Using the Photo Channel, the Wii can play movies in in MJPEG format, but sadly it can't read DivX, XviD, or MPG movies. You know, all those formats you use when you guys torrent stuff (although .MKV and.OGM seems quite hot now-a-days). No need to be disappointed though, there is a simple conversion process you undertake so that you can play videos for your wii.

Wii Video 9 is just like PSP Video 9, where you select movies and click on convert to get the job done. The guys at Siliconera report that using the tool they were able to convert .MOV and DivX movies with ease.

Here be a demo of some of the converted movies.

Keep in mind though, that since the vids are converted to MJPEG, the size of the the video files will increase. You can get to Wii Video 9 by using the read-link that we've got below. If in case there's a few troubles with the link they've got, you can use our download-link instead.

» NOT 'divx for your wii'

Complete and utter waste of time. Each MJPEG video frame is a complete JPEG image. One second of video at 30fps == 30 JPEG images. Do the math.

The video is nice tho, at least until wii users get something optional later on. will they get anything later on?

 » telly? why bother?

i honestly don't see much point in using the tv to view pics/vids. unless that you have a massive screen tv (which i don't bother), then fair enough.

i dunno, i just use the damn pc as the entertainment center, not the tv.

 » why?

Why did they choose this format? It is outdated. No cameras use it. There are no mjpeg videos. It is dumb. What in the hell were they thinking? Only one format... that NOBODY would EVER use. Lets see, a 1mb MPG, convert it to MJPEG, the size turns to like 6mb.

I think its so people don't put movies on their memory cards and watch them on TV. But why have that kind of security? Nintendo has no foothold in the movies industry. How hard is to to add more supported formats? They probably will make us purchase them.

This has been covered before. All these people are proving is that you can place the MJPEG movie in a MOV or AVI container, which doesn't solve any size or quality problems; it basically just changes the file name. A complete waste of time.
