HDMI Xbox Premium - Image 1Good news for high-def fans out there! According to a report from Shack News, it seems that Microsoft has officially confirmed the arrival of HDMI ports on the newest premium models of the Xbox 360 console.

An e-mailed statement to Shack News has a Microsoft rep saying the following:

Yes, we are offering an HDMI port for Xbox 360 simply as another choice in Xbox 360 owners' games and entertainment experience. Retailers are gradually introducing HDMI-enabled Xbox 360s into the channel to meet demand.

Regarding seeing HDMI ports on Core versions of the console, Microsoft said they had "not announced any plans to add HDMI to the Xbox 360 Core System."

 » well...

I guess that means we can all just smash our existing systems for replacements. Or just wait for the ring...

I love how late to the party they are with this and how adamant they were we didnt need it. We all dropped our money for an inferior product. Hopefully we can just get this when we need to invoke the warranty.

 » That's funny...

I bought my 360 at launch....and

It still works....

and...the rest of what you mentioned has absolutely nothing to do with playing GAMES on my GAMING machine, the primary reason I bought it.

Also, I could care less about HDMI, I have a widescreen CRT, it's not HD so no big deal....many other people feel the same.

As for releasing an unfinished product....well, if people would not have *****ed and complained about HDMI MS would not have added it in, as it really is not needed....but to shut people up they added a model with it.

Now, to save money on inventory and production they are just adding it to the premium so that they can use the same Mobo as the elite...

I have my Elite hooked up thru HDMI, and honestly, it looks no different from component, certainly not a difference you can notice while playing.

And actually, since I have my consoles hooked into a sound system, and since the HDMI cable is sound and video in one, I have to turn my TV volume down or else my 360 will play sounds thru the TV and the sound system, and it's not quite in sync, so this weird echo thing happens. It's annoying.

How does HDMI in the latest 360s make
Sony's strategy right? Sony are a hardware company, so it was no problem for them to include HDMI and Blu-ray into a console which was released ONE YEAR after the 360.

for me the hdmi is not an option i would use since my TV supports the 360 at 1080p thru component cables and my ps3 takes up my only hdmi port

 » Unfortunate

This is the classic down side to buying a new console within a couple of years. How many of us has bought a new hand held or console and then a few months or a year later its dropped in price or a newer version is realeased. Nintendo has done it with the gameboy and DS, Sony is releasing a slimmer PSP and now the newer 360 will come standard with and HDMI port. Its the price we pay for wanting something right away :). As much as this sucks, I'm sure that a lot of people could not care about it as not a lot of people have am HD TV anyway. I know a few guys that still plays their 360 of Standard Def TV's.

   Re: beej (Unregistered) - 2007-08-09
» dont drag Sony into this

The PSP was released in March of 2005. 2 and 1/2 years later they are updating... that is no way screwing over first releases. They also aren't adding something they said wasn't necessary to begin with.

Re: Mister Common Sense - 2007-08-09
 » .

Sony originally said the PSP would have a TV output, but it wasn't released with that feature.

Now they want you to buy a new PSP (that prohibits homebrew of course) to get TV output. What a load of s*it.

HDMI really isn't necessary. Most games are only rendered at 720p anyway. You can still get 1080p with VGA, and even component on some TVs. HDMI is just becoming more popular on newer TVs.

Only a matter of time b/f its hacked... Plus a lot more people want HDMI than u know (or MS wouldn't have added it). Just cause ur TV sucks, doesn't mean that other's do too...

the fact is that it AINT needed.... people with old Xbox's will still continue to be able to play everything.... HDMI would be NEEDED if future games only worked on HDMI, which aint happening cos it adds nothing major to picture quality.

   Re: SplittingHairs (Unregistered) - 2007-08-09
» Keef is right, it's you who's pathetic

HDMI is a desirable OPTION for HD, but it is not required for HD, since you can achieve HD gaming through component and VGA. That's the point MS have always made!

   Re: MrInfo (Unregistered) - 2007-08-09
 » RE: HDMI

Component supports up to 1080i, where as HDMI supports up to 1080p with 5.1 surround sound. HDMI is not that big of deal and most idiots don't have their HDTV's set to use 1080p and are running on 720i lol. Once you dummies figure out how to use your TV THEN you can complain about something.

   Re: jayhawker09 (Unregistered) - 2007-08-09
 » Wrong

Component does support 1080p, you just need a TV that's able to recieve. But wait, since you know so much about tvs you already knew that, right?

   Re: h0mi - 2007-08-10
 » If you thought that,

you were wrong. And that isn't what MS said (about HDMI not being "neg gen"). HDMI isn't needed. It's a video connector that people want, so MS offered it on new 360s.

Re: Mister Common Sense - 2007-08-10
 » WTF?

Sony said rumble wouldn't work in the suxaxis due to the motion sensing when it was really not included due to legal issues with Immersion. So how's this any different than sony adding rumble? At least MS didn't lie about the reason it wasn't originally in the XBOX 360. It really isn't needed! People asked for it, so they modified the 360 and now you're getting it for free!

How the hell does a PS3 fantard turn this into a negative? Dumbasses.

this means more games in 1080p?? no more stupid 720p crap ported to the ps3 all because of the 360 bottleneck

core not having hdmi is their way of flushing out the old consoles out of their warehouses

now the next thing they need to do is put hd-dvd built-in the elites.... a black 360 with a bigger laptop hdd and dvd drive is not worth 500 bucks

   Re: SplittingHairs (Unregistered) - 2007-08-09
» Please shut up when you don't know the technology

"this means more games in 1080p?? no more stupid 720p crap ported to the ps3 all because of the 360 bottleneck"

What bottleneck? The 360 has been capable of 1080i since the start, and capable of 1080p since the live update LAST YEAR. If a game runs at 720p on the 360, it's due to many factors, but it has nothing to do with the ports.

There are a number of 360 games which are natively 1080p, and a minority of gamers can get them to run at 1080p using component, others using VGA, and those with the Elite via HDMI.

So what are you talking about? 720p games on the PS3 (i.e. the majority of it's games) is due to the limitations of the PS3 hardware (just like the 360), it has nothing to do with the 360.

   Re: Haha (Unregistered) - 2007-08-09
 » RE:

Re: Mister Common Sense - 2007-08-09
 » .

Some TVs support 1080p through component. I've seen it!

It depends on the manufacturer. Of course sony TVs don't so they can say you need HDMI.

   Re: Games4anyone (Unregistered) - 2007-08-09
» Actually, Component can support 1080p you idiot!

"NO! Component is 1080i! Don't be stupid, learn your technology before posting about it!"

You can buy quality component cables which can support a 1080p signal, for example;

http://www.hdtvsupply.com/coca10te2.html

Some gamers ARE able to get 1080p over component on their 360s. It depends on both the cable AND the TV, because even with high quality cables, some 1080p TVs can't go above 1080i with component.

So he IS right when he said "a minority of gamers can get them to run at 1080p using component".

So I suggest you stfu. Ok, I'll be nicer ;), you should take your own advice before calling people stupid and 'learn the technology' yourself. Please do this before coming here to challenge people and making yourself look stupid in the process! :P

 » good job

I think this is great.

Microsoft's consoles keep getting better.
$50 price cut, 3 year warranty, new chips coming, now HDMI on the premium. Constant flow of great games.

Playstation 3 you get less for the same, no more hardware backward compatibility, still no rumble, no lasting price cut, no decent games until mid 2008.

Come on sony, if you want to win you have to try harder.

   Re: beej (Unregistered) - 2007-08-09
 » youre a joker

Keeps getting better? Of course it is. They released a half ass project and screwed over millions of customers. I love the $50 price cut comment... thats on one SKU... the others are $20 and $30...hardly worth noting. Buying the console outside of California saves me $50 in sales tax.

   Re: SplittingHairs (Unregistered) - 2007-08-09
 » Oh sure beef

"They released a half ass project and screwed over millions of customers"

Millions of 360 gamers are more than happy with their console, so how is it a 'half ass project'?

The lack of HDMI in the original 360 model doesn't make it any less a great console, so I fail to see your problem.

"Playstation 3 you get less for the same, no more hardware backward compatibility, still no rumble, no lasting price cut, no decent games until mid 2008"

As a hardcore 360 fanboy, you would think of the PS3 in this way, but to me, it's a great console. The only thing that puts me off is the price, but that will change over time (I'm not interested in Blu-ray movies, so the extra price doesn't justify the current cost of the PS3 for me).

   Re: beej (Unregistered) - 2007-08-09
 » splittinghairs

well hmmm... half assed would be designing a product that fails at an extreme rate. I wont use the 33% because I think thats a little ridiculous, but 20% sounds realistic. So, 20% of 10 mil, is...you guessed it 2 million which is the same as millions of customers. You tell me 1 person who was happy the day they saw the RROD or when the 360 scratched a disc beyond readability. You are staring facts in the face and ignoring their existence as well as their impact on the average consumer.

   Re: Games4anyone (Unregistered) - 2007-08-09
 » Really?

"well hmmm... half assed would be designing a product that fails at an extreme rate."

The failure rate is unfortunate, but these things happen, just as the DRE error and other problems on the PS2 last gen. That doesn't make the PS2 half assed, and even if you want to argue it does for the 360, there's no way customers are being 'screwed over' by Microsoft as you claim.

But as usual, gamers like you are too childish to respond to fanboys like Mister Common Sense with some common sense of your own. Instead, you take the attitude of "Oh, so you're insulting *my* console are you? Well then, I'm going to insult *your* console in return....so there!". *rolleyes*

It's part of their strategy. what's the big deal?" Well here is what I say. I Just like these companies have their strategies, I have my own: To NEVER AGAIN support any company in the launch of their product by being an early adopter. It is just not good bussiness from a consumer stand. Look at this non comprhensive facts. Early adopters: Pay higher prices for the product, receive a product full of buggs and malfunctions, get an inferior product compared to improvements done to the same product down the line, get to enjoy the product earlier. People who wait a coupke of years get: A lower price (price cuts), a system with less buggs and malfunctions (since the early adopters were the guinnea pigs, an improved product with better features, a better, wider picture of products from competitors in order to make an informed purchase, but must wait to enjoy the product. To each his own, but I'm not going to be made a chump of by these companies again. Next time, I'll wait until the terns of theri products favor me, the consumer AKA the one who PAYS.

I seen maybe 3 comments here that were not riddled with fanboyish remarks and rants from the PS3 or 360 side .... you all sound like a bunch of 13 year old sex deprived angry midgets!

Now ..... the real question we should be asking here, is ... has anyone on the boards received any of these new premiumhdmi enabled units?

If so, is it quieter? Like the eLite? Has anyone checked for the fabled extra heatsink? Anyone opened it up to see if its running the new 65nm technology?

I would really like to know about the last question there, considering this will help rid the 360s rep of the ROD. Not only that, it will make me feel safer in my next purchase of an Xbox 360 (I had to cash-in my PS30 and my game collection of both due to stipulations in my student loans I was not aware of).

And since I cannot afford an elite anytime soon, if the new premium units are better built on top of including HDMI, I think I can manage to muster up 350 bucks within the coming months, right in time for the holiday rush. I like the PS3, but a lot of the games I want to play on it are coming in 2008 ... that, and I will not have the money for another PS3 until next year LoL.

Also I seriously don't think it matter if it has an hdmi port I imagine Bill is just making sure more people can use it on there t.v. thats all.

P.S. PS3 is going to emulate ps1 and ps2 games they didn't lose the ability to not play them at all, it's just gonna take a couple of updates, until you can play ps1/ps2 classics.
