle of the next three months for the general audience then a real assement of all facets of the industry(i.e. basically half of the other news that appears on qj,engadjet,...................................etc)
I wish idg and gamepro would go out of buisness already save us the agony of hearing their last gasp of relevance.
