Within three to four years, consumers could finally tell oil companies to go shove their gas some place else instead of their car tanks. Within that time period, Honda confirmed it plans a production model of their hydrogen cars based on the FCX Concept.

The FCX car, which was unveiled at the Tokyo Motor Show last year, is an advanced hydrogen-powered fuel cell vehicle hailed as a historic achievement in the evolution of the automobile. It was also regarded as a milestone in the  advancement of future transportation technology which uses hydrogen to generate electricity that powers a motor. The company has also developed a home “energy station” that generates hydrogen from natural gas to allow owners to refuel on their own driveway.

In June 2005, Honda leased its FCX vehicle to the Spallinos of California making them the world’s first fuel cell family. The Spallinos was expected to use the FCX in everyday normal use, including commuting to work, school and other errands. If all goes according to plan, the Spallino Family won't be the only ones with smiles on their faces everythime they pull into a hydrogen gas station.
